The International 5488 Tractor was produced from 1981-1985 at the IH Farmall Work's in Rock Island, IL. On November 26, 1984 International Harvester sold its agriculture product division to Tenneco the parent company of J.I. Case another tractor manufacturer. The new Case International company shifted tractor production from Rock Island, IL to Racine, WI. On May 14, 1985 the International 5488 was the last tractor produced at the Rock Island Farmall Works. - ยานยนต์และพาหนะ

I really like them 88s. I've put plenty of hours on my cousins pair of 5088s running small square balers. They recently picked up a 5288 with FWA and she's an animal,
My grandad used to run some of these tractors in the early 90s and he said it's probably one of the best all around tractors the company ever put out.
I loved that tractor when it came out and it still has those "good looks". Thanks for finding & showing it in action!!

We run a 1982 5288 on a 9 shank CASE soil conditioner chisel plow. We follow that with a 1971 1066 with a 475 International disk. The the 5288 comes again with a 32 foot case international 4300 field cultivator. Then we plant with an 856 and a 6 row case international 955.
Those are the best looking tractors International made! I guess they saved the best for last. Such a shame, you wonder where IH would be today. Would they have taken down the big green giant?
That disc is out of adjustment on the left side there. It's not being fully effective.

I've got the 1/16 Precision Key 5488 FWA in my IH Stash that was modeled after the last tractor built at the Farmall works... It even has the chrome stack!!
Remember it setting it least 2 Nebraska tractor test records One of which was the most dbr hp for a 2 wheel drive tractor
I have a 340 Magnum and it has a few features that showed up on these new tractors from IH.

Im glad that JI Case bought international harvester and if they didnt by it that would of been the last international harvester and the last of big red so im glad they by international harvester just to keep it alive and running with the best tractor's on the planet
The merger kept a parts network in place and new products. You have a good view on the subject.
Fix the front end.....
Front end has a ton of slop and the left side of the disk is not in the ground... great steering wheel operator tho

Nice Big Red tractor for sure! Always particularly liked the IH 88 series. Doing a lousy job of disking though. One whole wing isn't even doing anything! Would do a MUCH better job with a slightly smaller - but heavier off-set disk .. one that's sunk in the ground and actually ripping up something.

Our neighor had 5488 back in the day.
We have 2 5488 4wd and even today compared to the our newer case tractors those things are beasts

Nice tractor but there are some worn out components in the front end.
Lift sides not even risking its riding on top of ground.
I am not sure why. I just excited to see a 5488 up close working.
496 disks are good for that. They have a master/slave cylinder setup for the lift and if the cylinders on the main frame leak of pushes the wings up.
Farm equipment is insane on pricing...there should be a $100.00 printing press that comes with your tractor as"standard equipment".

Nice vid just a cool tractor from the early 80's the whole Case IH merger could have been handled better and wow did that front end look like it was getting light a few times
Quite a unique idea IH had with their cooling system sucking the air down through the top of the hood and blowing it out the front . I know the Magnum was pretty much based off the prototype super series Ih tractors that were in development at the time of the merger . So was design going to be used again ? how come it never moved forward with this feature with any manufacturer ? anyone who owns an 88 series tractor , was this a good or bad feature ?
It was a good a feature. IH built its own engines. Case did not so they outsourced to Cummins. When the Magnum was built they went to Cummins so the IH air flow was out. Today companies like AGCO are building reverser fans on their tractors that blow dirt and debris out every 10 minutes.

I'm a Deere guy who usually hates cases but its always swell to see old equipment. No matter the brand.
This was the magnum....I wish IH could have stayed in business they had a premier line of products with the 88 series and the rotary combines

It is not. I think allot of it is the tires are right in the chisel plow ruts and they probably need some adjustment and tightening.

Our farm has a factory fwd 5488 and 5088. Still looking for a Fwd 5288 to complete the series ;)

Used to have one exactly like this for disking. Eventually switched to a John Deere 8400

In my opinion IH just waited too long! JD had already taken over the tractor and planter markets while IH just kept relying on died-in -the -wool Farmall people to keep on buying updated F-20 versions. It is a shame to. Just before IH woke up and made a change, they spent millions on a brand new tractor facility and came out with really innovative advancements with the 88 series tractors that would have challenged Deere…..but by then we were in our early 80s ag depression era economy and nobody was buying much of anything just struggling to pay bills and buy groceries! IH management just sat too long‼️

That poor guy is just pissing money in the wind! He needs to get someone that knows how to set a plow next time.
Piece of junk probably couldn't pull it if the disk were in the ground.
