He is a very human, and potentially relatable character, but he is NOT to be admired or emulated except for those above mentioned qualities. He’s also violent, anti-social and downright sadistic towards his enemies (though he might not have acted on that without The Beast of Darkness). Kirito is also brave, loyal, resourceful, determined and strong, but he’s also kind, polite and selfless to a fault. Guts can be thought of as a physical role model, embodying a human’s never ending will to give up and persisting even in the face of overwhelmingly hopeless odds. Kirito embodies the determination to protect those we love and to be respectful and kind to those around us, a more psychological role model. They are both worthy of respect.
Jokes aside, it requires great strength to burden this painful and unfair existence, thus I salute you struggler. For picking your cross, for bearing this curse.
Here's my two cents: People watch these kinds of shows because they want to escape reality. In these worlds, they get to be the hero of the story, make some friends, fight some bad guys and get the obligatory waifu girlfriend. They probably have none of these things in real life, so they try to "transfere" themselves to the main character of the story...which can create some bad habits in their future lives.

Berserk Is probably one of the best mangas to ever exist. Comparing it to SAO is pretty dumb ( No offense tho ) Sao has zero lore. The Mc is a simp who is op and is good just for being good!
While berserk is heavy on lore. The mc is a chad who just wants to survive. Also he barely gets any power ups. In the 364 chapters he got 2 powerups (Berserker armor and Dragonslayer) and he has experienced probably three things that could traumatize people for life

a) If I hear one more person call Kirito a simp, I'm gonna have an aneurysm. A simp is someone who's overly obsesed with getting love or attention. The only person whose love Kirito has wanted (and received) is Asuna's.
b) OP: Kirito is on the stronger side but there's still quite a few times where he's failed, lost or needed other people to save his ass
c) Why is trauma an indicator of how a character is now? That's not how it works.
d) The show is like 1% harem 99% other stuff. If you took every 'harem-ish' line or scene and put it in a compilation, I doubt you'd get more than 5 minutes of content. From a show with 4 seasons.

SAO's (the anime) story is centered around the players, and not the "lore" of the setting which even by their in universe standards and perspective would be entirely fictional. What actually matters and is relevant is the lore of the _actual_ events between the players in the VR world and the real world.

I watched SAO by recommendation of a friend some years ago. It's not the worst thing in existence, but it's very bland.
Guts is a very likeable character who feels very human.
LIKABLE? Seriously? I acknowledge his redeeming qualities in the form of bravery, determination, resourcefulness, strength and loyalty to the Band of the Hawk, Puck, Casca and others he cares about. He is a very human, and potentially relatable character, but he is NOT to be admired or emulated except for those above mentioned qualities. He’s also violent, anti-social and downright sadistic towards his enemies (though he might not have acted on that without The Beast of Darkness).
Kirito is also brave, loyal, resourceful, determined and strong, but he’s also kind, polite and selfless to a fault.
Guts can be thought of as a physical role model, embodying a human’s never ending will to give up and persisting even in the face of overwhelmingly hopeless odds.
Kirito embodies the determination to protect those we love and to be respectful and kind to those around us, a more psychological role model. They are both worthy of respect.
There's a difference between an anime inspired by video games and a manga that inspired other video games

I still don't get the appeal of SAO (and Isekai in general), it's just grossly overrated IMO
Here's my two cents: People watch these kinds of shows because they want to escape reality. In these worlds, they get to be the hero of the story, make some friends, fight some bad guys and get the obligatory waifu girlfriend. They probably have none of these things in real life, so they try to "transfere" themselves to the main character of the story...which can create some bad habits in their future lives.
