Nice list Geoff there is no issue on the order cause it’s a matter of personal preferences. I would have try to rank deanston within even if it’s almost impossible to kick someone else out. My top 3: Springbank Ardnamurchan Kilkerran. Really enjoyed the craigallachie 13yo with a large group after a long lunch! Adelphi and Thompson brothers for IB. maybe a top 5 IB list?
Good list. Nice to see Craigellachie get some love. The 13 is great, the 17 just fantastic! On a sidenote, am I the only one who thinks Ardnamurchan is a bit overrated? They are good yes, but come on.. Of the "young" distilleries Torabhaig actually impressed me more than Ardnamurchan have done so far
Springbank, nuff said.... Yes YESsss please do a Kilkerran comparo. I just bought the 16, and I had it cracked opened yesterday, but I think that it needs to open up a little bit. I have the 8 CS sherry and 12, and I consider those to be very flavorful and interesting. Dying to watch that video already
You are closer match then Jeff Whiskies video couple weeks ago to the actual Dramface vote. Dramface is such a brilliant site! Glasgow Distillery will be in my top 10!
Hard to make a list, I might say top five in no order: Bruichladdich , Oban, Ardna, Island park, Springbank ( went 2 weeks ago to a Barley to Bottle tour, nice!)
Great list, Geoff. My top 5 would be Lochranza, Kilchoman, Lagavulin, Ardnamurchan, and Bruichladdich. I still have a soft spot for the Lagavulin distillate despite, you know, Diageo.
Excellent ranking. I agree. Springbank #1. I've not totally connected with the Craigellachie 13 yet but have total confidence in your opinion so I am sticking with Craigellachie & waiting for that "moment". Thinking about investing in the 17 but kind of expensive in the US +/- $160. Great idea on the Kilkerran comparison. Try the 2023 KK16. Next level. Thanks for the awesome content.
Fun list. People always rank Springbank 1st, I don't even see it on a shelf 😔. For me it's hard to rank my favorite distilleries. Maybe I haven't tried that many yet. I can agree with Arran most of the stuff I had is easy to find, tastes good and they have a fair price.
Hard not to argue with your picks man. I'd put Arran in the top three however. Like you say they can do no wrong in my books. The next question should be: What are the bucket-list distilleries to visit when in Scotland? I have some ideas since one day I'll make the pilgrimage. Thoughts?
...and that's why I won't even put some of those distilleries on my list, even Glengyle or Lochranza... I'm getting my first bottle of Ardnamuchan (ever!) tomorrow), so I'll see about that.
1. Laphroaig. I adore almost everything they do. Their PX and 10 Sherry are divine, and I wish they didn't discontinued their Triple Wood. Their 10 CS is my favorite whisky, period. 2. Kilchoman. Everything they do is gold. Their Machir Bay CS might be one of my favorites of all time. 3. Lagavulin. The 8 and the 16 are so solid I rely on them on a weekly basis. Amazing stuff. 4. Glengyle. Their 12 is one of my favorites of all time, and their 8 CS and their Heavily Peated are absolutely incredible. 5. Glendronach. Their 12 is probably my favorite daily sipper. Everything else is absolutely amazing: the Peated one, their Port wood one, their 15, their CS... Just superb. 6. Glenrothes. I might be the only one that thinks that their basic and widely available 10, 12 and Makers Cut are just insanely good. I love them. 7. Tobermory. The regular 10 and the Rioja casks are just incredible. Their Tobermory 12 is dramatically underrated, I LOVE it. 8. Ardbeg. Their 5, 10, the Corryvreckan and the Uigeadail are amazing. Even bad batches are way better than 99% of available Scotch. I wish they just stopped the special releases. 9. Edradour. The 12 and the Signatory Vintage 10's are insanely good. Regular Ballechin 10 is outstanding. 10. Glenglassaugh. Their 12 is glorious and criminally underrated. Their Portsoy is just one of the best peated Scotches out there, totally ignored for some reason. 11. Springbank. Special mention to Bunnahabhain (their 12 CS is incredible, their Staoisha is shockingly delicious), Longrow (I can't believe it is widely available), Tomintoul (Old Ballantruan is the most underrated Scotch ever), Caol Ila (Port Askaig 100º is insanely good), Mortlach (the 14 is one of the best sherried whiskys I've ever tried, IB's are insanely good), Lagg (their future CS 10/12 yo will be the best Scotch ever, trust me), Bladnoch (best aroma of any Scotch, except Laphroaig, of course) and Glen Scotia (amazing 15 and Victoriana, their heavily peated Scotch is underrated as hell)
thanks for the video! Thought I'd share my list of favorite distileries at the moment (not based on Dramface list though): 10. Caol Ila 9. Talisker 8. Lagavulin 7. Ardnamurchan 6. Ben Nevis 5. Benromach 4. Laphroaig 3. Ledaig 2. Kilkerran 1. Springbank
Good list Geoff! Mine would not include Springbank as I have never tried it. Mine would be Ardnamurchan, Arran, Kilchoman, Benromach (Contrasts), Glengyle, Craigellachie, Tobermory (Ledaig), Ardbeg, Bruichladdich, and Loch Lomond (Inchmoan). Cheers!
Aside from the fact, that I might have put Speyburn where you put Tobermory, and swapped Kilkerran and Springbank, I agree with your list. I just appreciate the earthy, savoury character of Kilkerran so much more than I do any of the three Springbank product lines
Speyburn wasn't in the Dramface list. I intentionally limited myself to their top 15. Great brand, though. Totally understandable stance on Kilkerran. It's every bit as good as SB in terms of quality. I have a good number of friends who prefer it, too. 🥃
Springbank, Bruichladdie and Kilkerran belong in the top 3 for me, the order can be debated. I did feel that Speyside was not well represented in either list. I’d have Glendronach in my top 5, 12 is a daily sipper, most releases are presented as craft. Balvenie deserves a top 10 spot as well IMO, they rarely miss on anything. Thanks for the dry humour and let’s get that Kilkerran video going please.
I've heard "car chase" is the closest pronounciation. You are very welcome, Geoff! There is one more bottle on your original list to me. If you have more, please let me know, since for sure I will be visiting often in the future. Slainte!
I revisited the Ledaig rioja and the 10 after a while (my first impression was that I preferred it over the 10)... Surprised how alcoholic the Rioja felt, way too young. I turned around completely, I absolutely prefer the 10, by quite a margin actually (after that I actually took my rioja bottle to my parents house in case I want to sip something while there). Also I went over a bottle of the 18 a bit faster than I should have (mostly because I had a replacement which I don't always do) and I have to admit I got a bit sick of it. Way too sweet. Don't get me wrong, it's amazing, but I kept coming back to it too much for my own good and now I don't want anything to do with it. Good thing the other bottle is sealed, I'll come back to it when the time is right, maybe in a year or so. Cheers!
Was it a new bottle of the Rioja or an old one? I bought a new one and, after half a year, I can still say it's so bad that I consider mixing it with Cola at the next BBQ.
@@Hellraiser-ni5qp It was rather new, I think 2023, no earlier than 2022. I can confirm it's relatively new because I know older batches were artificially colored... Pretty sure Gwhisky's bottle is old and colored, the newer ones are much, much lighter (I heard on WhiskyLock that only recently Ledaig stopped coloring their whisky even though that's not official anywhere. Makes sense because I know for a fact that older bottles of both the Rioja and the 18 are much, much darker).
@@Hellraiser-ni5qp Don't mix it with Cola man... at least try blending it with something else that's boring, make it more interesting. One of these days I blended the Rioja with the Edradour 10 and was pleasantly surprised. Don't get me wrong, I like the Rioja... but I have so many better bottles that it really makes no sense to reach for it.
I just had a springbank 18 at a restaurant, way to overhyped in my opinion. Not my cup of tea. Very nice and well thought list despite the 1st place in my opinion 🙌
I believe that from the list in this video, Craigellachie is the only brand using worm tubs. Glad to hear you're enjoying Craigellachie and Ardnamurchan! Incredible brands! 🥃
I am still working on trying many of the distilleries on the list some I can find where I live but only their really entry levels like deanston Virgin oak. So with that my list would be 1. Highland park 2. Springbank 3.laphroaig 4 glen scotia 5 Bunnahabhain 6 tamdu 7. Ardbeg 8.arran 9. Oban 10.clynlish
Solid list man, I'm more in line with yours than the Dramface one. I'd get Glengyle out of your list, as completely opposite of you, I never had a Kilkerran I enjoyed, and instead of Springbank because let's be honest unless we travel to Campbeltown we can't get them or at least get them at a fair price. Instead I'd put Deanston and Glen Scotia. I absolutely hated the White Port Laprhoaig, I think there's something wrong with it so I'm looking forward to your review of it. Cheers dude 🥃
Cheers buddy. Yeah I have a friend who, like you, loves SB but just doesn't get along with Kilkerran. For me they're in the same league, although I'll still go for SB first on most days. Hated the Laphroaig white port, eh? Thoroughly enjoying mine. 😂
For me I would put Edradour at 10 and maybe even Benromach at number one as they’ve become so much more available in my market and don’t break the bank.
I think availability should be factored in these list. Springbank being number one is the absolute worst. They become totally unattainable and if you do find it, it’s extremely overpriced.
I used to be kind of a dork (Ha! "Used to be...." 😆 ) and say, "Who cares about distillery rankings instead of specific bottles? Does it really matter?" Smarter Me says, "Actually... when I'm in the liquor store and they have a unicorn store pick or IB single barrel bottling of an 11yo heavily peated Bunnahabhain, will I take a flyer on that?" Yes. Yes, I will. An 11 year old bottle of Jura? Uh, maybe not.....
@@MrChristopherMolloy I will be very interested if I can buy a Signatory offering of a 14 yo single cask from Bowmore, bottled at cask strength. And there's virtually no way in hell that I would buy a Bowmore 12 yo official bottling. Same distillery, I think....
@@mtpanning Good point, but the question was "Top 10 Distilleries". But to your point, if you were presented with the option of purchasing either an 18yo Signatory Cask Strength bottling of Glen Keith or Bowmore of the same pedigree, the underlying reputation of the distillery might play a factor in your decision, or I may be wrong?
@@MrChristopherMolloy Yeah, I'm not arguing with you. I guess what I'm saying - quite clumsily, I'm afraid - is that distillery reputation only really matters to me if I need to take a shot in the dark with an unknown IB offering (for example, I have no idea if this bottle is good, but I'll give it a try because it's from Clynelish, and I like that distillery. Official bottlings are usually well-known enough that you can know from the bottles themselves (for example, I'm willing to spend on the Talisker 10yo, but the 18yo isn't worth the money.)
Hi Geoff, haven’t got a top10 just my favourite and that’s Benromach. Tend to buy more Benromach bottling’s than any other distillery. Still all these distilleries in the list are putting out good stuff. Slàinte Geoff 🥃

1. Springbank
2. Brucchlad2cchziach
3. Ardbeg
4. Edradour
5. Bunnahabhain
I just had a springbank 18 at a restaurant, way to overhyped in my opinion. Not my cup of tea. Very nice and well thought list despite the 1st place in my opinion 🙌
Do you happen to know how many of these distilleries use worm tubs like Craigalachie ?
I loved Craigalachie before I found your channel. But, I am absolutely loving my bottle of Ardnamarcan Thanks to your channel!
So with that my list would be
1. Highland park
2. Springbank
3.laphroaig
4 glen scotia
5 Bunnahabhain
6 tamdu
7. Ardbeg
8.arran
9. Oban
10.clynlish
Those are all excellent!
No Edradour?
It wasn't in the Dramface Top 15. Those were the only whiskies I was working with here. 🥃
For me I would put Edradour at 10 and maybe even Benromach at number one as they’ve become so much more available in my market and don’t break the bank.
My top three would be Springbank, Benromach and Bruichladdich
To my suprise is that neither Laphroaig nor Talisker made it on top ten
Talisker would definitely have made it on the list if it was included in the Dramface top 15 picks. 🥃
I think availability should be factored in these list. Springbank being number one is the absolute worst. They become totally unattainable and if you do find it, it’s extremely overpriced.
Soon you will ad Ladd, won't you Geoff?
Not easy to set a strict rank to one’s top 15 cloud..
No Highland Park 😢😢
Highland Park wasn't on the list from Dramface. Great distillery! 🥃
I like your list better.
Don't you think the reputation of a distillery matters? I do, particularly when it comes to plunking down good money for a bottle.
@@mtpanning 👍
Where's Edradour?
Edradour wasn't in the Dramface top 15. 🥃
Talisker seems like it is missing. Their excellent Parley Wilder Seas has raised their status.
Talisker would 100% be on this list had it been in the Dramface top 15! 🥃
@@GwhiskyFair point that you make!!
Is Number 1 🤔 ...
Springbank 😂
You couldn't possibly be more wrong...
Hi Geoff, haven’t got a top10 just my favourite and that’s Benromach. Tend to buy more Benromach bottling’s than any other distillery. Still all these distilleries in the list are putting out good stuff. Slàinte Geoff 🥃
Guess you'll never de a Deanston fan LOL ;-)
0:07 -- no score? An outrage!!!
Now the question is what’s your favourite of the distilleries outside their top 15? MacAllan right!?😂
(I’m guessing Lagavulin since the 8 was your WOTY for 2023…..??)
Looking forward to Ardnahoe's first 5yo bottling coming in a week or so.
Yeah me too! 🥃
Given the chance a 1000% you'd have put oban on your list. I pay attention.
Lol this is accurate. 🥃
Interesting. This list would be completely different 15 years ago. Times have changed I guess.
For sure! 🥃
Yummy
That music loop you have in the background sure is irritating. Do you really need it?
I like it.
@@Gwhisky I was enjoying your videos prior to the the insertion of the music, but not anymore. Goodbye.
@@HolyMoley2u Later! 👋
Stopped watching when you put Ardbeg at dead last position.
Where is Glendronach and Talisker?
Not on the Dramface list, so I couldn't use them. Talisker would definitely be there! 🥃
