    Hello Mr.Brown my name is Hayward and I follow your videos on TH-cam. I am not an audiophile or a viynl jazz collector just a Jazz lover. I have a small collection of about 300 albums, 1000 cds and 200 cassettes. I'm retired on a fixed income I only by new albums about 12 a year. 90 percent of my listening is on Spotify. I use your videos to discover music I never heard. Just wanted you to know you have fans that aren't collectors. Keep telling us about this great music.

    Rollins at the Vanguard, Harold Land's The Fox and now Mal Waldron's The Quest. Three of my top 5 do-it-right-please reissue wishlist are accounted for. Now for some Walt Dickerson!

      @@jazzvinylcollector Yep. Four on New Jazz. To My Queen would be the obvious choice, but I have a special affinity for This Is.... fwiw I agree that Warm Canto is one of the loveliest things put to record, and why I am genuinely excited to see The Quest receive a good reissue.

    I'm just here to say thanks. Watch all these videos but really commenting and expressing gratitude for the first time. I fully find myself in the Jazz Novice record collector space, but watching channels and videos like yours has given me so much knowledge and such a great basis on where to start with these series and artists. I do have the VMP of Monk's Music, and you totally sold me on the Mal Waldron. Thanks again, and cheers!

    I had a copy of Groovy, and I received it from a pre order. I had to return it due to playback issues. There seemed to be a definite pitch change going on. It took a long time to get a replacement. Maybe that’s why it was removed?

    I do have both the VMP and AP’s recent repress of Monks Music so I’m good on that one. Probably passing on the Cal Tjader but I’m all in for the rest. Great video as usual, thanks Chris!

    I actually already have an original Mono copy of In Orbit that was my Dad’s. It’s a little beat up but it has my Dad’s initials on it so I can’t get rid of it. I also have the 1988 OJC copy which I think is in Stereo.
    I like the 1970’s cover of The Quest better. But it lists Eric Dolphy’s name first.
    I have a 2014 OJC copy of Monk’s Music in Stereo and has Crepsicule with Nellie on it. Not sure if that song is just in Mono or not. But it sounds good to me.
    The ones that I would get would be Blue’s Moods and maybe Latin Kick.

    I dunno Chris. Most of the original fantasy Cal Tjader, which this is one, is great. He's a pioneer in this genre. Most Tjader albums have burning moments and more mellow stuff. Even the fantastic RSD release is similar. Give it another chance!

    • @jazzvinylcollector
      @jazzvinylcollector  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      pioneer for sure, his music just hasn't traditionally spoken to me. I'm fine listening to a track here or there but just can't see myself sitting down and listening to this album in one go, so inevitably it's something i probably dont need on vinyl

    Hi Chris, I am so upset with Craft OJC. The fist 4 you mentioned I preordered in March and they where to ship 7 June. Here it is June 21 and no ship yet. Notified them twice since the 10th and they do not respond. I also ordered the Burn in Hell and a companion issue last month and got a notice that won’t ship until July 26. I am so upset. I don’t know what to do. I’ve ordered from them before and never had a problem. You’d think that they would ship preorders first. Some of these are up on Amazon. Which is very upsetting. Thanks for letting me vent. Thanks for you do for the Jazz community

    • @jazzvinylcollector
      @jazzvinylcollector  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I don’t know what to tell you but that’s not fun at all! I know sometimes if you pay for them all together, they will wait until everything is available to ship the order. So if you preorder 4, you have to wait for the last one’s release date before shipping them

    Chris - do you by chance know if for the mono pressings if Craft used a “mono” cutting head or a “ stereo” cutting head? I am not really sure how different the shape of the groove is, but I have read that most modern mono pressings are cut with a stereo cutting head. So much to learn in this hobby.

    • @jazzvinylcollector
      @jazzvinylcollector  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I’m only aware of a single company that uses a mono cutting head these days and that is Electric Recording Company. To my understanding, basically no one has used them since the mid or late 1960s

    • @jeffreysobczynski7113
      @jeffreysobczynski7113 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@jazzvinylcollector thanks - I know that many of the Classic Record mono pressings mastered by Bernie Grundman were cut using a “mono” cutting head - but what I don’t know if it truly matters (vs using a “stereo” cutting head)

  • @rc2257

    It’s hard for me to imagine the Craft will top the AP/QRP that was just repressed. I didn’t buy it because I already had the VMP issue which I’m happy with. But I picked up the other Monk OJC titles they repressed and they’re all quite great.
    So I’m anxious for the reviews of the Craft version when it comes out. As you said, the VMP is stereo and id love to get a good mono pressing with that extra track. So I’ll get to pick from the AP and Craft.
    I love that we have some really good options.
    Yes, I’m with you on The Quest. I have one of those 70s pressings with the alternate covers. It sounds really great. I’m anxious for your eventual review of the Craft when it comes out.

    • @jazzvinylcollector
      @jazzvinylcollector  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      very possible. I know sometimes Craft will remove the stock from their website strategically (As in, if other retailers are doing big discounts) so it's possible it's temporary, but it's weird that you can't even find it listed on their site at all even as a sold-out item

    The Latin Kick has had a ton of releases over the years, who knew elevator music was so popular? I assume it's from the Fantasy recording studio (the engineer is not mentioned anywhere) as it has a similar sound to the Vince Guaraldi recordings done around the same time. Hopefully this new release is mono, as I don't believe Fantasy had true stereo capability in 1956. The 1959 stereo re-release has to be one of those horrible mono repurposed to stereo attrocities. I would check for mono/stereo before buying this new LP. All of the other releases you mentioned are highly recommended.

    • @jazzvinylcollector
      @jazzvinylcollector  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes! My first jazz album ever, EVER, was Blue Mitchell’s Collision in Black, so that remains a favorite. The Thing to Do is also another favorite. If you’re looking to buy an original pressing of something that won’t break the bank, he has several on the Mainstream label as well like Vital Blue which is very underrated

    • @audiomojo2074
      @audiomojo2074 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I have most of Blue Mitchell's discography (including his recordings with Horace Silver, Lou Donaldson, John Mayall, etc.) and my favourites remain Blue Soul & Blue's Moods (the albums I play the most). There is a collection on Milestone called "A Blue Time" (2 LP set) which is great starting point and contains tracks from his Riverside period. 16 copies on Discogs starting at $11.95.

    We don't another Monk's music. WTH are they thinking, lol? BUUUT, it is in Mono and the most recent mono release was from ERC. So, I guess it makes some sense. I have the ERC and can say the drums are more present in the mono recording. I actually prefer the mono. I have the VMP stereo, too. Very nice! Happy for The Quest. I have a crappy vinyl copy from some euro distributor. Also very excited for Blue's Mood.
