      Wendy, the 91 street station was closed on February 2, 1959. This station has been abandoned for 58 years. Where are you getting that the 91 st station was closed in the early 90's?

      Reggie Rodriguez lol thank you. Im actually typing this from 90th and Amsterdam. Im from here. Im in my 30s and there was never an entrance on 90-91. Only 86st or 93-96st.

      Someone said that 91st is "still used today" as the midway point stopping line...... That's 96th, not 91st.

      @@graystar212 As the original entrance was probably sealed and paved over, though I do wonder if the rest of the upstairs of that station is intact. All I know with some abandoned stations is that only way to access some from the street is probably from a hatch or manhole meant for inspecting the tunnel.

    In the 1950's the stations along the No. 1 line were lengthened to accommodate longer trains. You can tell this in the various stations at one end or another. This applies to all the stations including the 96th and 86th St. stations. Yet if the 91st St. station had been lengthened, that would have meant that the train would pull out of it almost immediately into the 96st St. or 86th St. stations due to the short 5-block distance. (For non-New Yorkers, north-south blocks in New York are very short). They decided simply to close 91st. So the 91st St. station was never lengthened and if they stopped a train there today the entire length of the train would not have access to a platform.

      @@86kickass The 7th Avenue 18th Street station (on the 1 line) is still in use. I suspect the neighborhood raised a stink and convinced the MTA to leave it in operation.

      1. No clearance zone.
      2. Derbies.
      3. Any emergency situation.
      4. A train that can use the same tracks a different direction literally next second.
      Tones of shit can happen. Besides that it's a pure trespassing and TO can call cops any moment.

    Very dangerous dude. Just a heads up. Some of these tunnels have sensors that will trigger if you are in a restricted area and will notify that cops of someone in the tunnel and of course if any conductor or train operators see someone in the tunnel it will cause all trains to stop because nobody wants to hit someone.

    In the summer of 1997, I went with a group of other railfans on a tour called Day One On The IRT. Our group went on the southbound platform of the abandoned 91st Street Station. We would pile into the lead car of the 1 downtown local at 96 Street station ,the operator would stop at the middle of the platform, and our tour guide opened the lead door of the first car. Once we were out, the train went on its way to its destination. After our guide gave the best explanation he could in between trains of all sorts roaring through the tunnel, he would communicate to the dispatcher that we were ready for pickup on the next downtown local. Sure enough, the 1 local slowed up, he opened the lead door of the first car, we piled in, and we were on our way to the next destination of our tour. It was a blast seeing the R-62's and the classic Redbirds in their element racing through the tunnel to their destinations!!

    • @reggierodriguez6546
      @reggierodriguez6546 7 ปีที่แล้ว +19

      Ethan, go with at least 2 of your buddies and leave the bat home. Don't carry that extra weight. Put some gloves on before going into the tunnel, always be careful with the third rail because it's electrified, bring a mask to protect yourself from breathing potential harmful dust and asbestos that may be in air on the abandon station such as 91 st, Bergen st. Etc. Bring a plastic bottle of rubbing alcohol and bandages in case you or your buddies gets cut along the way. Make sure your skin such as your arms and legs are not exposed. Know the times that the next train will run through the tunnels. The schedules are listed in the mta website. When you're running in the tunnels, don't make too much noise, when you're at the station, don't talk loud. Make sure no mta employees sees you. If you see a rat don't run away, scare it away instead. I have been in the tunnels before when I was a teenager. It feels like a rush and your life flashes before you

    theres a trainstation somewhere going towards the city part. I do not know where it is nor the street. but it was separated in 3 tracks and 3 platforms. 2 of them were in use and the one all the way across the dark track was the dark and vacant spooky station platform where the trains used to stop by. Now they just drive right past them without stopping. The stairways are gated as well.

      Short platform and because 96th Street platform was extended.

    • @brooklyn6times

      91st Street was closed because it was too close to the 96th Street station as a result of the lengthening of the platforms.

    Wait couldn't u use 96th street as ur starting point to run to the 91st station cuz starting in 86 street station is a lot more dangerous cuz its mush more further

    • @fh4709
      @fh4709 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      96 street has a dispatcher office since its technically a terminal station during G.Os. Plus there is alot more security and police so it’s not a good idea

    Very scariest , but why this stations in nyc is abandoned?

    • @gomboach
      @gomboach 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The plan was that if a train stopped at one station, some part of it would hang over to another neighboring station (Don't know why, I think that makes no sense). I think it was somehow stupidly designed and got too far from the 96 and 86th Street stations, so it had to be closed.
