This episode does do a good job of portraying both sides we see of Rose, both the curious and caring gem, and the reckless and self-serving diamond. Neither are a lie, but neither are the full truth either. For the most part, I'm not really a defender of SU, but I often see detractors of the show point out how awful Rose was as if that wasn't the entire point. To me, she seems to be the embodiment of actual innocence, as in doing both good and bad interchangeably, without thought or really awareness of others.
Until she does and spends decades not knowing what to do or daring to do anything about the consequences.
That's why I love this show and Rose as a character, (almost) any interpretation of Rose fits with her character. As much as I hate the idea of "Rose was character assassinated" or "Rose is a bad person" I can see where this interpretation came from and even if I don't agree with it at all I can still understand how they got to that view.

And i think that her kindness was self serving in a way which links the two identities together. Rose started a war because she was self serving at first but she came to understand the struggle of others when she was one of the foot soldiers and then later the smaller life forms living their own little lives on earth, she did it wanted to be apart of something else and experience more for herself, but she also did it because she learnt more compassion along the way from her experiences
No she embodies the flaws of Homeworld’s system and ideology

my personal theory is that it's a mix of both
it's not actually her, but it is also partially made up of what is left of her within Steven's gem
rose is gone gone, that is undeniable, but aspects of her such as her shield and her various abilities remain, so who isn't to say there isn't some impression of her left somewhere within the gem? definitely not a conscious being, but maybe something that allowed the room to create something a lot more lifelike
@@thestargazer679 That could be applied to the residual impact Rose made to the gems, and homeworld. Both have been pretty much changed forever because of her actions.

I think rose quartz being inside him can easily be debunked. When the White Diamond pulled the gem out of his belly, the gem side screamed that "she was gone!"
This episode for me sits in an interesting arc. This arc to me feels like an arc where the gems are trying to help Steven discover his past.
It always seemed weird to me that Greg and the gems just so happen to show up for Steven at the end just when he needs them. SU is well written and everything that happens seems very deliberate and well placed, so in my mind the 4 were waiting for Steven, and didn't just happen to show up when he needed them.
Perhaps Garnet foresaw this in her future vision, but what I think is more likely personally is that Garnett knew thanks to Future Vision that Steven would enter the room and confront Rose, and that this was necessary in order for him to start healing and truly prepare for the final confrontation with the Diamonds.
In my mind that's why all 4 happen to show up with pizza at the end, because they intentionally gave Steven space to explore his thoughts and feelings, and were there for him when he was having trouble processing them, aware that there was nothing they could say or do to help him, that he needed to confront Rose in the room.

I feel the real Rose is speaking to Steven at the end.
I feel the room has some sort of memory of what she was like
I think there is a conscious Rose/Pink Diamond within Steven's gem, given that the gem remembers those forms (Change Your Mind). She's just not in control anymore because the latest version of the Pink Diamond Gem is Steven. We know from A Single Pale Rose that these past versions can still be active within the gem itself and can interact with anything that's within the gem, including things from the outside world that have made their way inside.
Pink has likely reached out at least twice to Steven with her memories, On the Jungle Moon and on the moon base. The first time was providing a means to communicate with Lars, the second was to motivate him to ask pearl about her fake shattering. A possible third instance was in the tower on Homeworld to show Steven that the diamonds were exactly the same, though that could also be White's interference.
I think it's possible that she did speak to him while in the room, but we don't know for sure.
I still believe the real Rose/Pink Diamond is speaking to him at the end of the episode. Like they finally connect although briefly and wished they had done more of that in the series.

I always wonder, WHY ARENT PERIDOT AND LAPIS PART OF THE MAIN GROUP!!
I mean considering how the main group held lapis captive for decades, and peridot was literally an antagonist at one point I can understand it'd be a bit awkward
