This is extremely helpful. Thank you for your honest review and for showing the sound of the pump. When I got my pump, I thought it was broken. You are definitely right that the knocking sound is very annoying.
The Medela pump in style without bag but I got mines through my insurance and yes the little yellow box did include the plug-in cord and a battery pack option
The battery pack does come with the insurance. The knocking sound was also present with my pump as well. The insurance pump comes with the Wall Adapter, Battery pack, the pump itself, tubing, two 5 oz bottles, two breast shields (24 mm) and 2 breast shield connectors with membranes. Like Alia said it’s best to buy the stands as well as they can tip over easily. As Alia mentions I also hate how you can’t see the settings you have your pump in at first it’s really tedious to figure out then you get the hang of how many times you push the button.
I got mine through my insurance. It came with the battery pack, but no bottle stands. I wish I had known about your videos before I got my pump. I agree with everything you say about this pump. I'm so disappointed in it. The only thing I like about it is how easy it is to take apart and put together again. How do you know when the motor is going bad?
I’ve been waiting for this review ! I was deciding between this pump or the Ameda Mya and you definitely helped me settle on the Ameda. You brought up a lot of questions/concerns I had like noise and ease of use. You have the best reviews! Thank you!!!
Thank you for the honest review. I just purchased this pump but have not opened it. It’s going back. I was looking for a more quieter pump as I pump in the same room as my baby.
Thank you so much for this in-depth review! I’m pregnant with my second and not an exclusive pumper so I have a Spectra with tons of life left, and was looking at different options for my insurance pump this time to branch out. As a nurse I’m very familiar with Medela and use the Symphony at work, but will definitely forego this Medela for a second home pump. Thanks again!
I’m so glad I watched this review and your Ameda Mya review. My insurance gave me an option between the two and I was going to go with the PIS, but decided on the Mya! So happy!
My daughter was born in 2018 2 months early. So I was used to using the symphony because she was in the NICU for 3 weeks. And I couldn't use my pump in style after about 2 weeks when she came home. My nipples just hurt so bad and I would get so anxious when it would switch from let down mode. I bought a spectra and when I went back to work my supply started dropping. I ultimately ended up renting a symphony pump. I just find it so weird that they can make such a good pump and then create the pump in styles.
Oh yes. The pump sound is no big deal. But that knock after it releases EVERY SINGLE TIME? I wouldn't be able to handle that either. I used the old pisa to ep for both my girls but ended with the baby buddha. Love your honesty and transparency as always! 🧡
My pump in style advanced did that knocking noise too. 2016 version. I still have it as my backup, but got the Spectra this time. It's so quiet in comparison
I’m a first time mom, and will need to pump at work. Don’t know yet what my sensitivity will be like or what I’ll respond best to. Would you recommend this pump or the Spectra?
I had my daughter in 2018. I bought the spectra after a while because my nope were really sore with my pump in style. When I went back to work my supply dropped a lot. I ended up renting a symphony from the hospital to keep up. I knew the symphony would work well because my daughter was 2 months early. She stayed in the hospital 3 weeks and I was able to use one there.
Thank you so much for such a thorough review! Like you I had the original Medela back in 2014, so I was mainly looking whether to pay extra for the newer version or go for the insurance option (the 2014 model). Your review was the first I found that compared the two, so THANK YOU! I will be purchasing the original since it was tried and true and lasted through two kids :D
wish i seen this sooner 😭 I ordered this pump already thru my insurance 😫 only reason i got this was because it was a closed system and i plan to exclusively pump. I have the spectra S1 to take to work so maybe if i just use this one during the day and spectra at night will hopefully just have to make it work out
Omg I came to ur review to see if mine is broken! This new one sucks! I hate the noise! Sounds like it's dying!! The noise is sooo annoying! And I'm stuck with it! Got it through my insurance and I can't get a different one or return it!
Thank you so much for this review!! I was really considering this pump but after your honest review I think I might go with the Spectra S1. Thank you again. As a soon to be first time mom I just don't want to make a wrong decision in the products that I buy for baby especially one as important as a breast pump.
No problem momma! I think the S1 would be a much better pick. There’s a higher probability it’ll have a setting you respond well to and offers way more than this one! Congrats!!
@@MommaAlia Thank you so much for responding! After watching this video, I started watching more of your videos. I'm learning so much! & I'm now a subscriber!

This one is kind of meh, but it’s easier to clean than the old one, and it does empty me better than my elvie.
You are my favorite breastpump reviewer!! Thank you so much!! I almost got this pump but you helped me make up my mind! Lansinoh is still my fav thanks to you!!
I spent like 3 days of reading reviews between the motif luna, medela, and lansinoh 2.0.. I ended up getting the lansinoh. Waiting for it now. Hoping i made the right choice
Many thanks for this review! I was about to buy it and now I’m wondering whether I should buy this one, the old one (pump in style advanced) or the Spectra S1. What would you do? I’m a first time mom
Honestly that’s tough to say because I feel like they’re so similar but I almost prefer the old version. It did empty be better than this newer version for some reason🤷🏻♀️
If budget isn’t an issue the Pumpables Super Genie is amazing! If you need something cheaper than that one or more likely to be covered by insurance, the Lansinoh Smart Pump 2.0! I have reviews of both on my channel too☺️
omg thank you for the review. there weren't many out there and I really wanted to loved this because its suppose to be an upgrade and a closed system. My friend also swears by Medela but I am nervous since this will be my first pump as a FTM. I want a good experience. Through my insurance I would have just gotten the battery pack, the pump and one set of flanges for a $30 upgrade. I guess that $30 isn't worth it. I rather get the lansinoh smart pump 2.0
I got this pump through insurance. Debating returning it and getting the Spectra. I will be pumping at least 3-4 times a day for at least a year. I did use the old PISA with my previous two kids and had no issues. Thoughts?
Okay so I know this video wasn’t for comparison, but I’m dying to know two things: 1. Was the suction as good with the single tube system on the new PIS as the old PISA was? And 2. How does it compare in terms of power/suction compared to the flex? Trying to understand the landscape with the new pumps. I also EP’d with a PISA with my first and I know back then nothing ever worked as well for me. The single tube input makes me nervous about loss of suction.
The new Pump In Style has plenty of suction. Whether single or double pumping, it never lacked with it. I feel like it more aggressive than the Flex but not quite as aggressive as the Sonata. The Flex was the most comfortable for me personally
Currently watching this as my pump just stopped working after two weeks milk is coming out of the part where I plug in the power adapter & also the battery pack doesn’t work smh
I originally got this pump through insurance and absolutely hated it. Suction hurt, not enough settings, SOOOO loud. I got a lansinoh smart pump 2.0 on prime day and so far it is SOOOOO much better. More gentle, better settings, and SOOOO much quieter!
I just switched from lansinoh to this new medela and i hate it so far, I feel really sad because i get even less milk than what i was getting with the lansinoh and i spent 175 f***ing dollars 🤦🏻♀️ I guess I'll keep trying to see if my body gets use to this new stimulation, which is very different from the lansinoh.
@@MommaAlia thank you ❤️ I ordered a new shield size and I'm waiting for it to see how it goes, in the mean time I'm still using my lansinoh that i love so much now 😅
Good day! Your reviews I’m seeing so far are great but as a first time mom what would you recommend to use? I’ve seen reviews about the lansinoh smartpump 2.0 and the medeal pump in style with max flow. I have lansinoh storage bags before realizing about the different pumps so not sure if I should get the lansinoh since I have storage bags already!!! Help please!!!
Question: I was overproducer with my first and ended up renting a hospital grade pump for home when I went back to work due to such severe nipple pain and clogging using the Ameda purely yours from my insurance. I used the hospital grade Ameda when in the office so opted to rent the Medela Symphony at home (which honestly I loved). Note - the first few months at home I purposely did alternate feeding to decrease my supply due to the severe pain of pumping and the serious clogs I was getting. Essentially I would feed on my right back to back for 3 sessions the move to my left for 3 sessions. My daughter was also a bottle rejecter so this was fine initially. I continued using that schedule for pumping at work. This time around I would like to find a more portable pump I can use to empty my breast and would like to pump one boob while nursing with the other so I can build a decent stash this time around. Any advice on best pumps for overproducers? Without going hospital grade so you can empty and avoid clogs?
It really depends on what you prefer in terms of suction, feel, and cycle rate. If you liked the Ameda hospital grade there Ameda Mya Pro has lots of settings and I enjoyed it!
@@MommaAlia thanks so much! Just watched a few of your videos on this pump and looks like a strong contender. I too need high frequency to empty so that's a good sign this one might work for me!! Much appreciated.
Bummer! I was really considering this one for baby #3, but I think I am going to go with one of the pumpables pumps instead. They just seem so much more thought out and made for lactating people than a lot of the Medela ones. Thank you for the review! You’re my go-to for my pumping reviews always! 💜💜💜
I’m not 100% sure because I have never needed to replace mine but I would really hope you’d be able to buy just the membrane. It may be one of those things that’s only offered on their website. But I also wouldn’t be shocked if they made you buy the entire kit🙃
Well dang, this really sucks. I knew Medela as a whole as crap but something has got to give. For their price points you'd think they updated their most beloved pump in a way that was far more exciting. Thank you. Good thing I bypassed this pump in favor of Ameda Mya Joy Pro as my insurance option with kiddo 4.
Curious if you had the option between the Pump in style advanced or this one would you go with the advanced? At my doctors office these are the 2 options
Hi.. Which would you recommend between Specra S2 and the Medela pump in style? If you recommend Medela, which is better- the new pump in style or the old pump in style. My insurance seems to coverage these, but I am just so confused. Please help me with this 😅
I find the knocking sound is ok for me. However, the buttons are not working well!!! 😫 The buttons are soft and not responding most of the time when I press them. I have to press so many times to reach a comfortable vacuum level! Moreover, there is no indicator of the vacuum level. One of my nipples got hurt after using this pump for 1 week. My doctor suggests me to stop pumping and prescribes me a cream to use after each feeding. I really want my money back.
The new PISA looks nice, but offers so much less than say the Ameda Mya, which is also widely covered by insurance. Dissapointed with Medelas current lineup. These pumps couldve been so much better.
I had to EP for my daughter and I’m expecting to EP for baby #2. What is your favorite pump ? I have the old medela in style and I’m looking for an upgrade.
I don’t have the Spectra anymore and frequently pass on pumps to other mommas. Being privileged with the ability to try so many I don’t like the idea of them sitting around when they could be used frequently by another mom. I’d say they’re all very comparable and not far off from each other from my memory. Any of them are pretty quiet!
So disappointing ☹️ I was seriously considering this one but you made some really good points and then with the knocking sound, this will be a hard no for me. Which pump would you recommend?
Hi. Being from Canada this is my only option. There is not Spectra or Ameda here, dunno why... just Medela ... I don’t mind if it’s loud I I only care for the suction power ... is it ok for a EP?? Please answer
If it’s your option I think it’ll be fine! I would invest in LacTeck flanges or BeauGen nipple cushions. Also some warming pads and a good nipple cream! Make sure to have your flanges sized too!
Flex! I personally prefer it the most out of any of their current line up. Just please watch those parts and that you don’t lose milk with them being too heavy!
If you are not a fan of this pump it shows you are smart and have good common sense. Take a look at the video that show the internel parts of the pump. The cylinder that is creating the suction is very small much smaller then the older p/i/s .A good pump has a good amount of suction volume this is whats creates good milk flow .if the cylinder is very small then the pump cant have much suction volume. Your smart if you junk it or give it away.
I just received this pump today, free through my insurance. The insurance version DOES include the battery pack, but does NOT include the carrying bag or the cooler/ice pack - I’m bummed about that :(
Hello lady :) I am a new subscriber ! I am looking to purchase a Medela breast pump... which one you think is the best one to buy ? (regardless of the price :) )
Hey momma! Thanks so much for your support💕 The Flex is the one I like the most in their current line up. But please be conscious of the parts with them being too heavy! I don’t want you to lose any precious milk!
I’m so disappointed that they did this. I have the pump in style advanced and I can no longer find replacement tubing in store. I’ve had this for less than a year so it’s unfortunate that they’re phasing it out so quickly. Thanks for the helpful review!
This pump sucks. :( I had their old pump in style advance and that stopped working so I bought this but I cant get any milk to come out with it. :( so frustrating
I cant with the knocking. whyyyyyyy. I feel like Medela is the industry leader for breastfeeding and they seem to be slipping. sad. also that lifespan what the heck! :(
It's not just the noise! It also vibrates when it sucks... It's so annoying and uncomfortable! I don't know who made this! I'll just stick with the old one

100000%!!
I had to EP for my daughter and I’m expecting to EP for baby #2. What is your favorite pump ? I have the old medela in style and I’m looking for an upgrade.
The Pumpables Super Genie or Lansinoh SMARTPUMP 2.0, whichever your insurance covers!
Would love an updated sound comparison video of like Spectra S2, Pumpables, and Lansinoh 2.0!
Pumpables SuperGenie or Lansinoh SmartPump 2.0!
I have the ameda mya and this new pisa as my options. I think I’d rather do the mya. Thanks for this review.
Happy to help momma!
Which one did you choose? Those are my two options too.
Hi Alia, if you had to choose between the max flow and the freestyle flex, which one would you get?
I think she is okay with the flex.. she reviewed it too
Flex! I personally prefer it the most out of any of their current line up. Just please watch those parts and that you don’t lose milk with them being too heavy!
I lost colostrum with the sonata parts! Because they were so too heavy... 🙁
Nooooo!
Dang, I was super excited to order this on Amazon for roughly $120. Still might just to try it but idk.. 😓
I wouldn’t risk that amount of money momma! I’m sorry, it’s just not worth it in my opinion😩 Pumpables is a great brand of pump!
@@MommaAlia yeah I didn't get it. I was super excited for an "update"
Spectra S2 or Lansinoh 2.0? First time mom, have no idea.
Lansinoh hands down!
You do get the battery pack! :)
Awesome, thanks!
Great review! I also saw your review on the freestyle flex. Do you have a preference between the two? Thank you!
Thank you! I would almost anything besides this pump. It’s better than nothing at all but besides that, there’s far better options!
I just received this pump today, free through my insurance. The insurance version DOES include the battery pack, but does NOT include the carrying bag or the cooler/ice pack - I’m bummed about that :(
Ah sorry momma ):
What would you recommend between the Lansinoh Smartpump 2.0 and the Ameda mya?
If it’s a general recommendation Lansinoh SmartPump 2.0! If you regularly need a super portable pump, Mya!
Momma Alia Thanks! I think I’ll go with the Mya. I work 5 days a week and I have 2 other little ones. Will probably be on my feet a lot.
Momma Alia thank you so much for answering back ❤️
I’m so disappointed that they did this. I have the pump in style advanced and I can no longer find replacement tubing in store. I’ve had this for less than a year so it’s unfortunate that they’re phasing it out so quickly.
Thanks for the helpful review!
Look on Amazon for the replacement tubing and spare parts. They have an off brand that is highly rated that is compatible with the Advance.
That does suck momma! Tabitha is right, the third party brand MayMom has great products! Hopefully that helps you out🤞🏻💕
This pump sucks. :( I had their old pump in style advance and that stopped working so I bought this but I cant get any milk to come out with it. :( so frustrating
Yes the insurance version has the battery pack. The knocking noise is a new vibration technology to improve milk flow
I cant with the knocking. whyyyyyyy. I feel like Medela is the industry leader for breastfeeding and they seem to be slipping. sad. also that lifespan what the heck! :(
I was so disappointed😔
It's not just the noise! It also vibrates when it sucks... It's so annoying and uncomfortable! I don't know who made this! I'll just stick with the old one
I prefer the older model too!
Omg!!!! The knocking....... what the heck.... if that wasn’t there it would be so nice!! Ugh 😑
My insurance includes the battery pack
Awesome!
