    i'm watching all of these episodes back, but just came here to stop and say: you are a really unique creator and it's a blast to watch. Keep on pushing trough and stay motivated because it's a wonderful thing you're posting here and you have a small but very hooked audience that loves each and every quality video that you post.

      yeah myself an Ian are on a pints promise soon as I can get back into the UK. All the four owners I heard from are sound men, but that makes sense when you think they were into getting back in touch when I reached out. Looking forward to continuing that story.

    i cant begin to say how HUGE to me it was when you stated that you dont do sensationalist titles or thumbnails. Its long been a big gripe for me, especially as the car videos in particular on youtube are absolutely stuffed to the brim with that crap. Your videos, aside from the incredible cinematic and post production quality, has really struck close to my heart through its content and your demeanor. I dont own a Lotus or a Porsche, however my passion and love for the marques is very much abundant in my thoughts all the time. Inspiration this channel serves, as I aspire to build my own Lotus Elan, my quinessential sports car, essence of Chapman and Lotus history. Thank you so much

    Don't know how i missed this episode. I've hit that bell so i won't miss it when it comes out next. I found some rust in my Discovery 1 last week after dropping it in a mud hole and pulling carpets out to clean them. Just spent my sunday patching the floor and come home to watch this thanks for the inspiration to get out there and do it.

      Great to hear, hope the floors good for many more miles :) There seems to be something going on, you're not the first to say they didn't get notified even though everything's in order. Here's hoping it's a temp glitch.

    Thank you for not making sensationalized thumbnails and clickbait titles! I have stopped watching channels that do that to excess and honestly, I think that they do that because their lower quality content won't get views otherwise. On another note, nice bending brake so far! I would be up a creek if I had to bend anything over 18" on my little bending brake :)

    • @soupclassicmotoring
      @soupclassicmotoring  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      These days it's just the done thing - hamming up thumbnails. The interesting alternative is using a picture that is so good you don't need text. I might still be up the creek with the brake man, it'll probably need a lot of bracing ;)

Most of my time seems to be taken up messing around with my MGF and trying to keep my problem child Mk1 Land Rover Freelander alive. Another great episode. A little tip, whenever you fold a piece of metal you will gain a thickness of metal to your dimensions. All the best.

    • @soupclassicmotoring
      @soupclassicmotoring  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      oh cool, so you mean if I'm folding a piece of 1mm sheet to 90˚and the folded side was supposed to be 10mm, it'll now be 11mm?

    • @stevendalton7578
      @stevendalton7578 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's been a while since I folded any steel but I think if your making a box section say 90mm deep by 90mm wide you need to take away the steel thickness away from the 90mm when marking out the steel. So if the steel is 1mm thick you mark out at 89mm then you gain the remaining 1mm when you fold.

    George, The carb is a VV or variable venture, I worked at a ford dealership as a mechanic in Harrogate and there was a mass call back on this carb when it first came out, The plastic pistons would expand and stick in the body so it jammed the RPM very scary when you took your foot off the throttle, Another great video and i will give you another shout out! Another top notch episode George. I've finally started work on the Dolomite and I've even created a couple of videos documenting my progress. I've revived the battery (it is a calcium battery so it doesn't have the same issues as a lead acid battery) after I had a brand new one stolen. I've replaced the negative battery (earth/ground) lead to give myself the best possible chance of getting it running again.

      @soupclassicmotoring  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Craig. The first owner was a business in Salford. Long gone, and I thought I came close to finding the people twice but both times with was someone else. I even contacted the current business owners on the same street to see where there were any living memory leads. What Chris the second owner [and motor dealer since the '70's] suggested to me was that these were dream cars, so people often over reached in getting them. The business could have gone bust, or the person could have missed payments, either way I don't think the first owner even had the car for six months.

      Just the house lights Ray, I was travelling light but you can get decent results if you move the talent. The nice out of focus element is called bokeh and camera distance isn't so important as distance between subject and background. Using either a prime lens or using a zoom at it's longest focal length - as in all the way zoomed in will produce it. Who are you interviewing?

      Hi George, no one really (except for you apparently!) I may at some point, if and when I do a video on my build, I would incorporate your skills and craft! Thanks for the explanation! As usual, looking forward to more vids and the development of your projects!

    Watched upto ep19 in 3 days loving it, what does 'soup' refer to?

      @soupclassicmotoring  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You've taken more than the recommended dosage mate, keep going ;) SOUP is just a contraction of souped up, and a catch all for oil, water, fuel and fluids. Bit weird, but stuck with it now, and it looks good.

    I think you are already in touch with a couple of guys from SELOC lotus owners group, your series is highlighted in the chat pages but there is still a trend of owners going from lotus to Porsche to the point where there is an unofficial sub group SEPOC. I am sure you will find your answers for this trend on there.

      Great tip Ian and what a read. I'm stretching here a little but it's like a metaphor for black and white, albeit without the prejudice.

    Alcohol content, ethanol, in modern day fuels can affect carburettors.They're designed for pure gasoline. Ethanol in petrol can cause sludge in the carb, so i'm told

      Cheers Joshua, I'm definitely going to rebuild the carb. Initial inspections while the top cover was off seemed ok, but not a whole lot is visible without a stripdown.

    George, another 'Classic' and your intro had me laughing....Great to see you speaking to a previous owner, cars in the 70's and very early 80's were dreams to some, reality turning those dreams into nightmares for others. Especially UK built cars. The honesty Ian displays, with out rose tinted glasses is refreshing and now you have some real history regards some of the work that has been done....and a pointer to maybe why things are where they are today. Red leather sounds an expensive 'upgrade' from the blue interior but you will make it great no matter which route you choose.
    Best check if those Ford Transit UJ's are still on there....there maybe 'upgrades' available as they must have been a known issue..probably not cheap, though......there must be a specialist company that would now...one for the future..and thanks for sharing the sheet metal brake...looking forward to seeing that in action.

      Haha I hope they are... one they're greasable I'm happy enough. It eats them because the drive shafts are the upper suspension links... the 'Chapman Strut'. It was F1 top suspension tech at the time. There are some talented upholsterers and trimmers amongst the patrons and viewers so I'm excited for the time I can bring you their stories and see them work on the car.
