My purge valve only works when I apply power from an outside source. I let it warm up for 20 minutes and still wouldn't activate. But as soon as I hook it up to a 12v battery I hear it open and pull vacuum. Trying to chase down a p0440 that I've had for years now.
I change the purge valve thinking it wasn't working so i put a new one on thinking it will solve the problem,i waited until it warmed up and i still didn't get that vaccum as you mentioned.i put both purge valves on the bench and tested them and they opened when i applied 12v.seems like maybe im not getting power to the purge valve how can i test this
The computer will send the purge valve a signal to the open at some point. I would use a meter and check for open/short (bad connection) in the wiring.
I would test the wires with a meter. One wire should have 12 volts for power, and the other wire goes back to the computer. If there is power, then I would test the wire back to the computer for an open. (If there are other codes, like a bad engine coolant sensor, that can also cause an issue.)
GRACIAS 👍
Even after warm up mine is silent, no action, some say that's normal on most vehicles but Tacoma may be different
Great video..... Thanks
Thanks was it throwing a code?

@@HVAC_Mechanic to do that i need to have the terminal plugged in the purge valve or remove the connector and test it?
I have same issue. Have you figured out what's wrong yet?
I also have the same issue. Hoping the ecu isn't the problem.
I've changed the purge valve three times and the harness to it why would the purge valve still not be opening after warming up?
