One of the things I like best about this series is discussion of the business side of the guitar and music store industry. It's tremendously educational. No place else tackles this topic.
They were coming into markets with larger stage shows than others, complicated rigging and electrical needs. If there were brown M&Ms in the dressing room, then that was an indicator that the venue/promoter wasn’t detail-oriented and there could be serious safety concerns.
It’s called a shit test. Women do it all the time to gauge all manner of different things. Employers do it. I do it in certain situations as well. Very effective.
I work in coatings and wood finishing. PLEASE never stain Rosewood. Unless it's been chemically damaged please don't. It's got all the colour it needs to look good. Most dark stains tend to make it muddy looking. Most toner stains and dyes tend to give it no favours in looks either. It's a dark wood and dark wood looks horrible when you stain it. Stick to Linseed Oil or similar finish, and just enjoy how it ages. Chef's kisses.
Thank you, Phil for all you do! You spoke of playing guitar during the week, my original bass player from the band I played in starting 50 years ago came back to New Jersey from California. Of the 6 of us (lead guitar, rhythm guitar, bassist, drummer, front man/singer, and trumpet/keyboard (Hammond organ/Leslie, Rhodes, ARP Strings and MiniMoog), 4 members of the band were 18+ years old. This allowed us to play in places that sold alcohol. At the time, I was the keyboard/trumpet player and along with the drummer we were at the time 14 years old, working Friday and Saturday nights at the same place for 3 months at a time and making $50.00 a night and playing 3 sets each of 40 minutes of music. Those days are long gone and clubs with live bands is few and far between. So, now we play for ourselves and our families. But, we are still here 50 years later. The point being that in music, age means nothing. The love of playing an instrument (I first picked up a guitar 14 years years ago when my son gave me 2 guitars when I was in the middle of recovering from a long illness). The guitar bug bit me and I love playing the instrument, I still love playing keyboards and trumpet, the point being that music, whichever instrument one might play, is a lifetime endeavor.
💯percent correct! I’ve been playing guitar for over 50 yrs and made 1,000s of pawn shop laps shopping for gear. I’ve only seen 1 or 2 Fernandez guitars in all that time … however I’ve bought 4 Fernandez Sustainiac pickup kits to hot rod some Telecasters and I love them🎸😎
That Marcus Miller Breakdown/ Slap Bass video is the most fascinating video I've seen lately! Thanks for highlighting it and thank you for doing this podcast weekly for 7+ years now!
Fernandes were hard to come by in the US. Fernandes was more popular in japan and had artists playing them. Few people know about fernanedes and if they did they assume its was a low budget brand.
Fernandez was making Strats better than Fender in the 80s... or wasnt until Fender was sold by CBS and people who cared more about the guitars got involved... for the most part anyway. I bought a vintage late 80s "Fiesta Red" Fernandez at Norman's Rare Guitars for $400... best $400 I ever spent on a guitar! I call out... Fernando, the most interesting guitar in the world! 😎🎸🤘
I had an instructional video from over a decade ago, which had a guy playing a Fernandes. It looked and sounded really great, and I’ve wanted one ever since. But, in all these years, I’ve never seen one for sale! Don’t think I’ve seen anyone else playing one! These guitar companies constantly shoot themselves in the foot, because they don’t get the guitars out there.
Tell Billy Joe Armstrong, Kirk Hammet, Robert Trujillo, and Robert Fripp that. As for hard to find? You have an internet connection, I'll assume - since you're using this platform. I've bought three Fernandes instruments in the last 12 months. They blow Fender and Gibson off the map. The frustrating thing is Fernandes' debt is about what one of the artists I named - for all of whom Fernandes builds custom instruments - earn in a week.
I remember seeing them in ams and musicians friend catalogs alot around 2k. They only had like 2 or 3 models tho. All kinda boring strats. But they had the sustainer and that was like coolest thing at the time lol.
Squier is an amazing brand for the cost. Jack Pearson uses these as his guitar of choice for most of his live performances. He could probably get endorsements for any brand he wants and has other guitars at home that he likely uses for studio work, but his stage instruments are stock squier and he sounds amazing.
Thank you, Phil. It's been a crappy summer - I lost my mom to brain cancer and now I've got Covid pretty bad. All I can do is watch videos. This took my mind off of the nasty symptoms for two hours. Much appreciated.
Thank you, Phil! Listening live today made a "Typically Hellacious" task on a BMW X5 AWD significantly less-so! Unfortunately, there was still too much "Task" left @ the end of the Show😭 I too, check ALL "vintage" MIJ entries on Reverb daily! Only recently did I discover that Fernandes had NEW PRODUCTS!! Yeah, WHO KNEW?? AIO Guitars DOES offer an XLNT Modern/Update on the MIJ Fernandes MA-55 design (one of my faves). The Beat Goes On!!
Phil, in my humble opinion has the right voice to pursue a side gig doing voice work in radio/TV advertising or public announcements. So smooth and calm with a soothing quality. She could announce a giant asteroid headed for Earth and it wouldn’t Incite any panic-so chill. 😬. Kinda like a late night DJ of old on a rock or jazz channel. Your a lucky man to have her help you with all of your endeavors-she supports your preferred obsession/profession and GAS, handles your merch sales and shipping of them, does all the other things to help keep your household running smoothly and then happens to have that voice for intro to your podcast. Man, sometimes the generosity and understanding of women is simply astounding. Kudos man-you are a lucky guy.
I remember back in the early 2000s my favorite band at the time ( Norma Jean) was sponsored by Fernandes and I went out and bought a revelle. It was like a swoopy looking les paul. It was a beautiful guitar but the electronics were a little wonky, but still a part of my life. RIP.
Referring to the question about humbuckers in a guitar with P90s… Dimarzio make P90 sized humbuckers. In my opinion that’s the quickest easiest solution and also I really like the sound of dimarzio pickups.
@@mikeomatic9905 thank you because I didn’t know that. I really love that filtertron sound. I usually would prefer the more higher gain sound of the dimarzios but for a lot of applications that filtertron sound would be perfect!
I learned most of what I know about electric guitars and building them from watching you tube guys like you, Dylan and many others. resulting in my extreme built of a total over the top Strat.. and more projects to add to my collection coming. more to come. next will be a classic design Esquire. learning even more from each build as I go.
I always think of Dave Kushner from Velvet Revolver. He played a Fernandes single cut in that band. Back then I wondered why he did that. I still wonder that, lol
Does anyone know Godin’s marketing strategy? I keep waiting for the hammer to fall as it did with Fernandez. I have four beautiful older high end Godin’s that will be bequeathed to my kids. No intentions of selling them. I just do not understand why they continue to push out new models at prices comparable with Fender. For instance the Alex Lifeson S style at almost $5,000.00 Canadian with tax is in the Fender Custom Shop range. I can almost guarantee the resale value in two years will be half that. As a Canadian, I want to see a Canadian guitar maker do well but I am flummoxed by Godin’s drive to compete dollar for dollar with Fender and Gibson. I have owned and sold both Fenders and Gibsons and only took a marginal loss. Still have one of three Strats left which will stay with me. I would love to see Godin focus on possibly 3-4 models and not flood the market with mutant versions continually. Survival over quantity.
Godin makes great guitars. Gibson wishes they made guitars as nice as Godins but Jimmy Page and Eric Clapton and Slash and everyone and their Mother didn't play Godin so it's not a brand anyone in the USA cares about
You are absolutely right about used Fender and Gibson prices. My 2009 SG Faded Special is worth the same as I paid for it now. My 1973 SG Standard is also worth the same now as I paid for it in 2013.
@Ira88881 well, gear used gear prices have been crazy. I think they are starting to fall now, so you may be right, but the amounts I see people asking are not far off from what I paid for my 2009 when it was new. Prices got ridiculous because people were paying them. 😂
Such a great point on the Fernandes guitars.. the only thing I can remember about them is the sustainer... And even then I dont know if its the same company, if they still make it, etc.
Fuss over the top like that a lot. ill be using my thunb. I got a dan electro mod 6 in green had many dam electros they are fun guitars.blastors are great
I agree on the Fender Rumble amp I have one that is more than enough for at home, and even many jamming scenarios And on top of the sound, they are so light and easy to move.
I tend to agree, I had a Rumble 25 and now a 40A. Great lightweight amps with a very good tone. However, the cabinetry construction/design left me underwhelmed, where after a while I found internal glue joints would weaken with heat, producing an annoying cabinet buzz across the tone spectrum. After much diag work and different attempts, I had to resort to sinking 1 1/2" drywall screws into various locations to solve things. Works fine tho ! Recently I picked up a Hartke 75W amp at a deep discount - Thats a solid amp that produced a smooth, powerful sound superior to the Rumble but it weighs in at close to 50 lbs.
I remember when Fernandez strats still had Fender headstocks. I'm surprised they've lasted this long since having to change that. The sustainer could have used a refresh too considering Sustainiac were able to do the same thing in a much smaller, simpler install.
23:20 the reason why FGN is probably not pushing hard is probably for the same reason Cort isn't pushing as hard as you'd think they would. FujiGen has a lot of contracts with many other brands (most notably Ibanez Prestige and Fender Japan's JV line) and make far more guitars for them than they do their in-house FGN brand. FGN is pretty much relegated to the same position Cort is for Cor-Tek (who also make more guitars for other brands than they do for themselves). That being said, I've got a couple of them myself (as well as a few of the ones they make for Japanese Domestic brands like History and Cool Z), and they're awesome. You could probably score an FGN JOS for around half or less the price of a Ibanez Prestige AZ and get roughly the same guitar without the Ibanez brand mark-up (or Ibanez exclusive Seymour Duncan Hyperion pickups, they're usually SD JBs). Same thing with a Cort and a Premium AZ.
About TIM'S winning picture taken in Hong Kong for any who are curious. Native NYC son here now based in HK so I know for sure. :) His picture was taken from across the body of water known as Victoria Harbor from the district area known as Kowloon, perhaps specific neighborhood of Tsim Sha Tsui. The view of the camera is towards the south looking at the main, generally most famous portion of the Hong Kong island urban skyline. To use USA, New York City perspective, his shot would be similar to one taken from Brooklyn or Jersey, looking towards the Manhattan skyline. The district neighborhoods the shot shows over his shoulder of Hong Kong island includes parts of Central, Admiralty, Wanchai and Causeway Bay. Tim, if you're somehow still in HK and you see this, hit me up here lol. Let's go have some beers and I'll show you around HK a bit :) Cheers and congrats!
I bought a Heritage 154 with upgraded woods in 1996 and it is a total work of art. I also own a Gibson R8 and Really like it. A Gibson is a Gibson. BTW, I like made in USA guitars (and other items) the best.
But Burny Fernandez is still going strong in Japan, their home. Burny especially is very popular and well associated with Hide from X JAPAN and other domestic artists. They didn’t translate to other markets.
Got to watch this live!!!! I'm happy! Hmm, I wonder if I can sue PRS for using my surname on their McCarty guitars too? 😆😆 Phil, don't apologize for telling your personal stories; the Metallica story was quite fascinating and entertaining. 👍
I had no idea Fernandes even made their own guitars / wasn't a Walmart brand these days or something. I remember back in the early 90's some of their bass models were nice... I wanna say Japanese or Korean made? Other than that I never really remember them making anything really noteworthy. I remember tons of cheap 80's Strat and Super Strat clones
I agree re Josh Scott and JHS. His TH-cam channel is entertaining, informative, and he is funny anecdotes authentic. It creates a warm glow for his pedals
Hey Phil, the srings on my Les Paul 59' Reissue are sounding bad. do I just throw the guitar out or do I need to recycle it, if so what bin do it put it in?
Gibson does a 12 month revenue of 700 million. So, I don't know what that means as far as market value or debt held, but they do 700 million in business for a 12 month period according to what ai could dig up.
From u.k. I had it bad, bought! Sold, gave away! A few high end, I should have kept! I had a rush of blood one day! And got rid of them all! It felt great! I just have an ADMIRA classical now. And an ALHAMBRA classical that I leave In DADGAD. Just saying.
I hated Metal Church then I saw them open for Metallica in Frankfurt Germany I think in 86. Jason was new and it was the master of puppets tour. Anyways Metal Church slayed. Been a fan ever since. Metal Church, Metal Church is one of my favorite all time albums.
I'm thinking Tokai could have a case against Gibson - look up Talbo Blazing Fire, a guitar they came out with in the eighties. There's definitely a similarity to me. Fair enough, Gibson may have had the design earlier, but they didn't even know, so did nothing with it!
Speaking of Japanese made guitars, have you tried a Vola yet? I bought a used one and shortly after bought a new one from their site as they had a great deal going on
Interesting comment about Boss pedals. I have a Boss GX100. It is a great sounding pedal at a great price point. Waaay more flexible and functional than the HX Stomp. But NOBODY has any idea. Get it together, Boss.
I had the same S2 singlecut semi hollow Played nice, and was comfy as hell with its light weight. But sonically, it was just lacking; unplugged or otherwise - when compared to my 10+lb core 2000 singlecut. Nice guitar either way, but it was missing “something”
Phil. We love your channel, and we know how frekin smart you are just by how carefully you try to convey your thoughts and choose your words... Great analysis on JHS vs. Boss youtube approach and Boss's lost opportunity... Similar to how the HX Stomp surpassed the Boss GT100 / 1000 in user interface and form factor.
The good thing about Josh, is he doesn't just stick to his pedals. He delves into the history of the circuits. He discusses the pedals that came before by Boss, EHX, DOD/Digitech and MXR, as well as others and he promotes the origin brands as well as some of the budget options that people who would never spend the money for a JHS or Wampler pedal would be interested in. Josh's channel is good for the whole guitar effects industry. Fernandez failed because they didn't market themselves. I hadn't heard from them in 15 years. The last artists I heard using them were the guitarists for Rob Zombie in the early 2000's and whoever was playing rhythm guitar with Slash in the 2000's when Gilby Clarke wasn't involved. Godin has the same issue. I feel they also focus in the beginner and intermediate market. They have some high end stuff, but they aren't marketing it. They're North America's biggest guitar manufacturer but most would never know. They own so many small brands. They need to advertise their high end products.
For me, it's either high end maple (birdseye) or jet black ebony. I'm not a fan of rosewood. I also prefer ash bodies over alder. I want a percussive guitar with Swiss knife electronics.
The only person of note that I can remember playing a Fernandes guitar is Billie Joe Armstrong, and there's nothing on the guitar that identifies it as a Fernandes. I can probably count on one hand, how many times I've even seen a Fernandes at a guitar shop. I didn't even realize that Burny was an active brand until a couple of years ago.
As far as Fernandes, I buy and have owned many. Other than MIJ Jacksons and Aria, they are my favorite brand. The higher end FGZ models are killer. My understanding was that most production ceased of Fernandes in 2013, with the exception of the high dollar prospec and artist models. Burny was definitely still making guitars. That could be why the sales show just 1 mill, that would only be about 300 pieces of high dollar pro guitars. Their models from 85-95 were killer.
That's a great comment Phil want versus need..... Great communication because that's the same as consumer discretionary VS consumer staple... All I've ever heard of is Fernandez sustainers..... And what the heck is that Theo guitar from Gibson yeah it looks just like "what the hell is that" Steve Martin....
I don't use pedals so I don't often buy them but the ones I do buy are JHS. I think I've bought 6 in the past year. It's a brand I trust because I trust Josh. And the pedals sound great and are made well and made here in the US as far as I know.
The Tulip Guitar was a Knickname for 1970’s Teisco guitar, but the Gibson Theodore “design” looks more like some Japanese Semihollow body guitars on the right hand side. PRS was right not to contest this let Gibson build a Butt Ugly Guitar which doesn’t build on its pre-Henry heritage.
?hey guys, i am looking to buy the music nomad full fretshield as i mostly work on polishing inexpensive chinese made steel strings (arias, sx, yamaha). what scale length one am i more likely to use 25.34 INCH SCALE or 24.75 INCH. i do also occasionally polish classical guitars and electrics...but figure ill just use individual fret guards.
Hey Phil How do i get in content with you.??? I've sent you two emails with no response. I need to know if I got scammed buying a t-shirt or are in fact supporting you as I wish..... Love the show.
Sorry I missed it live today, Phil... great show! Was spending time with my sweetie for the afternoon... post Kiesel Vader Headless DEEP DIVE DEMO I did... THANK YOU SO MUCH for turning me onto Kiesel... just love this guitar!!!😎🤘🎸
Fernandes could’ve diversified by reselling their sustainer systems. It’s too bad they’ve lost the market. They were wanted by metalheads at the time, but times change.
While you were talking about Pao Ferro vs RW it occured to me to ask: Why are Gibson’s vintage Korina guitars so sought after but, unless I’m wrong, Korina is not being exploited for any modern guitars en masse? I for one am interested in other woods like I am in trying Bison, Elk, Emu and not just sticking to 3 factory farmed meats.
I think Eric Clapton or someone owned a Korina Gibson at some point so that adds at least 10 grand to the price. Other than that, Korina is pretty easy to get and otherwise unremarkable
I'm surprised an artist like Metallica doesn't have at least one spare amp on the road. I get it, with a brand like Ampeg, they can pretty much find a replacement at a music store near by, but I wouldn't take the chance. My local ampeg dealer has the lower cost amps in stock. The high end, it can get within days, but usually sends to it's stores in bigger cities.
Shame about Fernandes... I have a stunning Fernandes The Jazz (60’s Fender Jazz bass model) from 1980 in CAR. My true favorite in my modest Fender bass collection...
The FGN showroom is so busy (and small) you have to make an appointment. So maybe they're just busy. John Cordy, a great guitar player, has reviewed FGN guitars very favorably. But his channel is sort of 50/50 between gear and actually playing so maybe that's a different audience. As for creating new models to counter the used market, as you rightly point out, guitar players are traditionalists. As a manufacturer, before you spend money developing a solution, you'd better find a problem.
Tradition?? remember that the very first Fender guitars were all Pine. then went to whatever wood they could get for bodies and the maple necks. .Pine is fine for body but I will still use a maple neck. finger boards and the rest... whatever. when I make the guitar myself I can do it anyway I wasnt. like my "Stellarcaster" with all the special details and custom specs.
I had two FGN Masterfield Semi Hollows - both were absolutely incredible. the custom one w/ the block inlays is one of the #1 guitars i regret parting with. Would recommend FGN 100%
I wonder who is going to buy the rights to the Fernades sustainer? I think it would be smart for Ibanez to buy it because so many of their artist use it
Suing another company for whatever reason doesn't take time away from building great guitars. PRS and Gibson both have teams of lawyers who handle this. The CEO, CFO and COO might be somewhat involved but it's not impacting the tech on the production floor nor does it prevent new products from being developed.
Hey, Phil! Not trying to tell you how to do your job better than you, but have you considered adding "markers" to the livestream in real time (or have your wife do it, since you say she's always watching it anyway) so that you can save most of that 1h30 it takes you to timestamp the video afterwards? If you already have the markings of where the subjects changed, I imagine it's much quicker to timestamp it. And if your wife is doing it, maybe she could even write down what the subject was as the marker is added.
(?Discuss pickup placement, incl. three-HB Les Paul Customs???) I gotta ask WHY did PRS "license" the Silver Sky - did Fender patent the PICKUP PLACEMENT? Like, Boy Howdy, you sure do have a SHIRT-pile of two-humbucker boltnecks! Like, 8/10th of what's showing! (YOU the one what brought up git-gear rehab....) I just say this as an excuse because I like to pimp my Yamaha SSC-500. (Speaking of the Silver Sky.) It's a sorta-Stratish shape - think the Yamaha Broad Bass - but, it's got a BIG FAT heavy neck with BIG FAT frets and it's a really solid SET-NECK with a really solid heavy NOT-whammy bridge. Think 25.5" Les Paul(ish) woodishness. BUT IT'S THE OPPOSITE of your whole collection; being three high-powered blade single-coil pickups in exactly the strat positions - and they HAVE TO BE to make those sounds: middle, middle+neck, middle+bridge. It has some GORGEOUS sounds - Dick's Pick's 10, later-period Knopfler etc. Noises that just AREN'T, that just CAN'T BE on your wall. Besides the Warmothy & USA Custom wood guitars I made myself, it's the most INTERESTING-sounding thing I own. I gotta ask WHY did PRS "license" the Silver Sky - did Fender patent the PICKUP PLACEMENT? (?Discuss pickup placement, incl. three-HB Les Paul Customs???)
I take the time to time stamp each subject

For those who didn't know, VH's brown M&M thing didn't have anything to do with M&M's. It was all about knowing that they read the entire rider.
Exactly, did they pay attention to the details
Signing a contract without reading every word is a terrible idea.

I use lemon oil on my laurel boards and it makes em look almost like rosewood. Nice and dark and not that dried out look Indian laurel has.

Take nattokinase. Welcome!
You could not buy a new Burny in the U.S. I had mine shipped from England. I believe it was due to a Gibson lawsuit but I could be wrong.
My 1998 mim fender has been all around the world. Played thousands of shows and studio recordings. Still use it today
The only thing I can remember about Frernandez guitars was their sustainer pickup.
the blood filled guitar for Blasko in Rob Zombie for me. ZOmbie sucks, but the guitar was sick
I like the blue stage light, still in-shot.
Normally, when I see the boom mike in a TV show I make a note in a book I have.
Phil, in my humble opinion has the right voice to pursue a side gig doing voice work in radio/TV advertising or public announcements. So smooth and calm with a soothing quality. She could announce a giant asteroid headed for Earth and it wouldn’t
Incite any panic-so chill.
RIP.
Referring to the question about humbuckers in a guitar with P90s…
Dimarzio make P90 sized humbuckers. In my opinion that’s the quickest easiest solution and also I really like the sound of dimarzio pickups.
I was also just looking at Tv Jones, who makes a few of its filtertrons in P90 size.
I liked the Fernandez Vertigo, cool original shape. Sad they couldn't keep up.
I have a Vertigo Elite with sustainer.. had pictures of it in my high school locker. Epic guitar
That’s a ‘73, so no surprise there. The 2009?
That’s hard to believe.
@Ira88881 well, gear used gear prices have been crazy. I think they are starting to fall now, so you may be right, but the amounts I see people asking are not far off from what I paid for my 2009 when it was new. Prices got ridiculous because people were paying them. 😂
Phil, another great show.
You are the best show on the internet.👍🍻👏❤
Can we get your merch here in England?
Is that a Bonvillain painted JS back there? 🧐
I wish those are amazing. it’s a Kiesel swirl which is also pretty sweet
The first sustaniac I remember seeing was on a Fernandes.
Such a great point on the Fernandes guitars.. the only thing I can remember about them is the sustainer... And even then I dont know if its the same company, if they still make it, etc.
Fuss over the top like that a lot. ill be using my thunb. I got a dan electro mod 6 in green had many dam electros they are fun guitars.blastors are great
I agree on the Fender Rumble amp
I have one that is more than enough for at home, and even many jamming scenarios
And on top of the sound, they are so light and easy to move.
I bought a Fernandez les Paul 35 years ago ( which was stunning )
Agreed. Got a neo classic NLS11RMP and it's glorious.
I love my FGN. I've played quite a few and everyone has been really nice
The question is, would Heritage try harder for me too?
Hi Guitar 🎸 guy seen you live watched 👀 about a week later !!! The State ment marks are the strings
About TIM'S winning picture taken in Hong Kong for any who are curious. Native NYC son here now based in HK so I know for sure. :)
His picture was taken from across the body of water known as Victoria Harbor from the district area known as Kowloon, perhaps specific neighborhood of Tsim Sha Tsui.
Let's go have some beers and I'll show you around HK a bit :)
Cheers and congrats!
I know im late but i bought a custom humbucker in a p90 sized enclosure from Seymour duncan. Costs a bit of money but not outrageous imo.
I bought a Heritage 154 with upgraded woods in 1996 and it is a total work of art. I also own a Gibson R8 and Really like it. A Gibson is a Gibson. BTW, I like made in USA guitars (and other items) the best.
best and easy product to dark a rosewood, pao Ferro, Laurel, ebony... fretboard is for me the Montypresso from Monty's guitar
In the same vein as new colors for marketing purposes, I am amused at how Fender continually reinvents/reimagines/rebrands single coils every year.
Wonderfully insightful talk, Phil! 🤗
Fernandez guitars (strat-style) used to advertise heavily in guitar magazines in the 1980s .
No shit, I’ve bought 8 guitars directly from TH-cam reviews. Now I also hang out on Sweetwater to see what they’ve got. Yeah, I’ve got it bad.
From u.k.
I had it bad, bought! Sold, gave away!
A few high end, I should have kept!
I had a rush of blood one day!
And got rid of them all!
It felt great!
I just have an ADMIRA classical now.
And an ALHAMBRA classical that I leave
In DADGAD.
Now that PRS dropped its objection to the Theodore, will Gibson let PRS make a V?
Nope. lol
I'm thinking Tokai could have a case against Gibson - look up Talbo Blazing Fire, a guitar they came out with in the eighties. There's definitely a similarity to me.
Fair enough, Gibson may have had the design earlier, but they didn't even know, so did nothing with it!
Ps - the name came from Tokai ALuminium BOdy.
@@PhillipMcKnight dean bought Fernandez for 4 thousand and made an explore from the likeness of gibsons ceo skinny chicken legs
If you have to wait 20 to 30 years that's a gift of playing that guitar for 30 years. Sweet. ❤🔥 I have a Fernandes Revolver guitar I play. I like it.
Pao Ferro…was on the Fender SRV Guitar
I have a pau ferro fender, an I like it. The grain is a lot tighter than rosewood.
I would give much for KYG gear. A pedal or a pair of pickups. I’d be honored.
❤ for the shinning reference. Fantastic.
Fernandez are pawn shop window guitars here in Australia.. that’s been my experience with those guitars.
I had the same S2 singlecut semi hollow
Played nice, and was comfy as hell with its light weight.
Great insight Phil.
It is a tough market out there. So many clones and copies, it has to be hard to stand out from the crowd.
I've been benging old episodes hoping to find the Agufish one but haven't come across it yet. If anyone know i'd appreciate the heads up
Thanks Phil!
Burny with VH-1s: Fantastic :)
I’d love to see you do a video on Bacchus Baron guitar
Mack-10 story... classic!
Fernandes could’ve diversified by reselling their sustainer systems. It’s too bad they’ve lost the market. They were wanted by metalheads at the time, but times change.
Would love to see a review of the Harmony Silhouette, Jupiter, or Comet.
Love Korina! Reverend line is in Korina. :)
You should also try a bison bone nut!
The high end, it can get within days, but usually sends to it's stores in bigger cities.
ʕ •ᴥ•ʔ 🐾 excellent episode, thanks. Stay Cool.
Arizona hockey team names.....the Dry Ice? Freezer burn? 😊
Would you consider reviewing the Fender Vintage II 61 Stratocaster
LIving in Japan, I can sort of see Fernades' argument. There are used Burny/Fernades guitars all over the pawn shops and on the Japanese online sites.
I live in Japan too. Mercari, and yahoo auctions have a bunch too.
@@ameslacey8015 I use Yahoo auctions but I find the stuff on Mercari to be mostly junk
Tradition?? remember that the very first Fender guitars were all Pine. then went to whatever wood they could get for bodies and the maple necks. .Pine is fine for body but I will still use a maple neck. finger boards and the rest... whatever. when I make the guitar myself I can do it anyway I wasnt. like my "Stellarcaster" with all the special details and custom specs.
People are struggling just to put food on the table. There isn't much money left in the budget for hobbies.
I had two FGN Masterfield Semi Hollows - both were absolutely incredible. the custom one w/ the block inlays is one of the #1 guitars i regret parting with.
Would recommend FGN 100%
Fernandez? I'm 4+ years back into guitar after many years away. Never heard of them.
I knew about them, but I'm also a sucker for cool japanese 80's guitars
I always listen to AlterBrigde everyday! I have The Black bird and part of the lyrics from the song tatooed on my shoulder.
I wonder who is going to buy the rights to the Fernades sustainer? I think it would be smart for Ibanez to buy it because so many of their artist use it
Bring back the wilhelm scream in the intro.
Fernandes/Burny abandoned the US market a few years ago. A real shame.
Suing another company for whatever reason doesn't take time away from building great guitars. PRS and Gibson both have teams of lawyers who handle this. The CEO, CFO and COO might be somewhat involved but it's not impacting the tech on the production floor nor does it prevent new products from being developed.
Speaking of Agufish does anyone know what podcast episode he was on? My brother told me about it and forgot which one lol
THanks
Is there a PRS on the wall? If not......
(?Discuss pickup placement, incl. three-HB Les Paul Customs???)
I gotta ask WHY did PRS "license" the Silver Sky - did Fender patent the PICKUP PLACEMENT? Like, Boy Howdy, you sure do have a SHIRT-pile of two-humbucker boltnecks! Like, 8/10th of what's showing! (YOU the one what brought up git-gear rehab....)
I just say this as an excuse because I like to pimp my Yamaha SSC-500. (Speaking of the Silver Sky.)
It's a sorta-Stratish shape - think the Yamaha Broad Bass - but, it's got a BIG FAT heavy neck with BIG FAT frets and it's a really solid SET-NECK with a really solid heavy NOT-whammy bridge.
