It` s time for another "versus" video. This time I would like to know if you prefere the classic 747`s or the modern 747`s. I didn` t know what to do with the B747-400 cause somehow it`s in the middle. That` s why I only compared the Boeing 747-8 with the Boeing 747-200. Most of you know the difference between a B742 and a B748 but I decided to add a "Classic" or "new gen" sign for those who can' t keep apart the B742 and B748 :)
The first Boeing 747-200 entered service in February 1971. A total of 393 of the 747-200 versions had been built when production ended in 1991
The Boeing 747-8 entered service in 2011. Until today a total of 120 of the 747-8 versions had been built and of course it is still in production.

The 747 is one of the most iconic and best looking commercial aircraft out there. It started an era of greatness! Truly a revolutionary aircraft.

Next Gen for me thanks. It's quieter, burns less fuel, has more room, better performing wing, cool serrated engine cowling, AND, still has that new car smell.
Great video as usual. With the 747's such iconic shape, you can feel at home pretty much anywhere you see one. It's like seeing an old friend, so to speak.

A380 is just a big ol elephant of a plane, 747''s are like swans in flight, the iconic hump and wide body made it a classic indelibly marked in flight history.

I had the misfortune to fly on the 380 from LAX to China and without a doubt the worst experience I have had to endure in my lifetime, 68 years old. I make annual trips to China and now route my trip through Detroit so I can fly Delta 777. The 380 configuration is definitely for the smaller chinese traveler. Zero leg room and zero padding in the seats. When I got off that bitch, my ass was killing me. Unfortunately, I had to ride that POS back to LAX. I live in Atlanta, so the new route works out for me extremely well! The sad part is that Boeing will stop production probably next year, which is a crying shame. I say continue with more efficient engines. 380 is pretty much an albatross around he neck of Airbus and production will not make it past 12/2017.
Surely the seat width and legroom and quality of seat padding is a choice of the airline? - they specify how they see fit. The makers name is verging on irrelevant
Exactly!! As stated above, it is for the smaller Chinese traveler. Let me also add that when I traveled on the 380, western travelers were few. Forgot to add the airline, which is China Southern.
I still never cease to be amazed that these planes actually fly! They look so incredibly huge. I know planes like the Anitov and Globemaster are much bigger, but it just boggles my mind that all of these planes fly the way they do! I love the feeling you get when the pilot opens up the throttles, and you feel the wheels come off of the ground! Makes me feel like an excited kid each and every single time! :)

The next gen is a wonderful example of progress. I was a flight engineer and have a soft spot for the 3 person cockpit, but love what Boeing did with taking a Dreamliner type wing and engines and putting it on a proven airframe. Seems to be selling for cargo carriers!

Took a while but finally the classic's were seen taking off and the newbies coming in for a landing. First 3 or so had it the other way around and thought this was a stack deck in favor of the newbies with the symbolism showing the classic's coming in from the skies as to be grounded.

My former CFII told me that landing a 747 was one of the easiest airplanes to land of all the airliners that he flew while with Pan Am for 30+ years.

All generations to me still look the most iconic, memorable, and reliable long distance passenger and commercial aircraft ever produced. I guess if I had to choose, I would say the newer generation, but for all the updated technology built into them, than any surface appearance.
Such a shame to see that the 747-8 is basically relegated to cargo duties, with the exception of Luf flying it for passengers. The 747-8 is a beautiful aircraft.
Yes, and it's more confortable than A380. I was on board both of B748 and A380 of Lufthansa. B748- the BEST!
don't forget about Korean airlines they use the 747-8i too :)

There is also 8 privately owned 747-8i's. Boeing is also showing 1 order for a 747-8i for an unidentified airline.

The classic is from the good ol' day of aviation when none of those crappy airbuses were about. So I gotta go for the classic :)
I love the 747, I think its truly the princess of the sky. Anyone can create a cylinder with wings or in the 380s case a taller cylinder with wings but a 747 is iconic. It's art. I have to say though the 787 has very sexy wings.

I'd rather push any 747 than fly an A380! Nothing against the newer 747s, but I like the classic 747 better - for looks and sounds. I'm sure the newer ones are as nice and comfortable, though.
Try full volume without headphones.Try to find an A380 and 747 takeoff.Find out yourself

I love both! The classic B742, though, noisy as it is, is so graceful. No doubt, the 747 is an amazing craft no matter the generation.
I understand the "Eco efficient" new gen airliners, but in my opinion the classic 747s win by a long shot.
I prefer the look of the 748, and the sond of the 742 ;) Awesome video, mate!

Obviously, the A380 is bigger, quieter, powerful, whatever you want, but - for me - the 747 has a design that makes it unique, more elegant with its narrowed front and its highest windshield that gives its look of a aerodynamic God from the skies.
I just can't decide which plane I like more... the classic 747 or the new generation 747.
They are both beautiful airplanes! So, for me it's a tie.
I think both brilliant machine. From a business perspective, the A 380 takes the cake.
Grace perspective, the Boeing 747 is king. This simulator also flew in brilliant machine.
None of the other of accessories, both machines wonderful creation.
The Boeing 747 has been awesome since the first one rolled off the assembly line. And the new 747-8 is even better IMHO. I sure like flying them in Flight Simulator, a very powerful airliner...
Cant beat the classics
I think the new Gens are fantastic! but it seems as if the 747 has not re-claimed its title of Queen of the Skies. :( most of them were Cargo jets even classic ones :( the only one I saw as passenger was the Lufthansa. maybe because its still an extremely relatively new plane. hopefully it keeps growing specially as a commercial plane because it's such a beauty to watch.
I think because the 777 took a lot of the orders away from the 747

Why did the firefighters have to spray the Luftansa?
It's called a water salute, I am not really sure on why this aircraft was saluted, but here are some of the common reasons.
The aircraft is having its first flight
It lands at the airport for the first time
A pilot is retiring
A ATC is retiring
The aircraft is having its last flight (like concorde)
And other reasons
