    Thanks for sharing Terry. It's great to learn from our fellow gardeners, like Home Grown Veg and Allotment Diary. Thanks to Jim & Dan's suggestions, I also harvest twice from my new potato buckets.

    Terry, very interesting. I never realized you could do this. I guess it is a good thing to have some in containers then, can't wait for the update. The #PotatoInABucketOfStones seems to be doing very well, nature sure knows how to take care of itself. Have a lovely week. Catherine

      When I first saw this I had to try it and the results were very surprising, hope its worth while this time. The potato has done well to work its way through the stones, now will the tubers find room to grow.

    Getting over a pound of potatoes is quite a good score. Now that I understand a little more about potatoes I will try the same. I was just happy last year that I got anything off my potato peel😂
    I'm really excited to find out what you get out of your tiny potato. It's doing well I think for no bigger than it was when you planted it.
    But! Your bucket of stones potatoes makes me HAPPY :-) Have a great weekend Terry and thanks for the update.👍

      Quality not quantity, we see so may people load their compost with fertilisers when a little home made compost and liquid plant foods does the same job. Really pleased with everything thats going on especially the #PotatoInABucketOfStones even William has something to share with us in his next video.

    Well done Terry. I had about the same weight from my first two pots of kestrel. The last five weeks of good weather have made the tops grow and flower but we still need a few more weeks before the yields improve.
    All the best

      They were a good size for me and if I can get 3 pound in two attempts then thats good for me and I will get them before they get too big, quality not quantity and no cost for added fertilisers.

    I was just telling William, taht I started preping the bed I'll be planting out my leeks in and here I find a few potato leaves breaking ground... dug them up and gound 2 pounds of red potatoes... we haven't grown reds in the last 3 years... and I replanted the sprouts in another bed.

    I thought of doing that Terry, but in the end I decided that the empty tubs and compost were more valuable for my next succession of tomatoes and squash than ‘yet more’ potatoes as I probably already have more than enough. I’ve not grown butternut squash in tubs before, but my wife likes to pick baby squash in July and August so that’s the intention, leaving the ones in the main bed to mature. : all the best - Steve

    • @terrykingsallotmentgardening

      We don't eat many potatoes so by taking the harvest now will stop them getting too big so this way suits me and to get the same again is always worth while, love steemed little potatoes. All the best with the squash.

    hi Terry, do you find your overall harvest is better or heavier by lifting it, taking what potatoes are ready and then replanting for a second harvest or do you just get bigger heavier potatoes if you leave it alone. I've found that swift grows extremely quick, in as little as 10 weeks and would be good for doing this with plus I think swift is the best early potato for flavour.

    • @terrykingsallotmentgardening
      @terrykingsallotmentgardening  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The longer I leave it they will get to big as to how I like them, tomorrow will be day 95 so we will see how much more weight they have gained. My intention is to harvest while they are small, quality not quantity and replanting normally gives me another 1lb of potatoes. Never tryed Swift so I will try those next year, many thanks for commenting.

    Excellent as always. I've used those bags. Here's a story. Some folks had a house growing cannabis. The police raided and the skip was full of these fabric pots. So I took about 30. Very useful.
    Readers can you help. I'm helping a mate out on his allotment. It's a mess really. left overgrown. He's allowed me an area to cultivate. We have the usual weeds plus this damn horsetail weed. Its seems everywhere and couch grass bind weed. I think all I can do is till my area, dig it up and add plastic. Any suggestions. What would Terry do? Any advice appreciated.
    Really love the cleanness of Terry's patch. It's upsetting when people can't be bothered to keep their patches clean, let weeds go mad etc. I guess people are working etc.

    • @terrykingsallotmentgardening
      @terrykingsallotmentgardening  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello Simeon, Terry would dig until he couldn't dig any more, at home we had horse tail and we stopped it with thick plastic and stones which you will see on my #GardenMakeover update which I will do soon. Nothing to stop you putting thick plastic down, moving the soil onto the plastic, let the horse tail grow ond fill your bags or containers.
