I loved my DP2s, the image quality and camera size is awesome. However the low light sensentivity didn't suit my photography style so I sadly was forced to choose a Canon EOS 100D for my current camera. Not as small as my Sigma camera and the imaages aren't as sharp but it suits my photography style much better.
Hehe, the 100D was just too big so I sold it after only owning it half a year. I love my DP2s and I will surely get another SIGMA camera when the DP2s breaks down after years of use.
Hi Damens - Excellent comment. I normally use my flashes at f8 and didn't notice this. I checked now for you and can confirm that 1/2000s is only available at f5.6. A minimum shutter duration of 1/1250s is available at f2.8 and 1/1600s is available at f4. Thanks for pointing this out! Ben
I've been using Sigma DSLR's for years now and I woul'd never give up on these cameras as the IQ is just superb to any other Bayern sensor camera. I use of course other cameras in parallel as it isn't typical "all'rounder" . Sigma and Foveon have something like "magic" look in pictures.. the colours and contrast are somehow deeper not to mention the astonishing details at a pixel level. Sigma has done great job producing this amasing sensor, hopefully they soon catch up with their bodies :)
It's a Nikon SB900 with a non-OEM TTL cable. I use the cable mainly so if the flash drops, it doesn't break. It also ensures I get the 1/2000s sync speed with the DP3m. I only used the flash in Manual mode.
Totally agree with that one should consider them as Medium Format Compacts. If you are doing B&W then you can easily go to ISO 1600 if you like grain with the new 5.5.x SPP.

AF is average, not excellent, but not bad either. From ISO 800 up you want to shoot BW, and the IQ will be excellent. In this article, there is a ISO 1600 BW photo from the DP2 merrill, so you might wanna check it out. outlivingblog.wordpress.com/2014/07/19/some-thoughts-on-the-sigma-dp2-quattro-and-comparison-with-merrill/ IMHO it looks perfect. Consider the Quattro as well. Better battery life, faster AF, slightly higher resolution, but no full color information for each pixel. The Merrill has three full 15mp layers, the quattro has one 20 mp layer and two 5 mp layers. This gives it a slightly different character. For instance, nothing renders clouds quite like the Merrill. Whichever one you choose, they will blow your Ricoh out of the water when it comes to IQ. These Foveon sensors rival the best bayer full frame sensors. The only compact camera I can think of that offers similar or maybe even slightly better IQ is the Sony RX1R2, but it is so expensive that you could get the complete set of ALL Merrills and ALL Quattros for that price.
If it has a 1/2,000 of a second flash sync it must have a leaf shutter - does this mean the aperture needs to be stopped down from F2.8 to get the full 1/2000th second flash sync ? This is the case with the Fuji X-100 where the leaf shutter is not fast enough to traverse the large f2 span at anything more than 1/500th second, whereas if you stop down to f8, the leaf shutter will sync up to 1/4000th second or so.

Were you able to work on them through regular photo programs or did you have to access their program for that too? . I was curious about the quattro's too. Are there jpegs really that horrible? Thanks! Actually I use and recommend the Pentax K1 now, with the Samyang 135mm f2 lens in pixel shift mode the quality really is incredible. But recently I was looking at some of the Merrill photos again and was just amazed at the image quality. How are you finding the Quattro H?
Ben Evans returned my Pentax k1 as it was like a spaceship to me and too large. SD Quattro H also going back today. Too big and not impressed. Will try a dp0 and hopefully that will do the trick.

Thanks, this is almost four years old now. I'd recommend the Pentax K1 over these cameras. Haven't had the opportunity to review the Quattro. Check out the latest videos, the audio is good.

The lenses are fixed primes on the Merrill series. Jpegs are good, quite a distinct look.
