    I’m with you on the hat thing, I never wore hats & alway felt stupid wearing them & having a small head made it worse for fit. But too many times have I burned my head in hot conditions so yesterday I bought a Tiley LTM6 rock face as a functional product rather than fashion.

      @TripAstute  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, the Tiley hats are great. I've since bought a second one (one of their mash-up hats) and it's been so helpful while outdoors. Definitely more functional than fashion, but I think they look nicer than most wide brim hats. 😎

    I am a hat person with way too many hats. The standard cotton Tilly is one of my favorites. I went to the store that sold them and tried on various sizes. I typically wear 7-1/4 but the 7-1/2 was a perfect “loose” fit. My problem is that I don’t want to flatten it to pack so I always have to wear it or deal with it.

    • @TripAstute
      @TripAstute  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, I hate flattening them too, but they seem to rebound fairly well. They are incredible hats -- I've worn mine a lot, and it is still in great shape. 😎

    Going up TWO sizes from the tilley chart was a game changer for feeling cooler with the airflo hats. I measure 22.75" which would be 7 1/4. Too tight, it fit like a normal hat, not how tilley says it should fit. So after wearing a 7 3/8 for a few years, I still thought tilley is just too hot for me. But I tried a 7 1/2. Big difference in warm weather comfort and still looks good on my head, not a sloppy fit.

      I'm glad I am not the only one that feels like Tilly's chart is off. Going up in size really helped me as well. 👍

      I heard that recently as well. It sounds like there have been a lot of changes with the company, which is unfortunate.

    While baseball caps are better than no hat at all, they are really a poor choice for sun protection. They offer no protection for the ears or back of the neck. And of course if you wear the hat backwards like so many numbnuts these days, it offers no protection for your forehead.
    I stopped wearing baseball caps when I was done playing Little League.

    • @TripAstute
      @TripAstute  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I agree. I much prefer a wide-brim hat that offers more sun protection. 😎

  • @anrn5303
    @anrn5303 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    than you so much! I agree with you with loose fitting hat! I had to return my LTM6 because it fits too tight!

    • @TripAstute
      @TripAstute  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah, it's definitely counter-intuitive. I always thought that hats should be snug (like a baseball cap), but wide brim hats are different. 😊

    • @PaulMcCabe
      @PaulMcCabe 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TripAstute Ok this is helpful as the LTM6 I bought is a little bigger than the measurements suggested & I considered going back for a smaller one big think I’ll keep it now. It just sits on my head, not snug but not loose, may blow off in wind though.

    I like the Tilley, but not he mesh. I got no hair and the mesh is not upf rated.

    • @TripAstute
      @TripAstute  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      That makes sense. I think they also make a few models without the mesh venting too.

    The best hat for hot weather is a cotton baseball cap with a rearward havelock. The Japanese used a similar wool one in WW2. The brim shiels your face and helps with your vision. Yes, a dark lower visor helps a lot. There is an option of headgear that surpasses any hat that is really the best. The Berber headdress is superior in every way to a hat. It's just a cotton cloth...but it works! In cold weather, you can use a wool one made from an old blanket.

    • @TripAstute
      @TripAstute  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the tip! Ironically, since having kids, I've gravitated to baseball caps -- mostly because I often find myself with a toddler on my shoulders. While I still love my Tilley hat, it's hard to less comfortable to wear while carrying my little one.

    • @bretthewitt3890
      @bretthewitt3890 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TripAstute Agreed! Children change everything. I also have a similar hat. Its an ANZAC digger type from WW2. Wool is terrible in the heat. It looks great, but I am keeping with the Berber or baseball cap with havelock while traveling. Chin straps are very functional though. Tuk tuk or tricycle rides get a bit breezy! Happy travels!
