Great vidieos. One thing that puts me off this camera is there is no 3.5mm external mic jack. If I bought the camera and a Rode Go external mic which has a 3.5mm jack could I connect it to the camera via the USB using a small adaptor cable that has a 3.5mm socket one end and a USB at the other. Would this work, a video from yourself would be superb because I cannot find any information to say this would or wouldn't work.
CameraWize Photography I think you might be right but once the D3300 has sold out everywhere I think sales of the D3400 will be hit as many of these cameras are sold to budding film makers and being able to attach an external mic directly to the camera is important. I actually contacted Jessops and they have confirmed the USB is only for output so won't work as an audio input.
Ok, can you try it in another camera to see if it is damaged? If it is new and it is a SDHC card or a SDXC card then is should be ok. It would be difficult to put it in the wrong way. Sometimes I have had this problems and solve it by just gently rubbing the electrical connectors on the card it can just be a small particle of dust. so try that, try it in a different camera, and if it works in a different camera, but not in the D3400 then take it back to the shop....or by another one.
I have never been called Michael Caine before. I must be getting better! Last time i was likened to Hugh Jackman and before that Sean Bean, which is pretty good because we both come originally from Sheffield. However, he is a United supporter whereas i am a Wednesday fan. And, of course, I usually survive to the end of my films....

It might be worth mentioning that the USB cable is a USB A to USB Micro B in case someone just wants to order one at an electronic supply store.
Yes, that is a good point, thanks
Can you charge the camera when connecting to pc with USB.?
No, only through the battery charger.
Is there any way to charge my nikon camera from portable charger?

To Be honest, I don't know. If good quality sound is your priority, get the D3300. It has an external Mic socket and is very similar to the d3400.
CameraWize Photography that's what we have decided to do, it's just crazy that an updated version has no way of adding an external mic.
I think they realised that the external Mic in the D3000 series was eating into the sales of their higher range cameras...

With the usb can i configure some type of external mike dynamic?
no, there is no way to attach an external Mic to this camera.

CameraWize Photography thank you, I rubbed the card and now it works!😊
How on earth did you get Michael Caine's voice for this video? Love it.

no, you recharge the battery with the separate charger, which you get with the camera
