  • Briggs Flo Jet Carb , Why they leak , Part 2. The Briggs & Stratton Flo Jet , Updraft carburetor can leak from a few places. one is the needle valve not seating, this will flood the bowl and push fuel out through the bowl vent. The passageway near the emulsion tube that goes into the carb throat is to let air into the emulsion tube. There is a hole in emulsion tube by the tapered part , will let fuel go around the emulsion tube . If the emulsion tube leaks at the taper where it seals to carb , it will leak past and leak out of the bottom of the carb. Briggs jet screwdriver 19062. There are several ways to fix leaking flo jet carburetor on a cast iron single cylinder engine. Thank You. Very well and accurately explained. Those anti-leak washers have a 1/8" hole and 3/16 OD. If you find some Viton tubing or fuel resistant tubing that size you can take a small thin slice off it and use that.

    GR8 HELP!!! Was wondering why fuel was dripping out and turning the screw made it go or stop. Had a few issues, gasket leaking, dirty seat for idle screw, poor spark and once going running very rich. Your o-ring idea solved the flooded chamber so Ive gotta get some of those teflon washers. !!!!!!! Thank you v.much WTBM for your Solutions and Experience !!!!!!! I had to trawl thru a large number of videos before finding yours explaining the problems you would get with the needle not seating.

    Great video! My Briggs re-build kit came with needle valve installation instructions that recommended leaving out the needle to float spring clip if the engine had a fuel pump. I can't say that alone solved my surging problem, because I cleaned the carb before I reinstalled it. The engine runs well, but the carb does have a very slight leak from the welch plug. Your excellent tutorial explains that issue very well. Thanks!

    Excellent videos; many thanks! My flow-jet (1960 8hp) leaks gas when its not running but doesn’t leak when it is running. The gas drips off the screw at the bottom of the oil bath air filter. I presume it’s coming from the emulsion tube? Where the gas leaks inside the carb and maybe dribbles out that screw? I have a carb rebuild kit ordered. Hoping to solve the problem. Your videos will really help-thanks again.

    I've been working on iron 8's the last few days.
    First one was sitting for many years inside the porch. It was a simple clean up on the carb and rewind. Smoothest up draft I've ever done.
    Last night I parted one out and it had a plugged needle and seat and the main butterfly only opened 1/4 the way. It had a shiny new emulsion tube in it and after I pulled it out the btttrfly opened up all the way. While reassembling I noticed the btttrfly issue again.
    The upper end of the e tube wasn't in the idle circuit tunnel, rather it was coming up the Venturi. I thought the emulsion tube was a different length but your video proved that that wasn't the case. It doesn't seem to be bent is there a way I can get it to go back into the idle circuit tunnel or am I going to have to buy a new one?

    • @terrymatthey5840
      @terrymatthey5840 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I leave the top loose till i get the tube in and seated . If tube is not bent , you may need to screw it in and guide the top into the hole . If it missed the hole and was tightened it may be bent . I have straightened some that were only slightly bent

      @@wtbm123 I found my box of spare carbs for the iron 8's. The emulsion tube has a bigger diameter than all the others that I have. It was shiny clean when I pulled it out. My guess is the previous owner purchased it to rebuild the carb and got the wrong one. I never knew their were bigger ones I have a smaller version from a tiller but now know their must be bigger ones as well.

  • @outspokengenius

    I just rebuilt one of these on a 12hp B&S engine because the old float was leaking. I'm now getting a steady drip from the bottom center of the carburetor when the engine isn't running. Running no drip, would this be due to me not having the emulsion tube seated correctly? Also is there a plug in the very bottom of the carburetor near the choke plate? That's where it seems to be leaking from, it doesn't seem to affect how the engine runs.

    • @wtbm123
      @wtbm123  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is a vent on the bottom of carb , and yes most likely the emulsion tube is probably what is leaking

    If the carburetor is worn out and leaking air around the butterfly shaft , is it better to find an old one or are the $25 China made okay to use ?

    • @wtbm123
