    I've just found this tutorial, 5 years later. An absolutely brilliant idea and thank you so much for sharing it with us, best hinge I've seen so far.

    This is an awesome way to make your hinges. I'm the kind of person who gets a bit carried away when I make my pages and this will work perfect for my albums! Thanks for sharing your talent with us!

    What a great idea of using 'adjustable hinges' rather than ONE set hinge width!! That way it accommodates all page types....genius Tamra!!!!! Love your original adjustable hinges idea!!!

  • @CherylSandoe
    @CherylSandoe 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Such a GREAT idea...it's really an "on demand" and "flexible" hinge system. This allows for more creativity as you are making your pages and decide to 'change-up' from what you originally thought you were going to do...you can adjust the hinge to accommodate....and as you mentioned, you can make these up ahead of time...thanks so much for freely sharing!

      I appreciate you sharing this tutorial- it really is an awesome adaptation. But I also don't fault anyone who charges for their labors- this is intellectual property, after all. I appreciate all of you crafters who share, whether I pay for it or whether I find something online that's free and I can adapt to the project I am working on.

      @@karoldixon6763 Amen Janet Nicholls. It's not really a matter of faulting someone or not, but what do you do when I found myself watching King's patented hidden hinge system for the first time perhaps a few months ago, never knowing there was a name for folding paper in the shape of a 'U' & gluing it to the spine , let alone that there was a patent on it that I must pay to use if I ever wanted to make an album with the same "patented hinge" for sale. AFTER I watched her video, I went to find a particular book with the identical "patented hinged" system I made yrs ago way before I ever knew there was a name to the way I folded & glued a piece of paper to a spine, to claim that it was her original system & all must pay to use it commericially, especially if you're just selling album here or there like most etsy sellers, not mass producing them &, not even making enough to pay to use her patent, how to you reckon with that? If she wants to claim it's her original system which she had invented ( though a few might disagree), which she had first invented fine, but reality is, it's a very common way to fold and glue a page to a spine, and it's bound to be done without people even realizing it's a violation of her intellectual property rights, & that's what happened to me. The US is one of the last countries to do this but there used to be an official differentiation between "first to invent" & "first to file", but because it's just too troublesome to prove in court, our country did away with first to invent,, giving the original inventor no rights whatsoever, & the power now solely belongs to the "first to file" party. I know full well that I didn't invent that fold, what I CAN say is that she is the "first to file" a patent & officially claim that is it her original invention, for THIS particular design of a hinge.Thankfully that book was not made for sale, but I can see how I could have been in hot waters without ever even MEANING or KNOWING that I'm infringing on her rights. I was just making a book without thinking twice about it , because I was sure, MILLIONS of people havebeen folding paper in the same way for the purpose of gluing it to the spine of a book.

    ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️I can easily see “Tammy Merrill’s Custom Hinge and Gusset System” being taught in many future mini album tutorials. This is brilliant and certainly part of the evolution to making better albums. Thank you for so unselfishly sharing your idea and knowledge with us. Also, I hope you don’t mind my nicknaming it for my brain could better associate this title with what all it actually does (yes it expands, but at times it can contract too, depending on individual needs). 🤓 Kudos to YOU!!!

    I am so new that this is a bit over my head! I have made two wedding albums by studying Jenofeve Designs, and Shellie Geigle, I have watched quite a bit of your instructional videos and it always encourages me to continue on and just get better! I now am going to make a few of these just to try to see if I can do it without my traditional mess and redo! Thank you so much Tammy you make It seem so simple!!

    Tamra you are outstanding genius! When do you sleep?😁 I am ecstatic for this grand idea of yours! My pages always lay flat but always needed this for my thick or thin pages!! You need credit for this great hinge! But you always have been a genius!
    This hinge is fantastic! Put the rest of the hinges to bed!😁Just look at you put this out here and didn’t cost you a arm and a leg or attorney and patents! 🤣🤣🤣Great job, Tamra!

      Wendy Sierra I’m surprised “she” hasn’t taken out a patent on this, as she seems to think she develops things that have been in use for years. Just because it’s not on TH-cam, doesn’t mean it hasn’t been done before.

    Thank you so much for sharing your new brainstorm with us! I think it is brilliant!!! Scoring every 1/8 inch eliminates the math and having to start over because I scored wrong. I made a sample binding after watching your video yesterday. It was perfect and extremely fast to make. Due to a major illness I haven't crafted or made books in about 2 years. I'm now at a point I can start again! Can't wait to use your binding system in my next album! I made a Christmas album (12x10) and decided on doing a coptic book binding. I subscribed to your channel! Your other video's are awesome!!! Laurie

    This is great! I think it would work equally well with scoring 1/4 and just figure out how many you need for each hinge and space between and easier on my fingers. lol, I was able to work on a baby album today after quite a while. The piles of paper are calling me. Got my goody mail today from CCC and am so wanting to dive in.

    Oh my gosh, I'm so glad you shared this video. I'm new to scrapbooking. yesterday when I was making the typical 1/2 hinges I was wondering why they have to be that size and can I just put all the score marks from my board and use them based on the pages. Now the black cardstock I'm using isn't cata bella and that's the reason I didn't try it out. But I do have Carta Bella & Parklane #110 I will definitely do this since you proved the theory. Yay & Thank you! Where can I find out information about the Ohio retreat?

      Laura Denison's binding is great too. I've used it several times, the only difference is that her accordion hinge system didn't have the spacing in between the pages like Kathy Orta's. But both women are mavens in the mini album world and so are you.

    • @MsVynette
      @MsVynette 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tammy Merrill Just do you pages first then you make your spine to suit your pages ? Score only where you need your hinges and score for whatever size gusset you need ? Never make your spine first. Always make your pages first then your spine and covers to suit your pages. Just the way I do things.

    • @countrycraftcreations
      @countrycraftcreations  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Vynette I always make my pages first, then my hinges. that is how I get the size I need to cut my chipboard for my albums. I never make the spine first. This way I can adjust the gusset size between my pages and allowing for more chunky embellishments on some pages and less on others

    • @MsVynette

    I enjoyed your tutorial very much. Could you please let me know if the you scored for the concertina is standard card stock or some thing with a bit more reinforcing. Sometimes when i use normal card stock it tends to tear or is weak on the score and fold lines. Thank you Jenny E.

    I'm a fan but I think scoring at 1/4 inch would do it as well. I just dont plan my pages in advance like this so I would have no idea of what to put where. Any hints on that? I always make my books first and then do the pages. Thanks for everything you dp. You are a wonderful creator and teacher.

    • @countrycraftcreations
      @countrycraftcreations  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hope Eisman Thank you. My advice, Try the 1/4 in scoring and see how you like it, it might be another fabulous way to expand on our hinges. That's what I love about working with paper we can do so much with it and then build on each other's learning experiences.

  • @HOPELOOSJE
    @HOPELOOSJE 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Why every 1/8. You can do the math on forehand and only score where you want to fold. So score 1/4 than 1/2 and than 5/8 etc. So its the same as the original hinge system. Adjustable is just some gussets are wider.

      You may have to. I stick my ruler down inside the pocket to determine the size, you may have to take 1/4 inch off

  • @janeywescott8850
    @janeywescott8850 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Do you completely decorate and embellish your pages before placing onto your hinge?

    • @countrycraftcreations
      @countrycraftcreations  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, I do mat and decorate a little before putting the pages on the hinge. I usually know where I am going to put the chunky flowers, charms things like that but I don't glue them down until after they are on the hinges. But you can pretty much bet that with a 1/2 inch gusset only your pages with flowers need more room so they don't smash

  • @loriryan7835

    So do you make your pages and embellish before you decide how to plan your hinges and gussets?

    • @countrycraftcreations
      @countrycraftcreations  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I do make my pages first and will do flat embellishments. On some albums I know that I want a lot of flowers or chunky items but I don't put them on the pages until after I put them on the hinges.
