The Stylistics music was written, orchestrated, and produced, by Philly's own Thom Bell. He was a classically trained musician who always used full symphony bands in his artist recordings.
My daughter left The Minstrel Show CD in the family car and I heard it once, and then I skipped back to it and played it again and again and again...I couldn't get over Russell swooning "how could it be, I had the number right in front of me..." I grew up near Philadelphia in this time frame and still can't get enough of Thom Bell and the Delfonics but 10 or 12 seconds of that mix of 'one night affair' are so haunting - 9th wonder was brilliant to slow it down just a little.
This is a tale of Tales. The passion you can have with someone in a fleeting moment. The memory of a something you don't know but experienced it. Haunted for life. 9th killed this on too many levels. But the beauty and wisdom of the Stylistics. 🙏🏼
I know sucks what brought me here is who sampled this lil brother sampled this song for a track called loving it and then lil wayne sampled their sample for "this is what I call her" that opening few seconds amazing
Stylistics believe or not is what got me listening to classic R&B, I’ve heard almost every one of their albums but never heard this particular song til I heard 9th Wonders beat, it was so smooth
Had to come here after , a re listen to the minstrel show, this song makes me cry I broke my father record when he bought this ... this Christmas im buying it for him
I been listening to this timeless music. My parents were born in the 50s so I have always been exposed to this type of music.... but when I heard Little Brothers Lovin It I knew where the sample came from.... 9th Wonder did his thing... he knows good music too.
The Stylistics are a timeless group. My favorite old school 70's band no doubt. Deeper songs than the Temps..just sayn..my boy Russell Tompkins Jr. had better Vocals and carried more weight than Eddie Kendricks. The Stylistics..The greatest
Russell Thompkins Jr sang every song from 1968 until he left in 2000. He even sang backup for himself on many. Had studio backup singers first 3 albums and 12 of 14 top singles in a row. Real deal
Russell Thompkins Jr's soft speaking voice. Then that amazing sound of his 4 range singing voice. Great job Russell. Keep up the singing.....you are still fabulous at 70 years young. 🎶❣🎶
And that became his wife of 46 years until she passed this summer 9/8/19 , i know this because its what happened to me . RIP Joann , our song #46YearAffair Remix , thank you stylistics
As big a fan as I am, I'm really ashamed to say I've never heard any of the songs from this album. Matter of fact, I vaguely remember this album only because of the cover, since it didnt' have them on the front. WOW! But I'm loving these songs. Wonder why they didn't get any airplay?
Shout out to 9th Wonder for this MEAN sample!!!!!

word to 9th wonder for these samples
Carl Mitchell Little* Brother
Freshman year for me has both of these tracks on repeat
Why are the first minutes of most old school music so masterfully orchestrated?
💫✨ 👏 RIGHT!?! 💫✨
the artists didn’t have phones as teenagers so all their time went to mastering their craft
🎶I just can’t go on
Living life like I do…
Comparing each song to you
It just wouldn’t do…
They’re not yooooooUuuuuUuuuuUUUUU!🎵
right ? there was so much less distractions back then. everybody found a hobby and focused deeply into it @@nbm6586

I wish that there was songs and groups like this today!
Me too. Compositions like this just don't seem to happen these days. This stuff outclasses anything in the last 10-15 years imho
there is now. durand jones and the incidations, thee lakesiders, joey quinones
Thundercat
When they took music out of the public school system this type of creativity disappeared

Disco was so beautiful in the beginning.
