- On our travels on the Kennet and Avon canal, we met a young family who has been living on their narrowboat for 10 years. We were very excited to interview them and we hope you enjoy their unusual life story.

Just ordered the book. My husband and I have work in marinas and lived on a 60ft Narrow boat which had a Gardner 2L2 engine.Sadly we sold it and bought a pub for the family which we ran for 12years then sold it to retire .Still miss out boat We are in our 70's.

My wife & I watch Cruising Alba each week, & kinda look forward to it, plus a couple of other narrowboat vlogs. Myles & Marina create quite a light hearted entertaining vlog. But when I clicked on CA I wondered if I had the right channel. Yes,
the story is good, & we watched it all till the end & waited for Myles to perhaps say at the end: “Marina is in the Family Way” lol Guys we’re all entitled to our opinion right? I just feel I click on CA to watch your video, not someone else’s, yes I can appreciate you giving this vlog a great send-up, but keep it separate from your main “bread n butter”.

With so many boating channels available this was a different, fascinating take on a canal life. I would love to see more interviews like this, no intrusive questions, sensitive videography, superbly edited. One of the best.

What an absolutely beautiful life experience story you guys have shown us. Couldn’t agree with you more, the boating community is full of wonderful people, some I hasten to add are possibly the best I’ve known and so down to earth. Every now and then I drop into a conversation with my wife “ hey let’s just trundle off down the rivers and canals and see where it takes us” think we need a bigger boat my 23ft cruiser stern narrowboat may be a tad small 😊 in the words of Spock from Startrek , live long and prosper………….

Such a beautiful tribute and story! I have a question about schooling and wonder if they will home school their children?
I wonder if CRT understand the emotional impact of choices they enforce regarding boats moving x miles per 14 days... tricky balance for CRT I guess. I would love to purchase a liveaboard unfortunately as boating has become so popular in last year that dream has been pushed further away for now as prices of boats seem to have rocketed.
Funny the very reason we all want to live on waterways may be lost if too many of us have our dreams satisfied.
Maybe with the growing popularity of cleaner, quieter hybrid boats means boating may become tranquil again even on popular waterways.

If you have ever seen Hugh Miles's work with Chris Yates, Bob James and Bernard Cribbins on Passion for Angling you two showed a similar stillness and appreciation for the subject with this video.

Love your vlogs guys and enjoyed this one too. It is wonderful to hear other life stories. However it left me wondering how children cope with a transcient lifestyle once they start primary school.
Had a 46ft narrowboat on the river Avon back from 1996 to 2001, and things were very different then. Very few narrowboats about compared to now, and the community was amazing, now there are just too many boats, there still is a sort of community, but not like it used to be. It used to be a life style choice, now it has become more of a forced way of life due to house prices being so high.
Absolutely amazing life and then children appear and everything changes and priorities change.

Yes we do , we’ve sent quite a few to Australia and so far all arrived safe and in good order
Nice couple, towpath Traffic is due to covid , hardly travelling, boats are for cruising , not bridge hopping . Exploring the system. 2000 miles of canals . Canal lifestyle is the best , great community.
It's probably an impossible to line to cross, but living on the K&A with a family soon to consist of four then the dreaded word widebeam comes to mind..
It does doesn’t it, it’s a question we keep being asked yet the joy of the canal is the moving and the ease of doing this without stress so for now at least this is not an idea we are entertaining x

I found it really confusing that there was no intro from Marina or Miles....kept checking we had the right channel. A nice family for sure but I’m afraid I found it all a bit saccharine. Watched to the end but kept checking how much longer to go. It really just felt like a book promotion.
