When I was little we went to Mirabilandia once every two years (the other year we went to Gardaland) and I rode Sierra Tonante once, the earliest I could, in 2001 and then several times in the same day in 2003, it wasn't super smooth but it was perfectly beareable. I rode it in 2005 for the last time and by then it was clear maintenance was lacking and it wasn't a great experience, I rode it only twice that day :( with more and better maintenance it could have lasted a few more years while still giving a good experience, I loved its iconic skyline and the roaring sound it made...
@@davidjellis It had had a very high maintenance cost, it was made of wood and the direction thought better to just take it away instead than running it poorly

Love the old wooden roller coasters. Have you ever heard of Lakeside Amusement Park in Roanoke, Virgina? They used to have one much like the one in this video. Thumbs-up.
Maybe someday Mirabilandia could bring this coaster back. Maybe have GCI build it so that the new incarnation will be smooth while maintaining its speed.
Thanks for the video, David! I remember this ride from when I was a kid, but I never got to ride it before it closed. I remember there being some sort of a restriction that kids younger than 12 can't ride back then (I was 8 at the time). I doubt it was enforced, but my parents didn't want to risk it with the queue being quite long.
Shame you never got to ride it...was a bit rough though when I rode it so I wasn't totally surprised when it was removed, but always sad to lose a wooden coaster!

HAhahaha, "when they get round wheels it'll be better" seriously laughed at that, did see that coming. Although the ride did look painful, I know the feeling! You gotta love to hate wooden roller coasters.
This has nice big sweeping hills, a thing of the past. Now wooden coasters are one big lift hill, and 20 cheap bunny hills at enormous speed with exhausting G forces. A roller coaster should slow down as it crests a hill, not make your eyes bulge out on each one like Boulderdash. Boulderdash is a one and done.
I mostly agree - but think that Boulder Dash at its best is a wonderful coaster...have ridden it when it was rough and would agree, but on a good day it's one of the finest coasters around.
BackSeatJunkie I guess these things happen...coasters don't last for ever. It was indeed an interesting layout, but it was pretty rough and they clearly decided it was cheaper to demolish than to re-track and maintain it properly.
Basically, I got shot off the train by the bandits as they boarded it. Then the next time the train came around, I was one of the bandits and shot the other guy off. It was very simple stuff and I was very young man.

Sì, è stato rimosso parecchi anni fa
ma va...
c'è ispeed al suo posto..
There was a Lakeside Park at Salem VA, is that the one?
It had two wooden coasters called Wildcat (closed 1967) and Shooting Star (closed 1986).
Hi there! This was in Mirabilandia park, in Italy ;)
Bellissimo.. l'avevo fatto nel lontano 1998 quando il parco aveva appena aperto.... peccato che l'abbiano rimosso.

The trains wasn't made by Morgan, they were made by a renowned Galaxi coaster company, SDC.
But yeah, these SDC trains were the main reason why Sierra Tonante lifespan was short.

Wait Italy had a wooden coaster?
It did indeed!
Wasn't this the coaster shut down by stricter building regulations?
That's what it says on Wikipedia...so I assume that is true. To be honest it was not the best wooden coaster I have ridden!
Looks surprisingly rough for a Cobb coaster. At least Ispeed exceeded this coaster.
It was quite a juddery experience, even in the front seats...would have been rougher near the back I suspect!

It's a shame it has gone but the land is taken up with others coasters now so unlikely to see this ever being rebuilt.

it'd cost the same amount of money to either build a new one or to maintain it.
