I really admire you guys, you're so brave, to fight without proper head guards and without using tapi tapi techniques. It is the nearest thing to real life fighting. Concerned about your type of head injuries you can get using fencing head gear against rattan sticks. Well done guys!
Richard Miller you are right these mascs can sustain a lot, on the other hand if you hit hard enough with a rattan stick you can knock out someone, even concussions are not rare after a hard blow to the head
Of course they could get knocked out, apparently it does happen every so often. People get knocked out in all combat sports though. At least the ones that take themselves seriously. The mask is to prevent serious damage, not all damage.
Richard Miller Assuming that you're talking about modern olympic fencing, those sabres are pretty flexible and designed to have low mass so they cant really deliver a lot of concussive force. A fencing mask is definitely rigid but they're really only meant (to the best of my knowledge) to deal with sport fencing blades that're almost like springs. I'm sure these guys don't have a ton of options to chose from and I really hope they don't get too badly hurt.
hi richard, there are other options with more protection, but we choose the fencing mask on purpose, to have a pretty good protection, but however not too much protection in order to keep it real
realistic is without protections, the fight would be completely different. here one receives a blow to the head, but due to the protection the fight continues furiously. what's realistic about that? ... just a tougher sport, that's all. or although they have sticks they prefer to resort to wrestling
we go hard but we also follow the golden rule: no judges, no referees, no trophies. one rule only: be friends at the end of the day! this means our goal is that no one spends the night in the hospital. our goal is that everyone leaves with the IQ with which they came. and we go with the slogan: the greater the dichotomy, the profounder the transformation. higher consciousness through harder contact.
not yet. but i hope we will have some guys in the future. the more multifarious fighters and styles we have at gatherings, the more interesting and valuable the experience will be for everyone
WTH? A few had skill and technique but the majority were just spastically flailing and praying that they hit something, anything. Until you replace the rattan with cattle prods and shock knives, this is the edged weapons equivalent of AirSoft in that anyone can stand tall and be a stud when he knows there's just a wack or three involved.
Just watched the whole video again excellent stuff!

You ever seen sabre style fencing? Those masks can take some solid blows for sure

Kicking when using a weapon. 200 IQ. If these were anything other than blunt sticks, everyone would be cut to shit. Interesting game plan
One day i will visit a gathering!! Especially while i still have health insurance hahaha
I hope i get to train with these guys some day
On a filipino eye, the style seems to be like a Arnis-MMA ehehe
