I heard that the new snake guns were NOT made by Colt, they are made by a different manufacturer, and made under lisence from Colt. Can that be dispatched or confirmed?
I had a Ruger SP 101 in .357magnum and fired 5 rounds of full house .357 magnum once. That was enough to convince me that .38 special and .38 special +P was more than enough to get the job done with out pain. My hand only stung for a few hours and it was a good learning experience. PAIN BAD HITTING TARGET GOOD.YEHAA from East Ky
I have looked at the Rhinos my only concern is the price of aluminum in Italy they seem to think its scarce. I just get that from the price they want for them. YEHAA from East Ky
For tabletop revolver reviews, feeler guage cylinder gap measurement would be nice. 0.006" is good and 0.004" is great. After measuring a few, you can learn to eyeball the gap which is helpful at the gunshop since I doubt they would let you jam shims in an unpurchased gun.
Good review, picked up one yesterday haven't shot it yet. I like the finish on the gun, working man's finish. The people that don't like it probably think of the old Colts with the beautiful blue finish and the nickel guns.
I have a 100% blued/black anodized aluminum Second Model Colt Cobra, 38+P rated (Colt recommends inspection after 1,000 +P rounds, which is a lot). My old version beats this new version in lightweight, beautiful curves and proportions, hand fit checkered wood grips, and appreciating collector's value. Only negative is bulky grips are not speed loader friendly but speed strips are flatter and easier to carry anyway. The new version might have the edge in recoil control and wear resistance due to the stainless steel construction. You could also do a mirror-like polish on the stainless steel which is one way to increase resale value. I hand polished a slightly out of tune GP100 and brought it to a gunshow for trade in and people were falling over themselves wanting to buy it!
I examined one of these in the local gun shop and immediately noticed that the edges of the trigger guard are sharp and unfinished. There is simply no excuse for something like that on a revolver in this price range, especially when it says Colt on it. Also, since using MIM parts lowers production costs they should be passing that savings on to consumers. The store that had this gun wanted $799! The MSRP is $699 but should be $649 and I should be able to purchase it for $579!!!
Done with semi autos , all of them jam. Have a G19 shoots most time, but still jams. I’m not thinking under stress I could unjam in a hurry. Now carry Taurus 38
My full sized SA have fallen away as well. Taurus puts out amazing, economically priced snubbies that are reliable with thousands of rounds in my experience. Paid $160 each for 3 during the last rebate. My stash guns
On mine I have to forcefully open or close the cylinder latch because it just isn't working properly... Still love my cobra 🐍 but i feel like I might have to send it back to colt .
Hickok45's version looked a bit rough by comparison. This one isn't as bad, but his had way too many obvious casting marks, especially the pin on the trigger. The grip didn't fit very flush with the back of the trigger guard. It seems very expensive and heavy for them to rely on cast parts. Cheap casting jobs worry me.
@@curmudgeonextraordinaire1884 let's do a quick check and see how many snub 357's are loaded with 38 +p anyway..I've got a Taurus M605 on my hip right now with Rem SJHP 125g 38+. Good shootable load.
As you were giving the measurements, I thought "That's a big gun" right before you said "So it's not a very big gun". I've only handled a couple revolvers. They aren't really my thing. I guess I just assumed that they would be much smaller. So if it's longer, taller and heavier than my EDC that shoots ten plus one better .40 S&W rounds, what are the advantages?
No specific advantage but some people prefer revolvers for one reason or another. From a size perspective, revolvers are at a disadvantage over autos in how they use their available space. Both have to have grips so you can hold them but autos are able to make that space do double-duty (be a grip and hold the ammo). Revolvers store the ammo in a cylinder that has to be at least a certain diameter which causes them to almost always be thicker. The layout also usually causes them to be longer in both directions (height is affected by the cylinder). So it comes down to autos in a similar caliber always being able to be smaller. When you get into the heavy calibers, revolvers can go much higher than autos since they don't have to fit the ammo into a grip that is small enough for a hand to hold.
Holster for the cobra? I bought one and i have a tagua its not a tight fit but works im having a hard time finding a good holster anyone have a cobra that could help with suggestions. Thanks.
There is a company called Craft Holsters that specifically lists holsters for the 2017 Cobra. They are leather and look nice on the site, however I have not actually tried one to comment on their quality.
That does not look like a 3 to 4lb single action trigger.Seems more like two, haha! Btw, the trigger guard seems a bit big. After several rounds it would do a number on your knuckle.Looks can be deceiving though. Also, those sights are really nice.Best i've seen on a revolver in a while.
The SA trigger sure feels like it is less than 3lbs. While shooting it, we never got smacked by the trigger guard, with .38 spcl this thing handles pretty well and that Hogue grip allows you to keep it where it belongs.
CWB1863 ... I'm somewhat new to this. Why would a larger trigger guard be more prone to knocking into your knuckle? It would seem the opposite would be true... Thank you, Rich
Sorry,I could have been more specific, meant underneath the trigger guard. Kind of like a glock, where many(including myself, but had my G26 undercut) get the "glock knuckle" irritation or rubbing during shooting. It just looks like on the Colt it would a little painful.Hope that explained it a little better.
Ours only came with one grip, the black one. I am not aware of an option for gray grips but a lot of times there are "Distribute Exclusive" versions that have certain options not on all others.
You may have seen the gray "Colt" grips on, YankeeMarshal's video for example. I think those were special only for the showroom models for that convention. I'm hoping they'll release something like those for us to buy too. But if they don't, one of the grip makers will surely come on board before long.

The original Cobra that this is a revival of had a highest caliber of .38spcl only (there were smaller caliber variants). A King Cobra was later released that was .357 mag, hopefully they will revive that as well.
what the best way to go about getting one? just waiting tell they start showing up, or just ordering one through your local gun shop? I'd like to get a Cobra or a SW 60, but I hate SW keylock. I refuse to support gun manufactures that don't give their customers what they want.

. 642 with horrible trigger and Smith and wesson has very spoty qc i bought two preformance center revolvers in the last 2 months and they both had chips on the frame ans unfinished "polished" trigger face. Well said. I'm not interested in carrying more ammunition that I could realistically use to defend myself. A revolver, with just 5 or 6 rounds aboard, adds much less to the advertised weight of a hand gun. I often wonder why gun reviewers don't state the weight of a firearm loaded, because that's the way we carry them.

Sounds like you should learn to use a semi auto correctly
Can I ask? Is this a good carry gun? In other words will it stop an attacker?
Yes, .38 spcl has been used effectively for years as a defensive caliber.
A .45 won't stop someone unless you place your shot(s) in a vital area.

No, that is actually one of the seams where the sideplate that covers the action bolts on.
Great Review👍👍. I want one of these revolvers. Do you know if colt plans on making this in .357 magnum?

Reliability for one the other is you can keep a revolver loaded for years and not have to worry about damaging springs ( magazine's).
Any firearm can break but never heard of a wheel gun being "ammo sensitive."
The three D’s of revolvers over semi autos: Durability, dependability and Deadly.
No problems with limp wristing, failure to feed, failure to eject or double feed problems.
