Epic Storm Finds! We just had our 1st BIG storm of the season with another one coming this weekend! And it did not disappoint! It was for sure a shell storm! This storm system lasted couple days with swells and waves hitting 12'. These types of storm churn up the ocean and are known to wash up some amazing and unusual beach finds. In this video we find some massive beach scores - huge moon snails, hermit crabs, deep water shells like Stimpsoni Colus, New England Neptunes, Waved Whelks and more! Today we popped over to the beach with Kim, Beth & Celeste to checkout the ocean and the shells are crazy! Beach combing post storm was some of the best combing we've EVER experienced. I would be out in the cold water just like you guys if I lived where I lived near an ocean. The hermits were out in full force today. So very cool you put t hgv em in the water. Amazingly beautiful moon shells. So big and bold. The welcks are beautiful. My favorite moons today are the black erradesant shells along with the pinks and blues on the moon shells. It was awsome to see so many people with you today. Just a beautiful cold day. I enjoy the cold weather. The smiles on your faces said it all. You were like a kid who hit the jackpot. Thank you so very much for a great day of shelling. Just a BIG WOW

Oh wow so many moons and neptunes and all the others. The one you released I would be so tempted to take it home and feed it and have it as a pet, but I wouldn’t ever do that. And yes if you fall drop the shells and catch yourself so you don’t break something. What a shell hunt. Wonderful. Thanks for taking me along. Woohoo definitely a shelling jackpot! Looks like shelling overload and for me there wasn't enough time to pick up or see everything between fighting the cold and the tide. Beautiful moons! Hats off to Celeste for getting down to enjoy the fun - I have Multiple Sclerosis and use hiking poles to help me teeter around to shell on beach and rocks but I can't imagine being immersed when it is so cold. Be interested in knowing what you guys are using on your feet, hands, legs to keep warm (waterproof?). We have been at beach here last few days in SoCal when it has been 32⁰ 🥶 wearing fleece lined hiking pants but not in the water like you - don't have that thick New England blood to keep us warm. Shell on! 🥰
Hi Victoria -it was totally overwhelming in the very best way! I use hand warmers in my pockets and wear thermal clothing under 2 more layers of regular clothing! lol. So may layers. The pants celeste had on were waterproof so all the water was just rolling off her. It was pretty amazing!
Hand warmers! Duh! will have to get some - maybe check out either cold water surfing booties and/or hip waders. Thanks for the tips!
Omg Jaime!!! You must have been over the moon at the beach today!!! I can't believe how many hermit crabs were in the shells. And that HUGE Neptune that was in perfect condition, unfortunately it was already a crabs' home! Christmas came early for you! I'm so happy for you! ❤️❤️❤️ Merry Christmas!!! 🎄

@@PlumIslandSeaCabin nope. I do find them in smaller whelks, but it would have to be an enormous crab who could carry the weight of a full sized whelk. 😅

Hey Solace! It was epic! I've only seen the beach like that 2 other times. So much fun! Did you get any shells in Maine? I have friends all the way down the coast and NY and NJ were crazy with shells too! A friend of mine for over 3 intact whelks! Whoa!
@@PlumIslandSeaCabin I'm actually in Florida for the holidays with my family. Of course, I'm also trying to get in as much shelling(and filming) as possible!
I shelled quite a bit during the two hurricanes and Nor'easters in Maine this past fall. I found shells I have never found before in Maine - stay tuned to my channel if you want to go crazy for Neptunes! 🤣

It was amazing! We had such a blast and 40 degrees is way better than 15 so that was for sure a treat! Hahaha. They only thing that would have been better is if the deep water shells were vacant! But they were still super fun to find!

I was so excited to see the beach wheelchair! I’m one of those who can’t make it onto the beach anymore. My daughter told me the fire department in Atlantic Beach, NC where she lives, loans out beach wheelchairs! And your friend Celeste inspires me! She just crawls everywhere! There’s still hope! Those mega moons do you measure by the size of aperture or circumference? You should measure your hand and the when you rest the shell on your hand it will give a good idea of it’s size

Love the large bivalves too, especially the intact pairs...Atlantic Surf Clam, Spisula solidissima I believe. Max size over 8 inches...

Did this happen to be on Sunday? I went Sunday morning and found 36 giant knobbed whelks in Jersey and I was freaking out too! Finding that many whelks at once is like unheard of. Just curious if the ocean did the same thing for you as it did for me on the same day. ❤🎉
