Well I don’t think it’s so much the content. Biology, chemistry, maths and physics still remain the same, though the A levels use to be harder in the 60s everyone relearns it all at the first year of uni so it makes no difference. I’d say it’s what subjects and how it’s taught. We should be teaching children philosophy instead RE, what’s religion going to do for you when philosophy is so much broader and helps you view religion from an objective omniscient perspective while religion you only can learn it from a first person perspective. Ways of living should be included in PD, all I got taught was wear a condom because bill gates wants you lol But in seriousness, PD should train you too pay bills, mortgages, rent, credit card, bank accounts, accidents, insurance, health, relationship advice, coping mechanisms and so much more that young adults don’t learn until an older age. I would have appreciated learning that at school. Also psychology is another subject missing. It’s hardly taught and it’s heavily leaned politically to the left and I think personally psychology should be neutral because it’s the study of the mind, the moment a study becomes biased then it’s no longer valid. So many issues children grow up with and psychology can help understand this from a young age and might save some children lives down the road. DT should include more actually useful stuff rather than stitching clothes. Like actually domestic stuff, the food part is great but can be expanded to healthier meals. Plumbing and electrical appliances should be taught to everyone regardless of gender because it’s a matter of safety in my opinion. Gardening wouldn’t be a bad idea either, maybe some DIY stuff. Also I’d introduce a once a week training apprenticeship for year 10 to 11 so they can start cutting the years back to become a professional. Your giving children an opportunity to work and see what they like and do not like, especially at a young age it would be beneficial.
Our education system has been garbage for a while now. It has almost certainly been going down hill ever since the 1980s when they scrapped 'O Levels and brought in GCSEs instead.
