Here's the video about Granny getting foundered: • Foundered in Appalachia
Video about chocolate gravy: • Chocolate Gravy and Bi...

I love listening to the elderly talk about times past. As a child I would listen to them talk while the other kids were playing. My grandma would tell me all about her life and her grandparents who were from Ireland, I would listen to her for hours. Having time with them is truly a blessing.

One of the things I've always been happy with is the time I spent listening to Grandma, Grandpa and all the other old people talk about their life and times gone by. They were and are a priceless treasure trove of information.

What a precious lady. You're so lucky to still have her around. I miss my mama so much. I'm 63 & this past December 3rd she's been in heaven 20 years. Used to love to sit & listen to mama & daddy talk about their lives & stuff. I could sit for hours & listen to them even though I was a kid. Blessings to your mom, you & your family, Tipper! This is a moment to treasure, especially when you have photographs, you are so lucky to have this! My grandparents perished long before I was born, but I did have a great grandmother, she was 98 when she died in 1977, I remember her having two kitchens in her house, one for dairy, and the other one for meat, and saying Jewish prayers over us at night when us little children would go to sleep at night in front of one of the fireplaces, I will never forget my ti es there as a child!

I love hearing from the Grandladies about how life was back in their days. I was fortunate to know my Great-grandma, Marianna, we called "Babcia" (Polish for Grandma), and me and my sister, back in the late '50's & 60's would spend summer weeks with her & her daughter, my Great-Aunt Veronica and her husband, Uncle Bill. My Aunt was a very good cook, and I learned to make pie crust from her. Your Granny and Pap were such a handsome couple. I liked her place mats, the stitch and her colors that she chose to match her curtains! I like that she pays attention to detail like that! I'm 68 and I like that way of matching things! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️You're both get 5 Stars!❤️

The laughter that we shared and the feeling they were stars being interviewed was almost overwhelming. I interviewed two sisters together, and I have never laughed so hard at each of them trying to outdo the other. Wonderful memories and histories for generations to look back on. Thanks again...Love it!

This is wonderful. It's so interesting to hear her stories and thoughts - especially in the last few minutes of the video. When you ask about the convenience of the grocery store vs. doing it yourself. "Some people don't can nothing." = a wonder in her voice like "how can they survive like that?" - "It's a lot of help in the winter time" = canning helps her provide for her family - "I just mostly make homemade soup and green beans" = and then you name several other items she cans hahaha - "So many of them have to work" = like she doesn't??? hahaha - Thank you for saving and sharing this conversation!

Granny puts me in mind of my precious great grandmother on my Mom's side. Everybody in the family called her Mommy. Mommy used to tell us about what it was like when she was growing up. Mommy was a cook in a nearby school as well. She was well loved by the school kids. Fascinating to listen to what times gone by were like, especially in Appalachia. Times were hard, but in some ways they were better than today. Pap telling Granny he'd teach her to cook was so sweet! All that good cooking in your family was passed on from generation to generation and that's rare these days! ❤❤❤

Both of my grandmothers taught me how to make biscuits. Both were from Eastern Tennessee. My grandma on my mothers side made water biscuits...grandma on my fathers side made buttermilk biscuits. I used to make them for my wife and children at least twice a week on weekends and occasional weekdays. Of course, I included sausage gravy and eggs. It was always a debate which was better. I am partial to the water biscuits because I spent more time with grandma on my mothers side...but both were really good. I have slacked off since my children got married and moved away. This video has convinced me to start making both types again. I'm the only one in my family that can pass this along. Thank you for this channel...you are helping people like me understand the importance of passing along what we have been taught by our Appalachian families. It includes much more than biscuits, as I'm sure you know.

Growing up I was tight with all of my grandparents. Not many people can say they had one grandma who was born in the mountains of Norway and the other was born in a covered wagon in the Cherokee nation of Oklahoma. My Norwegian grandma skied to school. When she was two, her father made a pair of skis for her. I had cousins who hardly knew our grandparents and often ask me how I got so close and had so many stories of them and the struggles and joys of their lives. I just was interested in their lives and what it was like growing up. Just listen to them young people! Granny is a jewel, Tipper. My wife never learned to cook and couldn't even turn a stove on when we got married. I taught her what my mother and grandmothers taught me and she turned out to be one of the best cooks in the family. Love this channel.

I was born at home i was born in a very small town in the Sao Miguel Azores. My grandmother was the mid wife in my little town. there was no electricity there at that time .I was almost 4 when we came to America in !966. have been here ever since. Your stories of Appalachian reminds me of the old country. Loved listening to granny! Such a beautiful family.

Oh my gosh!!!! I just watched granny and I totally love her already! I love the way she fondly remembers her mother’s cooking! She seems like such a sweet lil Angel! I miss my mother terribly! I live 16 hours away from her and the rest of my family. I haven’t been in the same room as my sister in 6 years and it’ll be a year since I seen my mama in August. Prayers to all of you. Maybe we can see more granny videos sometime! 😃

I’ve listened to this three times so far. Granny’s voice is so sweet and it makes me feel like I’m listening to my grandmother. She passed away in 1998 and I still miss her so much. I used to love talking to her about when she was young, and my biggest regret is that I didn’t do it more.
I’m so happy to see that you’re taking every opportunity possible to find out all you can about your family and your heritage. Conversations like this are extremely important for all involved. Your mother is a very fortunate woman to have such a lovely daughter and granddaughters who dote on her like you all do, and you are fortunate to have such a sweet woman like Granny in your lives. ♥️ Thank you so much for sharing this wonderful lady with us!

Nice to see all those old photos and to hear Granny reminisce. It's always helpful to be reminded that nobody is born a great cook, even if he or she's lived long enough to have perfected a number of recipes.

Your mother reminds me so much of my own late mother. It is a blessing you still have her. By the way we grew up at the bottom of the mountains in the northern part of Spartanburg County where most of the peaches grew. My grandpa had an old flat bed Ford and he would take them up to North Carolina and sell them. He called it peddling peaches. He would say I am going up above Asheville to peddle some peaches, Sometimes he would take some of the grandchildren to go along and help him sell them door to door. Coming back home he would go down the Saluda mountain and say we are gonna save some gas and knock it out of gear and coast. There was one curve called dead man's curve and it always scared the grandchildren. Maybe your family got some of those Campobello peaches. It's a small world.

This made me tear up. She reminds me so much of my great grandmother, Eva. I’d give anything if she could be here to see how I turned out. I know I’ll see her in heaven. But, I’d give anything to talk to her now. Thanks for documenting all of this - it means the world to me. God bless you.

I balled like a baby hearing your granny. I miss mine so bad. She was wise without a formal education, she was strong at 5' 2" and 100 lbs. she loved us when most of us did not deserve it. I wish for every person on earth to have an Appalachian granny.

I just loved watching and listening to this video! Your sweet Granny reminds me so much of my late Granny (1908 - 1995) in so many ways! I'm so glad you're able to document these things....record these "interviews" and save that information for generations to come. I wish so much we'd had the good sense to do this with my Granny, but we did not. Treasure every minute you have with her! God Bless!
