A few months back Shannon approached me to ask if I would shave her hair off for the "Little Princess Trust" which is a "Children's Cancer Charity"
Shannon explained that she has already raised around £3000 from her friends and family and just needed a hairdresser to shave her hair.
Shannon needed to keep her hair intact so she could donate it all in order for the charity to make a wig from it for children.
This meant I could not just shave her hair completely off, I would first need to section Shannon's hair into four parts, place a covered band around each ponytail and cut under each covered band.
I would then shave her hair with clippers.
To take it even shorter I would then use a razor to shave the hair completely.
For support Shannon invited her friends and family to watch the whole process.
Shannon was extremely brave considering her hair was very long to start with!
To tell you a little about the charity; As part of the little Princess Trust, they provide real hair wigs, free of charge to boys and girls across the UK and Ireland that have lost their hair own hair through cancer treatment.
As a result of treatment for cancer, most children will suffer hair loss as a side effect. Some boys and girls cope remarkably well but for others this can be very upsetting.
They work with specialist suppliers and experienced hairdressers who offer wigs tailored to the individual child's needs to give the most realistic look and feel, as close as possible to their original hair. However, in addition they assist children with other conditions which also result in hair loss, the most common being alopecia.
Despite being set up to help children with cancer the trust is able to supply children that do not have a cancer diagnosis with a single wig. Whilst they are unable to commit to supplying more than one wig, they hope that this gesture will help the child and family whilst they decide on their long term plans for dealing with this condition.
For example; Emily is one of the thousands of children helped by the Little Princess Trust. Emily developed alopecia at the age of two and her life was transformed by the real hair wig provided by the Little Princess Trust.
