    I'm subscribing to your channel ashamedly late. Your work is outstanding! This video is taking me back to my electrical training in the aviation world back in the early 00s. I'm continuing to work through your whole catalogue. The Lotus is keeping me rapt with attention, keep up the great work!

    Fantastic analogy on the electric system. I have always had a difficult time understanding and describing electricity. My son and I are starting to discuss what car to rebuild together and when we watched this episode he looked at me and said "dad, I understand the concept of electricity better now". Thanks for producing a great video. Cheers!

      Amazing thing to hear. Like anything man has done, it's simple if you break it down far enough! Least that's how I trick myself into tackling something bigger than me ;) Thanks for the comment John,

    That AC is beautiful as it is. A mechanical overhaul and leave it alone aesthetically would be my choice. They seem to be a little known car of the era but have a beautiful style and bond like quality. Amazing combo between this and the Riva. Lovely garage, great guy, awesome gloves!

    George , came for the esprit , but stayed for the no BS nitty gritty resto work good stuff !! my dad always said think of electricity as water . Switches and relays are just types of gates or dams , it will always take the path of least resistance it really simplifys things,

    Another top quality video. It has the feel of a TV programme which is testament to your production and editing skills. I liked how you got Anna Lisa to give us the correct pronunciation of Michelotti.

    • @soupclassicmotoring
      @soupclassicmotoring  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks mate. I was intrigued by Bertone because so many people pronounce Bertoni. We also discussed Bugatti which is a grey area with Ettore Bugatti being Italian but the cars being considered French. Regardless for the sake of his memory the Italian way would be something like "Boo-gah-ti".

    Always look forward to a new episode of SOUP and seeing what you've been up to. This has fast become what feels like a really proper series without losing the Man In a Shed intimacy that makes the format work so well. It's also excellent motivation for my own projects, none of which are particularly beautiful or exotic, but which all make me happy in their own way. Do keep up the great work and bringing us some really interesting content and insight into DIY restoration. A humble suggestion for some Zagato content if possible, since the Italian theme is enjoyed, even if it's just a lesson in how to pronounce it correctly.

    • @soupclassicmotoring
      @soupclassicmotoring  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Beauty is in the eye of the beholder Angyl, a car's a personal thing. I would love a Zagato bodied Fulvia Sport. I'd really love one. Myself and Anna Lisa discussed Zagato this time around but it fell off the radar unintentionally. WIll def get to it.

    • @noexpensespentstudios
      @noexpensespentstudios 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Beautiful is in the eye of the beholder certainly, but I don't regard beauty as being the most important aspect of a car. I'm a fan of the ugly, the mishapen, the handsome, the brutalist and the plain old ordinary just as much as I am the exotic and beautiful. In fact, the Fulvia Sport Zagato is not a beautiful car from all angles, the front end is particularly challenging to the conventions of beauty, yet I really do admire the styling and proportions of it. A car, much like anything else, does not have to be beautiful to be appealing.

    • @soupclassicmotoring
      @soupclassicmotoring  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      100%. I meant when we love a car it doesn't matter whether it's conventionally beautiful or not. I love the Fulvia Z because its like the right woman - you feel like you're the only one who gets it. And aren't literally ALL Zagato's challenging. Thats Zagato's bag. I think the Giugiaro Esprit is the same, ok less so than the Zagato, but very very uncompromising.

    The thing about the cobra is what I do when I get old electronics too. People may say “It works” but I’m not turning it on untill I’ve gone through the insides making sure nothing is damaged or leaking.
    It might well be working, but I’m not gonna turn it on and potentially ruin more stuff because some old capacitors decided to explode when I flip the switch.

    I'm completely hooked on your videos now and binge watching to get up to date. Loving all the things that you feature but, as the owner of a VX220, the Lotus is of particular interest. It looks relatively easy to strip the Esprit down but I'd be worried I couldn't put it all back together again.

    • @soupclassicmotoring
      @soupclassicmotoring  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've taken one or two photos of the strip down along the way ;) Actually even if I wasn't documenting everything visually, the Esprit is one of those cars with an incredible community of people who have blazed the resto trail before, so there's excellent support out there. Glad you're hooked, next stop world domination. Thanks mate.

    Hey George, love what you're doing here. Production value is fantastic and you must have endless patience. You must have Postman Pat posters on your bedroom wall such is your love for the animation in the videos. Money well spent by me.
    I have a mk2 16v in a rare schwarzblau colour that I'm converting to a 20vt, very common conversion to be honest. I've the car 3 years now and i'm nowhere near completion. Have it stripped now and ready to go off to a welder to for repairs. Donar engine and loom are ready to go so once it's back it's full steam ahead to test fit and run it and then strip again for paint. thinking being that I'll know how it goes back together and less chance of damaging fresh paint on reassemble.
    Keep up the good work sir!

      Thanks a mill Joshua. My folks had a 20v Golf 4, I always liked the engine. That ended when the timing belt let go less than 1000 miles after having been renewed. No Postman Pat posters :D Check E.02 for my old posters haha. Good luck with the build!

    Like many people here now, I found out about your show from Jalopnik and have since watched all 9 episodes. This has to be one of the most intricate, detailed, interesting, and creative car shows I have seen! I appreciate that you keep it clean as well because anyone can make a car show and go on a frustrated swearing rant or inject some dirty humor for a few more likes. I hope that the channel continues to grow because it is worthy of such.
    I would only ask for one thing: would you consider subtitling some of the more strongly accented guests? My firm grasp of purely 'murican English does not help me understand everything being said.

    • @soupclassicmotoring
      @soupclassicmotoring  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lovely words Matt, thanks a mill. I can't go back and add subtitles without taking the videos down, and editing subtitles would mean labour time I doubt I could eek out. What I'll do is make transcripts for E.08 and E.09 in their respective descriptions for reference. Oh and RE keeping it clean, we all have a little swear at some point or other, but yes, best kept [relatively] decent.

      @soupclassicmotoring  7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Are you using a gassless mig ? you do no galvanised steel is toxic , I was a panel beater for 35 years had to give it up as paint and welding fumes sent my immune system haywire and started attacking my kidneys , now on transplant list .

      Yes its gasless. Thanks for the tip on galvanised steel. I haven't used any so ok for now but there's a lot of fumes from the gasless mig and I'd already decided to start wearing a respirator when welding. Fingers crossed for that transplant :)
