Oh Coco, this brought a tear to my eye. I have an uncle who died when I was two and my family says he loved me very much. I understand you. I'm sorry about your sister. I'm sure she would have been a big fan of yours.
As much Shirley has had an impact on your life, she has also on mine. My grandmother worked for Shirley as a personal assistant for 15+ years. My mother would tell me stories about Shirley from when my mother was a child. Oh, the stories! My grandmother would later go on to be Miss Senior America in 1991, the same year as your ticket! I bought a ticket to see Patti Smith in 2013. Was looking forward to it for months as it had been over 6 years since i first saw her live. Anyway, the day came and I decided to go spend the afternoon with the love of my life before going to the concert. His sister and mother cane to visit and it was such a great day. It came time to leave for Patti and I thought "why leave? Everything us right here". So just stayed and had the best day. My partner, his sister and his mother have all now passed. The Patti Smith ticket is in my display unit as a memory if that day. X
I saw Terms of Endearment when it first came out at the theater. I liked it but didn't have a big reaction. Years later I was visiting my mother and saw it on a movie channel. I am watching and just burst out crying, hard crying, I couldn't stop. My mom comes in the room and asks what I'm crying about and I couldn't talk so I point at the TV. She says, "Well turn the GD thing off if it makes you this way". One of the best movies i've seen. She never could understand why I thought if a movie made me cry that means it's a good movie!
I'm a little too attached to these little pieces of memory! I keep all my ticket stubs (concert tickets mainly, but also theater and some movies), travel tickets and souvenirs, pictures and a ton of little things that are pretty much a time machine. To me it's really important to remind moments, who I was, the people, the laughs, the tears, the changes, what I want and what I don't... You are absolutely right about the impact people can have in our lives, specially through art. You are one of those people! Hearing your life story in one of the few interviews I found, very open and honest, gave me so much hope and inspiration in one of the many challenging times... An older friend saw it, loved it... and wanted to take me to see it, but she kept saying, "I don't think you'll like it." Needless to say, I thought it was brilliant... hilarious and touching (my favorite combination). I rewatch it every 7 or so years and it still runs me through the emotional wringer. 🎫 What a lovely little treasure you found?!

So wonderful. Quick story. My great uncle adored debbie reynolds.... His lady friend treated him to her show, they got lucky and had a front row seat... So.. My great uncle, maybe 70 years old at the time, was the only man in the front row... Debbie came down during one of her songs and sat on my uncles lap. He was in heaven. Best gift ever. My motto for role models is simple: if it feels right, and gives you greater emotional freedom, that's the road to follow. I had a similar aha moment when (in 1982?) I saw the movie "Ordinary People: with Timothy Hutton, Mary Tyler-Moore, and Donald Sutherland. That movie changed my life because it awoke in me all of my buried grief. I felt so free after a good cry, the way you know you do.
She got the Oscar for that role - another multi-talented superstar....caught her one woman show in Toronto years ago - thx for stirring my memories Coco.

I now decided to go look for some ticket stubs... and I found one from 1989 at The Rage Chicago... I went to see Grace Jones. I was under-age, but still managed to get in - and she invited me up on stage to dance with her (this was before she let people do it during "Pull Up...") I'll never forget it and she autographed my 12inch in the middle of her concert. :O =M=
