Traditional methods of ski archery demonstrated

- Shooting while skiing is a common winter training method for me, and was an essential asset for the ancient arctic archers. Traditionally skiing was performed with only one ski stick, which leaves the other hand free for shooting arrows. Here we'll demonstrate three methods of tradition pursuing ski archery taking effective shots on the move at 30cm diameter disc as a target.

A very interesting practice.
I saw a bow = a ski stick in the collection of the ethnographic museum in St. Petersburg in the collection "Siberia". (the ring, by the way, is made of leather and, of course, there are no holnitens in the design))) )
It would be interesting to shoot from this... and just like in that video.
So great you've gotten to see a real museum artificat! Yes, surely in the earliest stage there were no holnites. I believe in finno-ugric tradition the ring was mostly made of wood, and attached to with leather.

man I wish I lived near somewher I could practice on skis. I snowboarded for one weekend in Taos New Mexico once and it was super fun but incredibly hard. Im currently practicing horse archery and I LOVE it
Mmm. I'm very fortunate to have this kind of practice grounds around. I've tried snowboarding few times, and for me it seems harder than going on skis.
Nice to hear you've gotten into horse archery too.
Almost any moving archery, including ski archery, is great back up practice for horse archery.

Heh!. Actually the Saami people also had spear type that was made to work a ski stick.

Hienosti ammuttu! Tuskinpa se kovin yleistä oli vauhdista ampua, ehkä muita ihmisiä jos pakko oli. Vai pääsikö sellaisista muinaisista suksista nopeammin irti kuin modernimmista siteistä?
En tiedä miten nopeesti muinaissuksista pääsi irti, mutta ainakaan umpihankiolosuhteissa se ei ole ollut kovin kannattava liike. Jonkun verran on olemassa historiallisia kuvia missä jousta käytetään suksilla, mutta paikaltaan. Uskoisin että liikkeestä ampumista on kuitenkin aikanaan tehty ihan kiitettävästi. Osaltaan tuo suksisauvajousen kehittäminenkin kertoo siitä. Jos on aikaa ampua rauhassa paikaltaan niin kyllä silloin ehtii jousen ottaa vaikka olalta. Viimeisimmässä vaiheessa jousi oli enää oravanpyyntiväline, mutta alkujaan sitä käytettiin niin peuroja kuin petoeläimiäkin pyydettäessä. Näissä tilanteissa uskoisin, että täytyi pystyi ampumaan myös liikkeessä. Mene ja tiedä, mutta onpahan tullut kokeiltua ja harjoiteltua :)
@@UgriArcher totta juu, suksisauvajousi kyllä kertoo aika spesifistä tarpeesta, jotenkin se vaan tuntuu aika hollywoodilta kun vauhdista ammutaan :D hyvää käytännön tutkimusta teet.
@@prowokator Kiitosta. Suomessa kun historiankirjoitus on niin nuorta niin näitä pitää monesti kasata pienistä tiedonmurusista ja kokeilla sitten käytännössä. Muista kansoista kyllä tiedetään, että muinainen, perinteinen jousiammunta oli hyvinkin liikkuvaa sorttia.
