Could be, I never had an opportunity to listen to one of these Stanton moving magnet cartridges . In 1978 a hundred dollars of my first paycheck from my summer job went to purchasing a Stanton 681eee. It was the top one at the time. I really do like the sound of that moving iron series(681/680 and some of the L p-mounts) made by Stanton. I never have gone away from them . I've hade many different styli , but of coarse the nude Steriohedron is the best. Currently my Technics SL-7 close"n"play linear tracking record player has a Stanton L747S. Very pleased with the sound quality and the sound stage is wonderful. This was good considering I'm using an aftermarket bonded hypereliptical stylus. Yeah my last low mile nude Steriohedron is put away for reference and those special records. I haven't used it for quite awhile now. That does say something about the aftermarket. It is a shame that someone hasn't bought all of Stanton from Gibson though. The Steriohedron is a unique stylus.
amazing that stanton made such a good cartridge 59 years ago
The 581EL sounds very good, the 981 HZS is altogether more open ,as you would expect
the 981 is excellent in the presence department, like a live performance
981HZS is probably Stanton's finest

Even on youtube the 981 is superior.
