Again helping our children to grow an appreciation of the sea and its importance to the environment is so important. (Glad his project was done at home, someone sent us five pounds of sand from St Augustine, Florida and he made a seascape so the shells would look at home. From home to school and back two pounds of sand was distributed here and there. Dil reports sand everywhere, even on the third floor. Oh the cost of learning!)

    • @PlumIslandSeaCabin
      @PlumIslandSeaCabin  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Chris! The off season is the absolute best. Summer is tough because there is a lot of foot traffic and many (sometimes all) of the gates are closed for nesting plovers. Fall and winter are good because less foot traffic, but less day light. I would say early spring before they close the beaches and fall :) I will go into more detail on an upcoming video and give you all the specifics :) Yes! You can eat beach plums! I tried one once and it was very tasty! Hmmmm...Lysol - that is a good possibility for the bottle! I am going to research it! I did a little research yesterday , but it's still hasn't been confirmed! What is the best time of year for shelling there? I would love to come there some time!

      Hi Debrann! I am going to talk a little about this in an upcoming video. The off season is the absolute best. Summer is tough because there is a lot of foot traffic and many (sometimes all) of the gates are closed for nesting plovers. Fall and winter are good because less foot traffic, but less day light. I would say early spring before they close the beaches and fall :) I will go into more detail on an upcoming video and give you all the specifics :) Thanks for always joining me on my beach adventures!

    After seeing the purple sand and sand dollars, decided to head up! Do you know which lot is closest to Emerson rocks? Or is there just one lot?

    • @PlumIslandSeaCabin
      @PlumIslandSeaCabin  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Ann! Yes, thank you for watching. Lot 7 is closest. They are only exposed 2 hours before low tide through the low tide. After that they are underwater and not visible. Check the tide chart and be sure to time it correctly if you plan to search the rocks :) I am so excited you are coming. Where are you driving from and report back with any cool finds!

      We’re here from NJ and venturing out to find the rocks in the morning. The chart said low tide is at 6:19am tomorrow. Would that mean I have til 8:19am to search the rocks? Also, I noticed on the map there’s a lighthouse. Do you know if there’s shells on that end also? And do you have to look carefully for the purple sand or is it widespread?

      Awesome. Ok. Yes, 6:57am is dead low tide. I always try and get there earlier so I would go as soon as the refuge opens. It's 5$ cash to get in so be sure to have that so you don't have to leave and go back. It's a negative low tide today so you should have a bit more time. The Emerson Rocks (on the left when you are facing the ocean) at lot 7 will be exposed, but the tide comes in pretty quickly so just be sure to watch where you are so you don't get stuck on the rocks. The water comes in and makes those rocks a little island. Just watch for that when you are shelling. Those rocks are the 1st to disappear. The Bar Head rocks (to the right) stay exposed longer. So start at Emerson and then move to Bar Head. Also, the refuge opens at sunrise. So try to get there for when it 1st opens to maximize your time. The purple sand - I know there is some at lot 7 high up on the beach by the dunes. Good luck and let me know how you do 😃 also, if you have questions while you are out there, email me PlumIslandSeaCabin@gmail.com and I'll get back to you.

      @Ann Dugan the lighthouse is on the opposite end of the island. After you leave the refuge, take a right at the crossroad. Follow that road all the way to the end. It will be on your left. It's a little lighthouse. The northern section of the island (where the lighthouse sits) isn't good for shelling.

      Hi Ann! One more thing. The 2nd low tide is around 7pm tonight if you go to lot seven around 5 or 530. The Emerson Rocks will be exposed. They are good to hunt for sand dollars! Email me tonight if you want. I would love to see how you like the island! Happy hunting! Jaime

      The exoskeleton is dark until it becomes sunbleached and lightens. You can tell when a sand dollar is alive when it's covered with cilia. I show it in a few of my other videos. Thanks so much for watching!! 😃

      Hi Fiona!
      Thanks for tuning in! On PI we have a boat load of busted surf clams and quahogs - "the heaps". Some have amazing purple coloring (wampum) and markings - anything notable we stop and dive into detail on. In past videos we reference this, but great point - for new viewers, I'll be sure to reference that every now and again! Thanks for checking out my channel! Have a shell of a day friend 🌊✌❤

    You move the camera way to fast makes me sick to watch. And the cage you found. You should pull that off the beach so turtles and such don't get stuck. Throw it away please.

    • @PlumIslandSeaCabin
      @PlumIslandSeaCabin  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi there! Thanks for watching! Or trying to at least 😳😬 Agreed about it moving too fast. I noticed that when I watched it on the TV. When I filmed it it didn't seem that fast, but when I watched it after on a larger screen I felt the same way. I will for sure film slower going forward. Noted! The "cage" is a lobster trap and it's illegal to move or take them from the beaches. You can be fined hundred of dollars or even be imprisoned. Each trap is licensed and numbered with the lobstermens information. They are eventually collected and reclaimed. ❤✌🌊
