Betty Boothroyd slams Boris Johnson's government in resurfaced speech

- Baroness Betty Boothroyd, who has died at the age of 93, slammed Boris Johnson's government during one of her speeches in the House of Lords.
The former Labour MP was awarded a life peerage after stepping down as the first female Speaker of the House of Commons.
"Never in my parliamentary experience have I witnessed such a collapse of the people’s trust in a government who promised so much and so quickly and who are now groping for desperate solutions to problems that they said would not arise," Baroness Boothroyd said.

She slammed Boris Johnson because he is not a serious politician. Betty is right.
Well spoken Betty. I am almost 80 years of age and have seen Governments come and go over my lifetime but have never witnessed such a ‘shambles’. We desperately need REFORM and the sooner the better.
Not the reform party they are bigger con artists and charatana than even Johnson and his clown show.

See people spoke so highly of Thatcher, but lets be honest Betty was the real Iron Lady, she was one of a handful in those days who had real commitment to our democracy, who had high moral integrity and whom wasn't afraid to speak her mind. As a speaker she was entirely unbiased, i recall watching her when i was a kid and was amazed at what a character she was, how she held those to account whom tried to find loopholes in the system who tried to disregard parliamentary protocol on both sides of the house she held an iron grip which in term strengthened our democracy. Her passing is an end of an era, and a great loss to our democracy, but in her passing we can still take hope from the examples she gave. Her service complete now she may rest in peace.
Great speech from a wise old lady with real life common sense ..which this government lack. As she said there to busy trying to blame other's for there failings. 🙄🤬
Boris should be in prison like any member of the public that commited hate crimes.

A turnip could do a better job of upholding standards in the house of commons than Lindsay Hoyle. The man is a shambles.
It would have made a huge difference these last few years to have a speaker as competent as Betty in charge. May she rest in peace.

From a dwindling generation of MP's who still had intelligence, morals and dignity. Yes, you can site bad apples throughout Parliamentary history, but with the current Government I'd be surprised to find anyone who isn't up to their necks in some level of malpractice.
