Installing Trailer Wiring Harness In 2007 Toyota Corolla

  • In this DIY video I show how to wired in a Reese converter box to convert from 5 wires on the car (due to separate brake lights and turn signals) to 4 wires on the trailer (due to trailers having combined brak and turn signal filaments/bulbs).
    Note: at the point in the video where I was using the tester, it properly shows the signals flashing but I must not have been pressing the brake properly since the tester in the video did not show brake lights when the audio says "you should now see both brake and signal". After viewing the video, i went back and checked and it works properly. Also, it works properly when connected to the trailer which is what counts ;)

    Only video I found that shows how to make separate brake and running light wires (from vehicle) work with standard 4 prong trailer harness.
    Thanks ! 👍🏼👍🏼

    hello, thank you for this very helpful video. It was a little hard to determine the 2nd and 3rd wire that you were pointing to (green/white) and (Green/black). My first attempt didnt work but I think that I did not do a good job with the wires and the T-connectors. Thanks again

  • @SeriousSchitt
    @SeriousSchitt 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    5 to 4? I've never heard of it. So (after reading your comments in the description) you're saying that the brake and turn lights use the same filaments? How does that work then, if you're slowing down to make a right turn, then your right hand brake light will flash completely on and off, is that how it works? Thanks.

    • @mrdiyguy123
      @mrdiyguy123  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have since sold the car and made the video years ago but yes, what i remember is there is a different filament for brake and turn signal in newer cars but not for trailers (common filament). Therefore you need the electronic module to handle the conversion.

    You only hook up that 4 pin wiring harness at one side of the brake light? not both.

    • @mrdiyguy123
      @mrdiyguy123  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Correct. If you think of it you only need to give the trailer light module 1 brake signal since both brake lights are either on or off. Newer vehicles may have another configuration.

      @@mrdiyguy123 My 93 camry has two wires for the brakes. One goes to the center of the bulb base, the other one goes into the bulb thru the edge of the bulb base. Which one do I have to connect to it?

    • @mrdiyguy123
      @mrdiyguy123  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@mabast007 hi. The one to the center of the bulb is the bake light "activation" or hot wire. That is the wire containing brake on/off signal. The wire going to the base of the socket is the common/neutral wire.

    • @mrdiyguy123
      @mrdiyguy123  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @3:29 I show the right signal wire location. Unlike all other connections discussed after that point which connect near the left side light bulbs, the right signal wire connects to the wire harness.

      Pull carpet back till you find the main wire harness then use a test light and probe each wire..So you probe a wire with the left blinker on when the test light starts to blink with the blinker you found that wire same with the brake the running lights and the right blinker
