You gotta love & respect the guy, because he's willing to teach everyone what he knows, and how to do it. He has the desire to help anyone who wants to play get better, and very personable & unassuming while doing it.
for those that wish to know, the reason why all the bends in the key of C minor fit in the key of A minor, is because when bending all the notes in C minor, it bring the 3rd, the 5th and tonic, all into the key of C major(except for C, which would bend into C# or D). In closing, C is A's relative major, which has a lot of functionality.
Bucket head used to be my favorite guitarist, I don't know how I've gone so many years without hearing this Master class shredder, I learned a lot on my own but this guys videos are super easy to understand, I would be light years ahead if I started learning from this dude.. catching up but will never be anywhere near as good.
It's funny you mentioned that! Paul Gilbert actually was actually Buckethead's teacher and very formative in his development. Bucket talks about it here: /watch?v=otrqEZifHeg
I wish paul was my uncle Jimmy. I love watchin' your lessons Paul, keep up the good work and keep on teaching. We really appreciate all you do for us out here. I do anyway.
Paul you are great as always I never get tired of watching you, always something fresh, new and exciting. I'm so glad you never give up but are a true musical explorer an insperation to every aspiring guitarist you truly are one of the greatest players who has ever walked the planet please never stop attacking that crazy noise maker you do it so well stay cool ! Curtis Fordahl a definite student and fan always, I hope you release another album ! Or at least some new songs preforming with a full band if anybody deserves a place in the rock and roll hall of Fame It's you, you have definitely earned to respect to be honored because of all your life changing achievement's you are always a positive roll model and that is something to be proud of, you make us all want to keep on rocking never a full moment I just want to say thank you in case you don't hear it enough, no really, thank you for just being you .
+Alexander Olson Very true. Malmsteen is a showman, not one bit a teacher at all. His funniest videos are his instructional videos where he shows you how fast he can play.
Agreed till YM passage. YM has an absolutely different composition of shredding and most of the time PG is worse in that aspect. I'm talking about YM Rising Force stuff. But PG is far superior in many other aspects like impro and not so metal stuff. Imho.
Yes I agree PG is far superior , the bonus is he is a great teacher, and thats what makes him more interesting than the same'ol neo shred guy that everybody knows.
as great as malmsteen is, there's something oddly missing in his overall sound. if you don't feel like listening to something that gives you that malmsteen rush, you don't really listen to his stuff. with paul gilbert, i could be in any mood and still want to binge listen to his stuff. also, gilbert is a real artist for not being afraid to evolve and do stuff outside metal shreds. malmsteen is just the same in anything he plays.
Paul thanks for continueing to teach..You are a good teacher...Sometimes I'm looking for just SOMETHING and lots of times I know I can come to a Paul Gilbert video..Or my teacher Greg Howe who no longer lives around my area..bummer...
I find this man so good at teaching his way of playing guitar clear and concise I'm not really into shredding type guitar but no denieing the value of what he says or his techniques thanks Paul
You know, Paul is a really relaxed and enjoyable guitarist. I've been watching quite a lot of his videos to sort of "get into" his playing style and see what he's doing. =P
Actually lots of amazing guitarist love to share their knowledge, its just only a handful have a talent for being able to do so in a way that makes sense to the rest of us haha.
great vid, i need to pause this ,back up too much when trying to get it. but i play with feeling and somewhat stay in the root key and off. i know its not right probably, but i think a have possibility. peace.
u are awsome, but i go by my ear and play with feeling and use my fingers and still need to learn more chords and everything else , but i love your vid ty . peace.
Im convinved paul gilbert is the best guitar teacher ever
+1
+anthony serrato That's where the Buckethead started.
+anthony serrato Guthrie Govan is also great guitar teacher.
*cough*joe satriani*cough*
yup his mind is good
This man is not only a great player but a really down top earth and modest human being....if only all great players could be so cool!
Paul is the greatest guitarist EVER, and one of only a handful willing to share his knowledge!! Thank You Paul...
3:42 "A happy accident of fingering"
...sounds like my Friday night.
beat me to it haha.
I was thinking the same, lol!
Paul Gilbert , cool down to earth guy , really cool dude !! Doesn't suffer from " assholidous / Big Head Syndrome " !
You gotta love & respect the guy, because he's willing to teach everyone what he knows, and how to do it. He has the desire to help anyone who wants to play get better, and very personable & unassuming while doing it.

paul gilbert is so awesome!! he really makes guitar playing/practicing fun.
the most comprehensive way of teaching, excellent tut. thanks
TYVM!! A lesson which doesn't let too much theory get in the way but instead focuses on listening to what you're playing. Well, played sir.
my most favorite guitar player and teacher.
I wish paul was my uncle Jimmy. I love watchin' your lessons Paul, keep up the good work and keep on teaching. We really appreciate all you do for us out here. I do anyway.
My favorite guitar player pg 👍👍

Of all the technically-minded shredders, Paul is the best. He has a fun and expressive vibe about him that I don't get from that Malmsteen fella
+Alexander Olson Very true. Malmsteen is a showman, not one bit a teacher at all. His funniest videos are his instructional videos where he shows you how fast he can play.

Mr. Gilbert is not just a Great Guitarist but looks like he's a Down To Earth person!!! Simply Great!!
a great teacher..
Thank you Paul. You are the man !!! With the Masterplan
I love Paul... He is just tooooooooooooooooo Awsome...
Paul be happy, you are making a lot of others happy, thats your licence. Have a great day.
Occasionally, I jump to any old note at random and make it bend until it fits in the key lol

This guy is just GREAT
Sin duda un genio!!!! con que simpleza logra tanto!!! arriba Paul..... Maestro!!!
Greatest, no. Most likable with amazing chops. YES
Paul thanks for continueing to teach..You are a good teacher...Sometimes I'm looking for just SOMETHING and lots of times I know I can come to a Paul Gilbert video..Or my teacher Greg Howe who no longer lives around my area..bummer...
"A happy accident of fingering" -greatest sentence ever in a guitar lesson
man seriously thanks paul , if it werent for u man i would have never got back to guitar and im inspired more to play and be atleast 10% of u if i can
8 people are unappreciative of great lessons from a true professional with a great attitude. :/
+chisao101 don't mind them
I find this man so good at teaching his way of playing guitar
clear and concise I'm not really into shredding type guitar but no denieing the value of what he says or his techniques thanks Paul
maybe they had an unhappy accident of fingering?
Yeah, he's just awesome, he understood all about music and communication.
You know, Paul is a really relaxed and enjoyable guitarist. I've been watching quite a lot of his videos to sort of "get into" his playing style and see what he's doing. =P
Awesome!!
Totally with you S. Haugen, the bflat is ridiculous!!
He even uses True temperament frets on paper
Paul is the best lead guitar teacher in youtube!..
Master...
He’s highly trained and motivated, with max skills and talent that we all want!
bravo amego paul gilberto s my mentor idol dudes...")

I usually hate shreddy guitarists, but Paul is just so great. He's such a down-to-earth guy.
paul gilbert shreds!!
Woah..! I'm speechless... T_T
TOTALLY ROCKING!
thnx for sharps and flats.. curious creativity!
Guitar guru😎
He actually was Guitar Teacher at the age of 19 and he gave Buckethead some lessons
He also gave lessons to Bruce B.the 2 nd Racer X guitarist
Thanks for video lesson, it was cool)
there is actually theory to the bends... NONE THE LESS! this is a great lesson :)
When he said rhombus I fucking died. That was too funny.
3:08 did his guitar just get censored there? Haha.
Paul rocks.
I thought the same thing.. lol
I've been studying his Racer X Licks since 1988 🏁
it's so funny to learn with paul jajaja who does not learn like that,
thanks for sharing :)
feeling , bending , mix it up, down bends ,up bends , go off.
i actually remember how to play guitar again after watching this. if you're in a slump like i was this will get you ripping on guitar again
Maniacle bend
Wow
true
Paul Gilbert knows his shit!
that sounds interesting (understatement).......
hehe he says to hammer pulloff it sounds smoother then he proceeds to pick each note. ?
paul was fucking with my fog machine in Miami at a gig in 1990.
Actually lots of amazing guitarist love to share their knowledge, its just only a handful have a talent for being able to do so in a way that makes sense to the rest of us haha.
great vid, i need to pause this ,back up too much when trying to get it. but i play with feeling and somewhat stay in the root key and off. i know its not right probably, but i think a have possibility. peace.
If I play with this guitar tone I would think "Crappy trebly garbage" But somehow sounds great when Paul play it
Bayu Mahardhika amazing listening to him with no effects, then when you hear buckethead you get Paul Gilbert on steroids
@@wyattsprague2218 And then, this guy mentioned bucket head...
@@wyattsprague2218 If by "Paul Gilbert on steroids" you mean drunk, sloppy and far less accurate haha.
@ewoxor i agree. no bashing on Paul. It's a bit of a pet peeve of mine, haha.
I now know all of Paul's guitar secrets, I just need those gargantuan size hands of his :(
un guitarrista muy bueno,me gustaria que estubiese traducido al español
a eso es muy interesanto yo lo vi de esa manera cundo tenia 17 años
"A Happy Accident of Fingering"
Sounds like a cool Band Name
u are awsome, but i go by my ear and play with feeling and use my fingers and still need to learn more chords and everything else , but i love your vid ty . peace.
3:43 LOL "a happy accident of fingering" just sounds hilarious to me
He is scary good. But I find it interesting that his volume knob is on the bottom. I've never noticed that before!
hi ty for vid, how do you get that sound. i have a Ibanez AR500 CS 1981 guitar, but is it my amp or i need certain effects. ty. peace
What a great way to play yourself out of a sour note, just bend it to sweetness!
TOK A LOT OF RIGHT HAND MEMORIE
Im just guessing here but could this be a video about guitar excercises :O , By the great GiLBERT
yay 2 licks for the price of 1!
some please tell me what was uncle jimmy's advice, palm mutin from left hand n i couldnt cattch thee other 1,, wich is to b done by the left hand.
Is there more of this lesson?
5:35... Oh man that Bb makes me laugh hard, look to his face...
"I love the sound of that! I just want to bend everywhere!"
Only Paul could say that and sound cool.
Guitar secret: straight pinkies are a recessive phenotype. 3/4 of humans have an inward curve to their pinkies. Paul Gilberts are straight.
In the guitar diagram is the headstock pointing at Paul with the thin E string on top?
I need that white board
what does he say for his left hand? calusus?
Bend it like Beckham!!
I couldn't stop laughing when he bent that B flat really hard to make it work. Lol...
I came down here to say the exact same thing.. Damn you... lol
he actually does that in his lessons so we can hear the notes he plays more clearly ;)
thats what she said.. no really ,she did say that...
Dimebag was good at those weird bends in his music
jgmopar dimebag was good at everything
Yes he sure was. Can not arguee with that
4:50 Paul goes full bucket head
Bending sounded absolutely Queens of stone age-ish.
someone know what kind of distorsion use Paul? I think a fuzz
er, if you buy the dvd you get tab, thats why it says Figure 1C etc..
@guiliano4 okay, so no name of the DVD?
Nope!
The first shapes a pentagon
