There is a similar story where someone wanted to use Hawkman, however they weren't allowed to, so they created a character named Zauriel, who is a winged angel from Heaven...when Green Arrow sees him for the first time he thinks it is Hawkman.
Miss Martian rarely shows up in the comics but on Young Justice tv show she is absolutely important to the main cast there and I can’t imagine the show without her at this point
I couldn’t agree more. For me personally M’gann is my absolute favourite character, closely followed by possible Artemus and I couldn’t imagine the story without her. I still need to get on and watch season 3 and 4 to see where things go, as I have only just now started watching Young Justice for the first time (27yo here so quite late to the party, but glad to finally join in), but I can’t imagine my position on her changing very much.
Greg Weisman (writer and creator of the Young Justice cartoon) deserves huge credit for making Miss Martian a three dimensional character on Young Justice and I'm glad they fleshed out her backstory a bit more on the show.
seriously. young justice may be scattered at times, but the way it always keeps track of miss martian, dick, and aqualad on their journey from young inexperienced heroes to mentors and pillars of the superhero community makes it one of my favorite pieces of superhero media ever. it allows its characters to truly move forward instead of constantly bringing them back to square one and for a character like miss martian who really needs that level of character work it does so much to make her so human.
Oh I couldn’t agree more. I didn’t really know much about her at all before first watching Young Justice for the first time ever two weeks ago, but now that I have finished the first two series (I STILL need to read some of the comic book series and then get on with season 3 and 4), she‘s probably my top favourite character. Her abilities at such an incredible level that really warrant her existence ‘a lot sooner’, as well as her very interesting and surprisingly impactful back story, and her relationship with the other characters (not going to spoil who in particular for those who haven’t watched the series yet) really make her soo intriguing and shippable to me, and I think many others relate. I just feel so ashamed that I hadn’t watched this story until now. 10+ years late to the party, but it looks like it is still going strong in fandom and notoriety and glad now to be a part of it.😁❤️
Megann has been my fav since YJ. Seeing her history before that makes me interested in her even more. I also like the part where she wanted to see if the falling villain could be redeemed before she saved him. She came off as a sweet psycho. I love it.
The was something I loved about the wedding on Mars arc of YJ. Her mom recognized that her original white martian appearance seemed fake in comparison to her more humanized version of a white martian. That really hit home with me.
If I had a nickel for every time miss martian was used because of complications with another character, I'd have two nickels. Which isn't a lot but it's weird that it's happened twice
It's ironic that Martian Manhunter was created as a stand in for Superman in the JLA, as DC was worried the latter was getting to much exposure in top many titles, and Miss Martian waa a stand in for Supergirl. I am surprised they didn't use Power Girl instead of creating another character.
They probably wanted a character that could align more with certain supergirl traits that didn't fit with power girl since they're so different. Also, I didn't know Martian Manhunter was a stand-in for Superman--that's really interesting!
Young Justice was really the best, or at least most concise version of the character. I love the story arc of her getting too comfortable using her mental powers to the point she started having no moral qualms frying the brains of people who she felt deserved it. Sure, Psimon was an asshole and you could argue he deserved it (even though he eventually got better and arguably become even more dangerous), but I love when she uses her powers to rip apart Aqualad's brain when he was undercover trying to take down his father, Black Manta. It was an emotional way for Miss Martian to realize her powers could really hurt people, and I loved how her, Artemis, and Aqualad all ended up becoming close brain buddies in order to get out of that jam. Young Justice was really her best ... era. ;)
Agreed! The only real issue I had with her story line was that only Superboy seemed to have a problem with her lobotomizing people. I felt that at the very least Superman would said something.
@@ProjektTaku | I agree. I'm glad they were willing to go a little darker and let such a lovable character's morality become so muddled. Though I guess Young Justice was always a little dark.
@@obi_oma yeah, it was fairly interesting. Although I am disappointed that we didn't actually see her tamper with superboy's memories. Maybe a tie in animated movie set between season 1 and 2 could've cleared some things up.
Each version of Miss Martian really became their own version, especially Young Justice's, who has a different dynamic since she's not a sole survivor of her race, appeared before YJ Kara, and is romantically tied to Superboy (Plus with use if time jumps, we see her grow to leadership role) Supergirl's is more comic based, but way more serious. DCAU's kinda... Makes no sense lore wise, but okay, new stuff happened. DC Superhero Girls is, um, I have no clue, not that serious I guess.
The YJ version is by far my favorite, but of course it has the advantage of having ended. It was good, and will always be so because there's no danger of some future creative team pissing all over its legacy to feed their own vanity with ill-considered "re-imaginings" and careless retcons, nor can the show be ruined by editorial (or marketing department) mandates to participate in crossover events and daft reboots. The longer I live to compare the two, the more I'm struck by how much Western comics hurt themselves with their endless creative team rotations and corporate meddling with story direction. The manga business has many flaws of its own, but there's a lot to be said for (mostly) keeping one main creator in charge of a book for its lifetime and letting it end when they're done telling the story they wanted to tell.
@Rich McGee I think you can gave different creative teams as long as you have strong editorial who malkes you stick to cannon and accurate characterization. Unfortunately, at the moment Marvel and DC don't have that. But they do have corporate overlords.
I'm honestly surprised there were people who thought Ms. Martian was an OC. I know there are people who thought Artemis was one, even though she's a comic book character. Kaldur'ahm definitely fits the bill, though. Speaking of, it would be cool to see a video about him and how he diverged between the Young Justice and comic book version. It's quite interesting.
Artemis was historically a villain until the New 52 and her lineage is mostly the same, so I love how YJ reworks it into an important part of her character arc.
I remember back in high school seeing Young Justice for the first time, and I really grew to like M'gann a lot. Her quirky and bubbly personality had a certain charm on the team. And even though she got a lot more serious in future seasons, I did enjoy that inner turmoil she had, it made her feel like a fleshed out character. Also, one of the verbal tics I have is basically saying her "Hello Megan!" phrase whenever I space out on something (though obviously changing it to "Hello Jenny!" rather than saying her name)
I'd argue that replacement characters such as Miss Martian are useful for avoiding too many retcons of an established character. In suprhero adventures, similar or identical backstories do not detract from storytelling; instead they are a shorthand to highlight the differences. And the new kid plot requires constant replacements.
There is a similar story where someone wanted to use Hawkman, however they weren't allowed to, so they created a character named Zauriel, who is a winged angel from Heaven...when Green Arrow sees him for the first time he thinks it is Hawkman.
That was on Grant Morrison's JLA run. It seems to happen with him a lot. He wanted to use Colossus in New Xmen but was denied so he gave Emma Frost her diamond skin.
@@Superlad945 you know what? I do believe you are correct, it probably was Aquaman, not Green Arrow. ...they both are male superheroes who have Caucasian skin, blond hair, and a green super suit, and are members of the Justice League... however that is probably, I said probably, where their similarities end. ...oh, and like most DC heroes, they have both died and come back to life.
The Young Justice depiction of Miss Martian stands next to my favorite superheroes ever made and her relationship with Conor will be one of my most treasured things to ever come out of the comic book medium.
I've always thought that Miss Martian was reminiscent of Supergirl but I had no idea she was actually made to replace her in a story. That's really interesting and I'm glad they went with her. Miss Martian was always my favorite of the Young Justice characters though it was hard to pick since they're all so great. Great video!
I liked Ms.Martian ever since I first saw her in a random comic I picked up on a whim. I felt she had a lot of potential and that the White Martian aspect gave her some differentiation from J'onn. I also thought she seemed like the kind of character that would track well with non-comic audiences if she was ever adapted (that turned out pretty well) since she was so uncomplicated and had an easy to understand personality.
I really like Ms Martian. My first experience of her was on the show and I thought she was really cool and charming there. I'm glad it seems that she's gonna be sticking around the universe in some capacity. Not as a central figure, but as someone who's there doing stuff now and then.
I remember reading online that Geoff Johns had actually written a letter that was published suggesting he thought the human half of superboy was Lex Luther. Years later he wrote the character he took the opportunity the make the retcon. I think it is an improvement.
Cool! I didn't know Miss Martian was supposed be Supergirl, a similar thing happened when marvel created the animated series Spider Man and his Amazing Friends animated series; Firestar was created because they couldn't use the Human Torch due to rights issues.
I love Miss Martian. Also I think this era of pre New 52 DC (from about 2001 to N 52) is still my favorite era of DC. The JSA, Secret Six, Manhunter, Birds of Prey and Titans runs were all so great. I mean, this era even made me a fan of Hawkman! Something I'd never believed remotely possible. I thought Superboy's two dads reveal was pretty brilliant as well. I remember liking Miss M's appearances back then. She has a great look. But she didn't get enough coverage.
Yknow with all the intrigue over Character's Canonicity and intentional existence (like in a certain new movie i'm gonna avoid spoiling), I'm starting to really dig the trope of 'Was I supposed to be here?'
As far as comics go? The answer is always no 😂. Looking at Across the Spiderverse they could do some amazing existential crisis and/or imposter syndrome storylines with virtually every character. Pretty much all were made by accident or by copying another popular character. The ones that did stick on purpose have still be through a ton of changes. Like imagine a Jessica Drew Spiderwoman movie where she comes to gripes with her like 20 different origin stories all in the SAME continuity. Or Wally dealing with the fact he got shafted and all his accomplishments handed over to Barry because DC hates legacy characters (and can’t decide who actually are legacy characters considering how long Barry was dead and Wally the flash). Or just Peter getting traumatized over his entire life being constantly screwed over because of some sick game played by editorial and random writers just to sell more books. … Actually they should really just make a full on horror animated adaptation of deadpool killing the marvel universe. Him realizing their entire reality is just a puppet show controlled by marvel to make money and entertain us (the audience) would make for a really surreal horror movie in theaters.
@@vullord666 the fact that wally was still considered a legacy character to dc after having a perfect mantle pass and being flash for like 30 years is the craziest thing I've ever heard.
@@Superlad945 yes, but nobody treats barry or hal as legacy characters. In the new 52 when dc basically removed all their legacy characters they still kept barry and hal as the flash and green lantern.
@@Superlad945 yeah, probably their biggest mistake, since it didn't fully please the old fans or the new fans just getting it. And it just got worse with n52 superman dying, being replaced with pre-n52 superman, then for some reason them both merging in rebirth superman. And superboy was equally as bad, with n52 superboy being overcomplicated, replaced by pre-n52 superboy with him dying first and now pre-n52 is also forgotten by everyone in the n52 universe.
I prefer Johns' approach to the gap year to the others' so far. He planted small seeds and grew them over time. Took full advantage of the opportunities the gap provided without becoming jarring. I wish this was the norm.
he wrote infinite crisis and co-wrote 52, so he got to lead in to the gap year and fill it in as well as dealing with the aftermath. he was partly behind the whole thing, so it makes sense that he got some use out of it
This isnt exactly editorial interference, but Marvel's 2099 line dramatically collapsed in 1996. The line had a fairly tight creative team, but editor Joey Cavalieri was fired during 90s budget cuts. So Peter David and several others quit in protest. The 2099 books had to quickly get patched up by a last minute staff, and existing plans to bump the books to the year 2101 were nixed. At least Peter David wrapped up his remaining Spider-Man 2099 plans in his Marvel Now reboot of the book, and also in his early 2000s Captain Marvel run.
The history of the Teen Titans and Young Justice and how tangled that web is for all the characters, is not something I was ever aware of. I really fell in love both the Teen Titans and Justice League cartoons. I didn’t get into related comics until the DCU app/service and even then I only read sparse Young Justice and 2000s TT comics. Really interesting how its all worked out. Namely how both shows have been affected by them and how both affected characterization in comics (like on top of supergirl I see a lot of TT cartoon Starfire in early Miss Martian). Miss Martian has become a staple for me due to Young Justice. God its a weird feeling after Across the Spiderverse, but I’m starting to get the feeling every character and staple event was just a “mistake” or some type of weird editorial thing that got lucky. I mean even popular OG characters like Superman and Batman are MASSIVELY different from their golden age counterparts and have been majorly influenced by their adaptations.
Also, it's pretty funny that Miss Martian started out a Supergirl substitute considering she was a main character in Young Justice, yet Supergirl didn't even appear until the last scene of season 4, setting her up for a season 5.
My first comic book introduction to the character was the Rebirth Titans comic where she joined later along with Steel II (Natasha Irons). It was a kind of a weird in-between book after the original team disbanded when it was revealed that Donna Troy was a combat machine built by the Amazons to spar with Diana.
Like most people my first experience to Miss Martian was the Young Justice show but she quickly became one of my favorite characters add a relationship with the Superboy is probably one of the best ones I've ever seen between superheroes
Man I'm so glad you did a video on M'gann, shes always been a fun character for me and the YJ show definitely cemented my love for her and J'onn. It's really disappointing how little content any of the Martians (and Saturnians, shout out to Jemm) get from DC and the Fans. Trying to find fan content for these guys that isnt for the YJ show or JL/JLU shows is so hard! This video is a cactus full of water in a desert for fans like me
Is nuts how important and well written she is in the TV series Young Justice, especially compared to the comics. In hindsight now that the show is done, Super Boy and Miss Martian ended up being the main characters of that series. That ending was perfect.
The story arc Miss Martian has on S2 of Young Justice is imo one of the most fascinating in animated media. We have this character who was interesting in the first season but kind of unimpressive compared to the rest of the cast and suddenly, after a timeskip, she’s this ruthless powerful telepath that basically has a body count. They raise so many ethical questions with her characterization and her powerset, it’s genuinely one of the most interesting way to adapt a superhero I’ve seen. It also ended up making Superboy much more complex and interesting by proxy as he goes from being her strongest relationship on the show to the mouthpiece against this ethical question structured around her. YJ is kind of a mess of a show in how much it lacks focus but the themes tackled on the show are just so so interesting, especially for a children’s show that is often heavily sanitized by higher ups.
Thanks for the dive on the character. I find Ms. M interesting in a character dynamic fashion. in YJ, one her own she'd be a little grating. Like how Teen Titans kinda infantalized Starfire. But her dynamic with Conner and Wally really brings a lot out of her. With Megan being initially innocent and Wally being NOT that. Conner flying off the handle easily and Megan being closest to a baby panda (something absolutely unkickable). I think that Triad allowed her to stand out more than the girls on Teen Titans.
I’m sorry but her introduction of just clearly intending to catch this man but either doing it as a polite or ballsy threat while she’s genuinely just being so sweet in her mannerism naturally. It absolutely hilarious. I would’ve enjoyed a scene like this in the series.
I remember when a friend introduced me to Young Justice and I wasn't too up to date on comics lore (like the fact that Young Justice itself was team that had been around for over a decade when the first season debuted) and so I looked up who some of the members were. Weirdly enough, Miss Martian sounded familiar to me and to this day I don't know where I had heard of her first. My friend had me start watching Young Justice in 2014, so it is entirely possible I had heard about her through some kind of cultural osmosis, because it sure seems like she didn't have as much to do when Jones was writing her compared to what she's turned into thanks to YJ and Supergirl. As far as how she was created, I guess when an exec tells you the Batman rule applies to a character you had your eye on, sometimes it can lead to a good thing? Well, eventually, after the shitshow that has been the DCEU, I am not prepared to hand anything to either Geoff Jones or DC execs
i was first introduced to miss martian via the young justice show, and eventually ended up going back and reading some of the comics where she first showed up. I was really shocked by how much sooner the white martian reveal happens in the comics!
I loved Ms. Martian in the post-no justice titans, it was my first exposure to her in the comics. I'm excited to read more about her, and i hope they do more with her in a leaderly position. It really suited her (sorry Dick) This whole situation reminded me of how James Tynion IV created new characters for Batman in part due to the editorial restrictions in the characters. That's one of the reasons his "OCs" are so similar to pre-existing characters (the other is for thematic reasons), because he could do more with new characters that he couldn't do with Bruce, Harley, etc. And it led to characters I love, like Ghost-maker. I agree that necessity is the mother of invention. A lot of cool stories come from writers working against restraints
You make for a ravishing redhead and it truly sets the tone as you discuss Miss Martian. I have to admit I genuinely like Miss Martian primarily from the Young Justice animated series. Now that you bring it up, I can see how she would make for a Supergirl analog. I think that this was a wise editorial choice since the depiction of Supergirl at this time in comics has come to be one of the most definitive and endearing arcs of the character. I would love to see a story that allows for Supergirl, Miss Martian, Mary Marvel, Arrowette, Wondergirl, and Batgirl to join forces and play off of each other as the teenage girl counterpart of an established DC hero. They could represent the youthful idealism of their male counterpart, while still showing their own distinctive approach to problem solving and crimefighting that would allow them to step out of the shadows of the primary heroes and be a good jumping-on point for newer readers to be initiated into the larger DC Universe.
Dating myself again, but my first Supergirl was Matrix... I guess, for me, the big change is Jon not being the last Martian anymore. Echoes the ever-expanding Super-family.
*Sasha:* Miss Martian isn't the first character to be associated with the Martian Manhunter John Jones. *Me:* Yeah, there's Zook. *Sasha:* Never forget Tom Jones. *Me:* Wait, what?
In the Supergirl TV show, her and J'onn are love interests, so obviously they took inspiration from Supergirl’s One Year Later storyline lol I like M'gann in the comics and young justice’s early seasons… Before she really start abusing her psychic powers on people
I actually own one of the issues of Martian Manhunter where he fights with Tom Jones. It was super weird to read when I picked it up. "But wasn't John the only martian?"
I liked how many times sash said era. It showed me how far I’ve come in my comic knowledge. Because each “Era” I had a general knowledge or what she was or could be referring to. Mostly because of her channel. In part from childhood experiences. Like I was hooked on that TT series despite not reading marvel comics
I like Miss Martian, and I didn't know this was how she came to be. So it was a rather serenditipous event. Seeing those covers does remind of Kid Devil. HIs hopeless crush on Bombshell. The fact that he actually had arch nemesis in the shape of Kid Crusader, even though nobody else had ever heard of him. And those panels of him in the rocket he was piloting to save the day by sacrificing himself, as he says Titans Together before it blows. He made an impression.
Never got to see much of Young Justice beyond season 1 but Me'gann was pretty good there and happy that she was created to give us a different dynamic. (oh and funny you mention the "lead-in" since I am a Linkara fan and with him a huge fan of the previous era (Techis Imperative/Titans...and sadly Graduation Day being a hated story for what it did to Omen and Donna Troy), it was neat finally seeing how Johns moved things forwards with stuff like Me'gann and the Superboy retcon)
I loved miss Martian in young justice then when I started reading titans it really threw me because they were so different. But over time I've come to love the comic version aswell
I think my favorite Miss Martian stuff came later on during the Sean McKeever Teen Titans run. There was a good mixture of her being terrified of becoming her Titans Tomorrow version. Also *One Year Later is mentioned again* The horror. The absolute horror of Robin OYL. ....
I am one who really liked Geoff Johns Titans. The biggest issue I had with Young Justice was Peter David was trying too damn hard to be “witty” and “funny” He really did some great things with Martian Manhunter…as well as a very solid friendship for Tim, Cassie, Connor and Bart. The elders, Cyborg,Beast Boy, Raven and Starfire had some great work as well.
Enjoyed Miss Martian and early YJ. I didn't realize she was a relatively new character to DC. Had I known of Stargirl... I'd have thought Martian would have been an earlier or same "Era" creation.
I assumed miss Martian was from the comics but I got a feeling to myself that they did things differently but still interesting like the hailed TT series. She reminded me of starfire but still her own character. She was a bit more grounded too.
I remember when she first appeared in Teen Titans I just kind of rolled my eyeballs and thought "Oh, come ON!"... but I have to admit that Geoff Johns really struck gold with Miss Martian. Not so much with some of those other "out of the blue" kid legacies like Zachary Zatara or Kid Devil.
miss martian is one of the few popular characters i can confidently say "i was there reading comics the day she premiered and was born into this world" so when ppl say she was invented for young justice i can "well ACTUALLY" them into the ground. idk why that makes me giddy. i never bore witness to the creation of any other character :)
Miss Martian was essentially the stand in for Supergirl just like Martiaan Manhunter was the stand in for Superman in the early JLA stories. She is probable my favorite new character from that era. It's funny how she never got any kind of stand alone series or even like a back up. What ever happened to her post Flashpoint? Does she even still exist or is she off in character limbo?
Would Titans have been good with Supergirl? Yeah probably but I really liked that version of the Legion and found it funny that (for a part?) Supergirl thought her time travel adventure was just a dream.
I totally understood the reference to supergirl. When I saw Megan in her costume I just kept getting her energy despite only just seeing pictures of comic supergirl
She reminds me of Starfire from the cartoon show too. The innocent not quite understanding social cues. Eventually she'll grow up and they'll have to create a new teen innocent character to take her place on teams.
I like the storyline when she impersonated Star-Spangled Kid as part of the Terror Titans. Misfit from BOP also participated in these gladiator fights as well.
It's weird how she appeared on two unrelated TV shows more then the comics over the last ten years I feel like seem to happen to alot of chrachters these days.
How about the creation of the Vision....... Roy Thomas wanted to bring back Timley comics alien character Aarkus from the Silver Age, but Lee mandated that he wanted an android character, hence they combined into Vision who has endured in the Avengers and Marvel as much as any character from the late 60s he was created in 68)
Miss Martians origins are crazy, she was both a Stand in for Supergirl AND the Cartoon version of Starfire (since they wanted a character with a similar personality) at once... and Johns named her after the wife of one of his friends (who has like a mini art book of the character).
I like Miss Martian, nowhere near J'onn but she's fine & YJ did a great job with her also I wish DC did more with her & J'onn teaming up also now I'm intrigued with Tom J'onzz but let's not forget Zook & Jemm Son of Saturn
To someone who barely knows the DC universe, watching Young Justice made me really discover Miss Martian ( unlike Supergirl, in which she could have been absent, the show would have mostly been the same ), while giving her very interesting plotlines ( especially on the side of the ethics of telepathy ), and made her feel very different from Supergirl from the get go. I really like this part of the character...
I wish she was a bigger presence in the comics. But also, I remember when she showed up, she was kind of a breath of fresh air since DC had no idea what to do with the actual Supergirl at the time. It was frustrating when new writers came in and gave Kara a different personality in every changeover.
I like M’gann. She’s a good character. I never heard of her until Young Justice cartoon. And didn’t know she was a knock off of Supergirl until now. But I think she’s evolved beyond that now. And please please do a video on Ton Jones Martian! 😂
I'm only really familiar with Ms Martian from the Young Justice animated series. She's actually my favorite of that group. About the only thing that I felt was off with her character is how inconsistent the writers were about her naivety... One moment she'd be razor sharp about obscure social concepts, but the next completely clueless about things even the most unaware would be wise to. Still, overall, I think she was the right choice. Using Supergirl would just have made the team yet ANOTHER Justice League rewrite.
I think Supergirl should have been on the original Teen Titans instead of Wonder Girl, seeing as Donna was there due to a clerical error and didn't have a proper origin yet.
Except that Kara Zor-El Supergirl was in college by the time the Teen Titans made their debut in 1964. Although, I wouldn’t mode if Supergirl spend time with the Titans and team up every once in a while since the Silver and Bronze Ages.
Most interesting case of editorial interference you've heard of?
There is a similar story where someone wanted to use Hawkman, however they weren't allowed to, so they created a character named Zauriel, who is a winged angel from Heaven...when Green Arrow sees him for the first time he thinks it is Hawkman.
...how about all the Superman rip offs? Captain Marvel (DC) for starters?
Cant let this go by without the obligatory mention of Jim Shooter and how he sort of accidentally mandated the Dark Phoenix storyline.

@@obi_oma that's a good point, Powergirl got a whole different personality than Supergirl also if I remember right MMH was a stand in for Batman too
Young Justice was really the best, or at least most concise version of the character.
Young Justice was really her best ... era. ;)
agreed! Seasons 1 and 2 were so different yet so good and I love how each handled Miss Martian's character.
season 2 had such a logical evolution from season 1 without just repeating the same character arc she had in the first.
Artemis barely appear in the comics so they aren't that far off
Wait, Artemis isn't an OC?
I catch myself thinking "Hello Megan" a lot too lol
Martian Manhunter👿🐉🌑is Batman👿🦇🌑 and Miss Martian🐉🖤❤🌑is Batgirl🦇🖤💛🌑
I liked Ms.Martian ever since I first saw her in a random comic I picked up on a whim. I felt she had a lot of potential and that the White Martian aspect gave her some differentiation from J'onn. I also thought she seemed like the kind of character that would track well with non-comic audiences if she was ever adapted (that turned out pretty well) since she was so uncomplicated and had an easy to understand personality.
This is the Casually Comics ERA.
And yet she joined the avengers before spidey did. That's gotta hurt.
Did Marvel ever do 2101? That sounds really cool to change over for the millennium change.
@@vullord666 Peter David's 2015 series ended with the calendar finally rolling over to 2100.
The idea that Connor is half Luthor half Kent I love, specially because Young Justice used it to perfection with his character arc.
This video is a cactus full of water in a desert for fans like me
Manhunter: "This is my cousin Tom Jones!"
Tom: "Salutations Earthlings."
T’omm J’onzz (or Tom Jones) is Martian Manhunter’s little brother, not his cousin.

Is nuts how important and well written she is in the TV series Young Justice, especially compared to the comics. In hindsight now that the show is done, Super Boy and Miss Martian ended up being the main characters of that series. That ending was perfect.
Note Sasha's intentional red wig on this one.
I'd have LoL'd if she'd ran a green filter over herself in this one.
I wish DC would hire you as an editor... you really fixed that batgirl team up series; easily, in my opinion
She was honestly past my time but I can see she has merit as a character.
"Miss Martian"?
"It has been a while since I've seen J'onn J'onzz".
"Never mind".
I’m sorry but her introduction of just clearly intending to catch this man but either doing it as a polite or ballsy threat while she’s genuinely just being so sweet in her mannerism naturally. It absolutely hilarious. I would’ve enjoyed a scene like this in the series.
Remember when DC was concerned having a character appear in two comics/shows would be confusing?
It really suited her (sorry Dick)
This whole situation reminded me of how James Tynion IV created new characters for Batman in part due to the editorial restrictions in the characters.
I just started watching young justice this weekend, thanks Sasha for covering Miss Martian!!
*Sasha:* Miss Martian isn't the first character to be associated with the Martian Manhunter John Jones.
*Me:* Yeah, there's Zook.
*Sasha:* Never forget Tom Jones.
*Me:* Wait, what?
In the Supergirl TV show, her and J'onn are love interests, so obviously they took inspiration from Supergirl’s One Year Later storyline lol
I like M'gann in the comics and young justice’s early seasons… Before she really start abusing her psychic powers on people
I loved her in Young Justice.😊
Me too 😎😎
I actually own one of the issues of Martian Manhunter where he fights with Tom Jones. It was super weird to read when I picked it up. "But wasn't John the only martian?"
How often is Superman called "The Last Son of Krypton" but Zod is still running around?
I liked how many times sash said era. It showed me how far I’ve come in my comic knowledge. Because each “Era” I had a general knowledge or what she was or could be referring to. Mostly because of her channel. In part from childhood experiences. Like I was hooked on that TT series despite not reading marvel comics
Funny I pitched Miss Martian should’ve been Kara’s sidekick on the supergirl show similar to Roy or Wally. Missed opportunity
This is extra funny when you remember Supergirl ended up on the team anyway once Johns had left the book
(oh and funny you mention the "lead-in" since I am a Linkara fan and with him a huge fan of the previous era (Techis Imperative/Titans...and sadly Graduation Day being a hated story for what it did to Omen and Donna Troy), it was neat finally seeing how Johns moved things forwards with stuff like Me'gann and the Superboy retcon)
many writers need to do this instead of slapping their own character onto another.
The biggest issue I had with Young Justice was Peter David was trying too damn hard to be “witty” and “funny”
He really did some great things with Martian Manhunter…as well as a very solid friendship for Tim, Cassie, Connor and Bart. The elders, Cyborg,Beast Boy, Raven and Starfire had some great work as well.
I'm reading this run currently
It's worse than you remember and every panel makes me remember why I hate Geoff Johns' every choice and instinct.
Enjoyed Miss Martian and early YJ. I didn't realize she was a relatively new character to DC. Had I known of Stargirl... I'd have thought Martian would have been an earlier or same "Era" creation.
I first saw her from Young Justice, and love the character. She is my favorite from the show.
Speaking of Miss Martian, a video about Ma’alefa’ak would be great! If you haven’t done one already, that is
I assumed miss Martian was from the comics but I got a feeling to myself that they did things differently but still interesting like the hailed TT series. She reminded me of starfire but still her own character. She was a bit more grounded too.
I love miss Martian definitely my fav character in yj
Miss Martian appears to take early Starfire's naïveté and crank it up to 11. Let's hope she doesn't actually read Raven's mind on a bad day.
geoff johns' runs seem to be the favourites of people who started there, while older fans are harder on them. new 52 jl is the same way
I remember when she first appeared in Teen Titans I just kind of rolled my eyeballs and thought "Oh, come ON!"... but I have to admit that Geoff Johns really struck gold with Miss Martian. Not so much with some of those other "out of the blue" kid legacies like Zachary Zatara or Kid Devil.
I enjoy Miss Martian and wish they would a give her a solo book, at least a mini.
miss martian is one of the few popular characters i can confidently say "i was there reading comics the day she premiered and was born into this world" so when ppl say she was invented for young justice i can "well ACTUALLY" them into the ground. idk why that makes me giddy. i never bore witness to the creation of any other character :)
And there’s Darkfire, the Superdude who is not actually a Superboy who is identical to Nightwing with a Martian Stealth Suit.
I enjoy Miss Martian. I generally have a soft spot of telepaths. Especially when they decide "hey i have these powers, why not?"
I love M'gann M'orzz. Thanks for sharing this
She reminds me of Starfire from the cartoon show too. The innocent not quite understanding social cues. Eventually she'll grow up and they'll have to create a new teen innocent character to take her place on teams.
Well, since Martian Manhunter was an intended Superman rip-off, his neice Miss Martian would be the logical choice for a rip-off of Supergirl.
Roy Thomas wanted to bring back Timley comics alien character Aarkus from the Silver Age, but Lee mandated that he wanted an android character, hence they combined into Vision who has endured in the Avengers and Marvel as much as any character from the late 60s he was created in 68)
Miss Martian is great, YJ did a amazing job developing her. And i always thought that Supergirl should be a classic titan.
Miss Martians origins are crazy, she was both a Stand in for Supergirl AND the Cartoon version of Starfire (since they wanted a character with a similar personality) at once... and Johns named her after the wife of one of his friends (who has like a mini art book of the character).
"Put things on the same wayback , people!" 😂🤣 Oh, Sasha! I love your sense of humor!
I like Miss Martian, nowhere near J'onn but she's fine & YJ did a great job with her also I wish DC did more with her & J'onn teaming up also now I'm intrigued with Tom J'onzz but let's not forget Zook & Jemm Son of Saturn
10:18 Season 4 really nailed her design, especially after the horror that was season 3
Title is sounding a little too Miguel O’hara, Sasha.
Hope that was intentional.

"Necessity is the mother of strange bedfellows" -- G'eff J'onnz, I think??
I appreciate the sensual artwork used as visual aid
I think Supergirl should have been on the original Teen Titans instead of Wonder Girl, seeing as Donna was there due to a clerical error and didn't have a proper origin yet.
Or just put both of them so whoever stays wouldn't be the only girl on the team maybe that way the writers wouldn't make Donna date the whole team.
@@Gabe600 That would have been pretty progressive for the time. More than one female member and they’re both the powerhouses.
Except that Kara Zor-El Supergirl was in college by the time the Teen Titans made their debut in 1964. Although, I wouldn’t mode if Supergirl spend time with the Titans and team up every once in a while since the Silver and Bronze Ages.
@@Gabe600 Yeah sure, start the team off with Supergirl, then show Donna's origin and have her join later. I'm down.

The fact that they changed Supergirl from the cw, the teenage Kara would’ve been interesting to see too.
Everytime I see White Martians it always reminds me of my favourite random dc comic I found randomly Son of Vulcan
As someone who love Miss Martian in that show i was so disappointed she doesn't get much in the comics
