  • How to grow early potatoes, in plant pots, on a Patio. Not the biggest return in the world but these 1 lb of new potatoes will be taken indoors, washed, cooked, and eaten as part of a meal for two, within the hour. How fresh is that! This is Home Grown Veg. This is a FREE subscription channel.

hi..yes my 10" pots with the potatoes in are very dry., even thou l water well from the top.so im standing half of them in washing up bowls to get a good watering/soaking tonight, then tomorrow ll take them out and do the same to the other ones. l got l lb of lovely potatoes from a supermarket potato last week and lm going to harvest this Sunday another container that has one 'swift' planted in it. l read today in garden mag that , l can harvest any time from now until July or even later if l wanted to leave them it says ,so l plan on doing one pot a week, making notes to see what yields l get.

Katie Lee Hello Katie. A pot a week sounds good. You can also get an idea of how your watering is going on a week by week basis. Not too wet, not too dry, whatever that means. I have never grown 'Swift', let me know what you get.

Home Grown Veg hi..sorry its 'sharpe's express' l am growing.l mistaken it as not read the label first so was guessing that l had planted 'swift' anyway emptied one pot today & still only got about l lb, l think it was too early, so l will leave my other pots a little longer before harvesting them.

Katie Lee Hello Katie Not to worry, 'Swift' or 'Sharps Express', It doesn't matter. If your getting 1Lb of good quality potatoes from a 10" pot that's an accompaniment for a meal for two. Job done.

Good result considering size of pot. I'm still working out how much water to give mine. How much/often do you water? In old money please? Litres is a foreign weight measurement to me! Understand pints and gallons! 😀

Marina Wilson Hello Marina. If your pots have plenty of drainage, I don't think you could over water them. If the wind is blowing (as it usually is) and the sun is on the pot, they quickly dry out, a bit like washing on the line on a good drying day. Give them 1 pint every other day directly onto the compost then decide if that's too much or too little when you empty your first pot.

Home Grown Veg really useful. However the music is very distracting. Some people are aural. They focus on what they hear. They hear the music and the speaking is overshadowed by that. Nature is full of lovely relaxing sounds. Try a few vids without music:)

A pretty good result from a single small pot, well done!
