uutiset [uu-ti-set] = news
tv [tee-vee] = television
haastattelu [haas-tat-te-lu] = an interview
kaksi tuntia = two hours
tunti = an hour
pari = a couple of (but also: a pair)
me ollaan = we are (spoken language)
te olitte = you (two or more people) were
jäbä = a dude (a modern slang word)
huutaa = to shout
Just näin! = That's right! / Exactly that!
In each word, the main emphasis is on the first syllable, and most of the shorter words should be "cut in the middle" (e.g. jä-bä, tun-ti, huu-taa).
Also, for most part, Finnish is written as it is spoken. However, Finnish vowels are pronounced differently than English vowels.
a = similar to the British a but "more open"
o = similar to the English o
u = similar to the English u but less "melodic" sound
ä = similar to the American a
ö = similar to the vowel sound in "the" and "girl"
y = it's like an u that you try to say when giving someone a little kiss or "smooch"

@@samstarba4569 Is he talking fast too? It sounds so confusing but also very funny and "vikings like".. It is so mind blowing how many different languages we have in Europe. Most of the time I don't think about it but during Esc so many different countries come together enjoying great music and it is just awesome to get to now new musicians and bands. 👍🏻😊

@@HarvestMoon13 Yes, he is talking quite fast and also in a lively, "unorganized" way (by Finnish standards).
Using hands is actually not a typical part of Finnish communication (or at least I keep getting critique for using too much hands in my speech 😅) but I guess some of us younger people have started doing it more.
About the viking sound:
Based on my understanding, Finnish language has very little to do with vikings 'cause when viking culture was alive, Finland was viewed as a mostly deserted, possibly unsafe area and only few Finns took part in the viking cruisades.
Also, Finnish language is not related to Scandinavian (or any Indo-European) languages so if you understand Swedish or Norwegian, it will not help with understanding Finnish.
An example:
Swedish (or my learner version of Swedish):
Jag gillar finska språk men det kan vara mycket svårt att förstå vad finnar säger.
Finnish:
Mä pidän suomen kielestä, mutta joskus voi olla tosi vaikeaa ymmärtää, mitä suomalaiset sanovat.
English:
I like Finnish language but sometimes it can be difficult to understand what Finns are saying.
