    Thank you for the most excellent review / discussion. I learned so much about my new Tilly watching your video. Cheers!

    I've used Tilley hats for over 25 years. Love them. Try this string configuration, With the back slip knots slid together, adjust the front loop to the front brim size. Adjust all the slack to the back side of the hat. Now put the hat on with the front cord on your forehead just below the front brim. Now reach back and separate the adjusting knots on the rear coard till the coard seats just under the crown of your skull. Pull on the hat, it won't come off.
    This will hold you hat on in most heavy winds.
    If need be you can slide the adjusting knots together and use the back strap coard under your chin for maximum hold power. Leave the front cord on your forehead just under the hat front brim. Give it a try. Never to late to learn something new.

    Nice vid! Main reason for the piece of foam in the top of the hat is to make it float when dropped in the water. Also, the chinstrap has two sliding knots at the lace-ends, for adjusting (mine has) so you don't tighten it by pulling at the laces at the side of the hat. Love my Tilley's (1 hemp for summer and the cotton version all year round.) They still are around 80-90 euro's.

      Thanks, I didn't know that. I wil tie the lace different. Mine came like this. They are great. Thinking of buying a cotton version also.

    I have had Tilley hats since 1985. I have had two of this Airflow model. Worst hat Tilley ever made. The brim support, maybe a wire?, collapses and the brim flops down over your eyes so you can’t see. Tilley replaced one of them, but same result. It is unwearable and I wear other hats instead.

    They have a full line of clothes; pants, shirts and socks. The socks cost me 22.00 CAD per pair in 2005. I bought two pair, washed them every night and to have a clean pair every day. They are guaranteed not to cause blisters. I wore them every day for a month and walked miles everyday and no blisters.

    Nice video. The hat still looks good after 14 years. I bought my ltm 5 because we were on a 2 week beach vacation and I needed something to protect my face and neck and ears. I tried different hats at all the stores on the island and then I tried the Tilley hat and I’ve never had a hat fit so good on my head. I wanted the Ltm 6 but they didn’t have a big enough one for my head so i got the LTM5. I wear it everywhere I go outside now.

      I think that is true, but i found that not everything is available and known. At the time I found this hat after a long search. By now there are probably a lot of look-a-likes. Still, I like the tilley hat a lot and it served me well on the West Highland Way this year as well. I love to hear about the alternative hats...

    Is this the pine hat or the olive one? I've been thinking of getting one of those colors or the black one, something that goes with anything!

    • @traveler5898
      @traveler5898  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Matt,
      This is the olive one. When I bought it way back there were only a few colors available. They have much more options now. Do take in consideration that you problably wear the hat in sunny/ hot weather. Black doesn't help much with cooling I think. But maybe it doesn't matter much anyway.

      That is really up to you. I think it will always be a bit of an outdoor color. But I only wear it when I'm hiking and that sort of things. Not as a fashion statement. On top of that i'm also somewhat colorblind. So any advice from me about color is really meaningless. But maybe you can go to a store and check it out in daylight and see what the colors are like. I think a brown or black is safe to go with. Olive is nice but a bit outdoorsy.
      Best of luck.

      I just recently had a very lucky day at a second hand store. They put out 2 Tilley hats. One was a ltm 6 in like new condition. The other looks like T3. Like yours it has no velcro on the inside pocket or message on the pocket. But on the sizing label inside it states "Tilley 7 3/4 , 24 3/8 in, 82 1/2 cm." I can't make out the writing on the label on the other side, washing instructions. well worn. It was in need of a good soaking wash with Dawn dish soap full strength. Its white in color and looks stain free now. They were added to my Tilley collection for a mere $ 8.00 for both. But no velcro or label on pocket, must be a first addition.

    I have the slightly smaller brimmed LTM 5, same colour. I love it in summer, protects you from the sun, also a great hat for hiking. You will still sweat in it a little. The other comment was right, you adjust the front and back strings however you want, usually I leave the front strap looser under my chin and tighter at the back. Or if it's not windy tuck them up top.
