There are a few reasons why I could think someone may not want to actually get a real vintage rug. 1. they want a washable rug that also looks vintage because they have pets kids etc. (the ability to clean something yourself without emptying the bank is valuable to a large family house) 2. they intend on having it in a indoor outdoor space like a covered patio or something. (Outdoors isn’t really good for natural fabrics) 3. in art room or something messy where you don’t want to have a real piece of history get ruined by accident. 4. You’re in a dorm or a rented space or a space that you may not stay in for a long period of time and may not have the ability to take things with you when you leave.
It's one of the things some of the TH-cam interior design commentators do that irks me, is like when Paige says why is the parquet flooring in the bedroom/it doesn't go with the design. Most of us can't change the flooring in any our rentals or homes just because it doesn't go with what we can change for much cheaper like furniture or paint which you can get cheap or bring with you place to place. Most people dont rip up a floor just so the design is better. They just have to live with it.
That's how I felt about her fave part of that one room- the floors. Esp these days so many (if not most) of us can't change things like floors. I want to hear reasonable design advice that applies to the majority of the population lol

I’m so happy to hear you supporting a more eclectic “style”, as in not sticking strictly to a theme throughout the home. I moved into a log home 4 yrs ago & despite liking the Lodge Look, I didn’t want my space to appear as if it were a hotel. I’ve collected furnishings that work together but don’t scream ski chalet, & which make me happy. Will they ever work in another style building? Maybe not, but I love them here.

You two are ONLY designers I follow online. I love this collab. My home interior is garbage- you would tear it to pieces, but I feel like if I watch and learn now, someday I’ll have the ability to change it (maybe when all my kids move out), and I might be able to make good choices based on what I’ve learned.
I literally just gasped seeing these two faces pop up in the same video on my feed!! I’ve been waiting for this moment all year since I found you both! Who else follows these gals and have always thought they should be besties?? Meeeeee 🙋🏻♀️
The best dating advice/strategy I've heard was from one of Paige's videos, where she wrote her number on a piece of paper before going into an antique store, just in case there was a cute single guy in there. Genius.
From a psychological and sociological standpoint I wonder what the difference is between people who like boho and people who like mid century modern. I was surprised when you both mentioned your dislike of boho (one of my favorite styles) but then it made more sense when you both agrees on midcentury modern (my least favorite by far). Personally I opt for a transitional style in my home, but I do wonder what the differences in these two style preference personalities are.
I think there is A LOT overlap. MCM are hipster couples with good jobs/money. They live in gentrified neighborhoods and want to distinguish themselves from the masses. MCM lovers more likely to have an art background. There is a "cannon" within mid century... a ladder to climb to obtain the most cherished pieces. They dislike the elite but they are absolutely elitist bc there are like 10 major collectible pieces they shell out healthy 5 figure sums for. Lean progressive in politics... but not always. Embraced by couples bc the style is amenable to men. Rarely blonde... unless bleached, platinum and short.
Boho is a more heterogenous group bc its much more accessible and literal. Leans female. Somewhat of a every woman's shabby chic 2.O. More economically, and racially diverse. Boho interesting with a lot of non-white/Anglo design styles (i.e. African, Asian, some South American). Its embraced by renters and owners alike. Boho doesnt require the design credentials but it can be overdone and be cliche. Nice girls and invisible girls grown up and glown up. The Urban Outfitters turned Anthro girlies. Also the thrift store girlies. If Taylor Swift were a non celebrity regular person. Yet somehow if Issa Rae were too. Boho ppl like RomComs and banana bread. Generally embraced by those who arent on the cutting edge of trends since boho was deemed "over" by the gatekeepers
I don’t know how I missed this video until today, but I was blessed to witness how you compliment each other! I truly hope you and Paige are more involved in each other’s lives, at least keeping in touch because this energy was immaculate ❤️
I am so psyched for this collab !!! Have you both been quietly promising this forever because I feel like you have and this makes me so HAPPY!! It’s like my two favorite imaginary nieces came over for coffee to talk shit about stuff and I get to eavesdrop. ❤
Umm, I haven’t even finished the entire video but I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised and excited to see both of you collaborating together! Just made my day. 😊
Love Caroline's style. I've made a lot of mistakes in my life but one triumph was trusting my instincts on how to decorate based upon my own personal likes. I began collecting vintage pieces because i loved them, when everyone else was into new and being the same. Decades later, I still love my vintage pieces and basic color themes/patterns.
"If you're going to buy a fake vintage thing just buy the real thing" -- is filed right next to "if you're going to earn $65k a year just earn $650k a year" in the advice cabinet. Are handknotted-in-Istanbul rugs frequently posted on craigslist?!? There's a long history of faking stuff in interiors e.g. "trompe l'oeil" or even Delftware originated as knock-off Chinese porcelain. Pretentions *are* design. How do you use design to achieve an affect. How do you give your boring affordable space some romance and luxury...*because* it doesnt naturally have those things. It needs to be done....by design.
Naw, used vintage dressers are way cheaper than new ones. Especially comparing vintage/antique solid wood pieces to new solid wood pieces, the used ones are so much cheaper. Depending on the style they are sometimes even free.
I get what you're saying, but it's honestly cheaper to get vintage pieces of furniture than to buy new fake furniture. The price of fake wood dressers and beds are atrocious. I bought a handful of new pieces when I got my first apartment and quickly decided to stick with secondhand furniture that is made of real wood. WAY cheaper and better quality.
@tf7602 yep. I got my vanity table for free, and the wood and style are gorgeous on it. The woman said she had intended to paint it but never got around to it and just wanted the table and mirror gone.
Y'all, she specifically said "fake vintage Persian rug" and real room-sized Persian rugs are more expensive than any car my family has ever owned. There's several hundred dollar priced fake rugs and there are several ten thousand dollar real Persian rugs. They dont exist on the mid-scale. They're just overpriced fakes.
1) the round mirror is nice )but not above the bed-too small) 2) the bed/ headboard was elegant 3) the zebra rug could be nice in a different space 4) the wicker is classic and ONE piece at a time is a great nod to British Colonialism -- but IS there anything GOOD in that?? 5) the light fixture in that colorful yellow room is cool 6) the sweep of the staircase was beautiful! You could have had me on!😂❤
The tiger looked like it was frolicking on turf. I give them props for covering the furniture in big green leaves. It gave a nice little home to the tiger. 😂
Obviously there are a lot of folks who like this approach this video takes; I prefer critiques that explain the underlying design principals that are in play or that have been ignored. I don't find it very interesting to simply hear whether or not someone likes a space or objects but apparently a lot of folks enjoy that. And yes, I'm aware that in expressing this opinion I'm doing exactly what I'm criticizing.
I think that is the difference between a good designer and bad designer. Articulating the reason for aesthetic, functional and emotional unpleasentness of a design.
I just watched Paige's video, and now I get to watch this one... So happy to see y'all together. 😍 Critiquing homes is exactly the type of video I wanted to see from y'all. 😂
Can i just note: when you said you can buy a vintige piece for the same price of a particle board piece, thats only true in some parts of the world where those pieces were popular many years ago. It eastern europe the only vintige pieces sold are ones that are imported form the west, cuz the furniture from the past is heavy duty (but still) particle board soviet modular pieces, sooo yeah. Vintage pieces here are not as cheap as new cheap furniture.

The collab we ALL knew we needed 🔥💕
I am literally crying at seeing you two together. This is the BEST.
6:10 I actually really look forward to your vlogs! Totally understand that I may be in the minority, but I enjoy picking up some of the lessons you’ve been thinking about.
bless you haha they're my favorite to make!!
same! love ‘em
Me too the vlogs are my favorite!
Thank you for articulating Recipe Selection Dysphoria in your ad. I’ve had it my entire life.
I can’t explain how excited I am for this collab.
My absolute favorites are your vlogs! I’m married and 45, so I don’t need dating or career advice. 🤪But I watch them all because Caroline, you are a genius and so entertaining! Your family vlogs are the absolute best! Every family member is a precious gem! Love them to pieces. Have a fantastic day Caroline. ❤
Oh my god, thank you! First of all, for the collab we all knew we needed! Second, for freeing me from my desperate pursuit of trying to label my interior style. 😄
Genius.
Wait do you remember in which video was this?
That is so funny
LIVING for my two favorite people on TH-cam being in the same room together.
I was a fan of both of you and have waited for this collaboration forever! Brava to you both. 🎉
This is the collab I've been waiting for. I hope you two are besties now.
I can’t stop smiling. 2 minutes in. You both are so great!
i can’t believe people hate your vlogs!! i rewatch them ALL the time
My two faves… you both are sarcastic witty and so good at the ‘TUBE!!! Hope to see more!!!
*Fantasies Do Come True* . Thank you Ladies. Hope you Gals had a fantastic time together. 🥰
You guys are my top two favorite channels, so seeing you guys together is just the best !
Same!
Ngl I loved the yellow bedroom. Not sure I would like the lady finger bed, but I love the colours and the plants.
For styles, I’ve started referring to myself as an aficionado of the “unfinished” look. Goes doubly so for my diy projects.
absolutely obsessed with this colab 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 Love these two humans together so so much. Hope to see more of this in the future 🙏
THANK YOU! I was wondering if I was the only one who thought that was weird, I went 😎🤏 🤨🕶️🤏
Entertainment gold! Please do this again. The magic is real.
I've been a follower of both of you! This is soooo refreshing to see, hope we get to see more videos like this
1) the round mirror is nice )but not above the bed-too small) 2) the bed/ headboard was elegant 3) the zebra rug could be nice in a different space 4) the wicker is classic and ONE piece at a time is a great nod to British Colonialism -- but IS there anything GOOD in that?? 5) the light fixture in that colorful yellow room is cool 6) the sweep of the staircase was beautiful!
You could have had me on!😂❤
The tiger looked like it was frolicking on turf. I give them props for covering the furniture in big green leaves. It gave a nice little home to the tiger. 😂
Such a DELIGHT to watch you two hang out and chat!! Somehow ended up liking you both even more, which I wouldn’t have thought possible !
This is the collab I've been dreaming of.
I just watched Paige's video, and now I get to watch this one... So happy to see y'all together. 😍 Critiquing homes is exactly the type of video I wanted to see from y'all. 😂
yayyyy the cross over episode we've been waiting for !!!
Have not watched this yet but I am THRILLED for this collab. Love you both!
THE COLLAB IVE BEEN WAITING FOR
Can i just note: when you said you can buy a vintige piece for the same price of a particle board piece, thats only true in some parts of the world where those pieces were popular many years ago. It eastern europe the only vintige pieces sold are ones that are imported form the west, cuz the furniture from the past is heavy duty (but still) particle board soviet modular pieces, sooo yeah. Vintage pieces here are not as cheap as new cheap furniture.
Same here in north Carolina, US. Buying vintage which is in great shape can be extremely expensive and time consuming.
I haven’t even watched the video yet and my mouth just dropped from excitement! My two faves side by side
