You're not allowed to defend yourself over there, you wait for the bystanders to call the police and 2 female officers will come to collect your corpse.
this is a good reminder that once weapons that have a reach much beyond punching range come into play, skill with said weapons becomes more important than anything else including size, strength and other fighting skills.
That's why the are considered force multipliers only idiots think they can stop a weapon bare handed. Weapon vs weapon is the only way to fight especially out numbered
Whoa it's amazing to see how effective some people are in martial arts , also really puts into perspective how diverse martial arts is basically its making your body into the most efficient tool 🔧
FMA is legit. Kudos to you for taking another road in your MMA journey and showing vulnerability. Humility is always waiting for us as we try. new things.
Bro this shit got me dying LOL Im sitting here thinking how overwhelming everything looked and I would end up shelling up and running away too. When he was hitting the bag I got scared for you lol. The panic screams and everything during sparring sent me lmao!
Usually, one can watch shoulders and elbows... but with this, even a flick of the wrist can inflict a lot of damage --- and there is no way to react in time. The stick has a lot of reach too. I have no clue how one defends against this (other than run). Awesome martial art.
I love that you're already an accomplished martial artist and fighter and then step out of your wheelhouse to something like this to grow more. Hell yeah.
that was cool. i really appreciated that. we spar a bunch here in san francisco although most FMA sparring has become more padded sticks to lower the entry barrier and blunt blades with fencing gear for the advanced guys. live stick sparring has become less popular other than dog brothers. would love to see more live stick sparring like this.
Filipino here! Just so you know, the stick-fighting is beginning level, afterwards you move onto knives (blunt of course when youre training) and then open-handed fighting once you mastered the previous ones. Let's say, you get conditioned by legit getting thrown into the fire.
So Jeff, well done, looks like a lot of fun! Your next step is to put on armor and join us in medieval combat. I’d love to have you Visit and train with us here in Japan, you could try some of our samurai armor.😁
FMA is fun. In a so called “real life self defence scenario” against a knife wielder, you need to accept that you’re going to the ER while minimizing the chances of ending up in the morgue.
Props to being open in regards to fear when dealing with a new form of sparring even with all your experience as an mma fighter. It's not a small thing to do that in front of thousands of people online.
Kali practitioner here. You can incorporate some long guard and semi-mma style footwork in Kali jeff. Your stick should be your lead hand and your rear hand should be covering your face. It is best also to use some karate footwork and using feints. Amazing video jeff didn't expected this goodjob❤❣
I just started stick fighting and Panantukan. It’s crazy how much different it is than hand to hand, first time I did a live drill I couldn’t even believe it lol
Man this video was awesome, props to you for giving it a go. For sure, it's easy to becoming overwhelmed by the attacks, especially with double stick sparring.
You are really a great martial artist. You just dont stay on an unarmed style of fighting but you also explore those armed/weapon based fighting styles.
Ive met a lot of martial artists and heard a lot of TH-camrs who all talked down about systems of Kali... they just never been whacked before. Great job trying something different Jeff
oh my god i so wish we had these armored equipments so we could spar in a safer manner hahah, you sure get great at self control by sparring with no armor though, but its a painful road there
Haha kinda funny to watch you get ur ass kicked. Im so used to u holding ur own cus ur so well rounded. Props for getting out of ur comfort zone man, inspiring
😂😂😂 that was exciting and funny at the same time. I was so hyped watching it and wish I was there to try it, especially the two handed combat 😁 Also really good vibes and your comments were really entertaining 👍
The Dr. was going so hard on Jeff who only did it for a couple of hours… Would also be interesting to see the sticks incorporated with MMA to see what would happen
Honestly, if a professional MMA fighter came to me to learn HEMA and to make a video about it, I would probably go hard as hell too just to not look incompetent in front of his audience.
This was the first time I saw you really unease with any fight exercises or in sparing.🙂 But you were much better as you would think, and to be honest your partner “overkilled”: unlike you do mostly, he didn’t adapt to your level, just to be a bit better, he rather always showed to much superiority and so you rarely could evolve your own reactions.
There are some crazy people who agree to go into the woods and do stick fights at full force without any protecting gear. They are fairly skilled people, but the point of it?
Muy bueno! El de traje negro con rojo solo pegaba cuando el otro dejaba de pegarle para darle aire y espacio. El de negro total le dio una paliza en el espacio real... Y con las armas de verdad y sin armadura gana el de negro.
Trying different martial arts is so much fun, and I can't express enough how long time hobby-ists should do it, and don't take a break from jiu jitsu to focus on judo. Take 3 months off and do Tai Chi, or maybe pick up fencing, something completely different. None of it matters, but it's just another fun physical activity that your body will enjoy doing. Tai Chi though was a blast, look up your closest school.
Well that seems fun! Does they involve wrestling or other strikes in kali? You said that you are scared but i think MMA is way more dangerous and intense (i do swordfighting and MMA so just comparing my experience). Your reflexes were actually sharp AF and you did so great fighting this style against experienced guy! :)
I actually cross train kali is part of our program, its a dangerous system and its hard to master everytime i see them i think to myself I know ill die if he really wanted to its terrifying how fast and effective they are with blades too ive watched their students too even the regular students would kill most men. However that being said kali isnt perfect and i stress doing live drills and respecting and acknowledge what works and what doesn't unfortunately there was a kali master at least thats what they claim maybe just a normal black belt who knows but he was stabbed to death during a robbery i dont know if he had a weapon on him but id assume he did.
A friend tried to argue with me that the kali stick is too lightweight to deal significant damage and that he would rather fight with bare hands I'm sure that's not what you felt?
Thats not true at all, rattan sticks can easily break hand bones because they can be swung really fast, I got hit in the left hand before and I couldn't use my left hand for weeks
@@MMAShredded Hey Jeff, I have a question though it's unrelated to the video. I box sometimes with my cousin and I have a problem of overreacting to punches and it puts me in a bad position. How can I work on not overreacting to punches? I try to relax and slip but sometimes I don't don't it fast enough and and get hit anyways. Any advice is appreciated.
That’s a great self defence martial art for people who live in London.

Holy Moly! Everything happened so fast, now imagine if that was a bladed weapon like how Kali was really intended to be used for.
Crazy!!
can you make a video about how to take care of fighting equipment? how to clean it properly etc.
Witik - means to flick. You use that to surprise attack actually. Feint attack, etc. Right timing and all can deal one damage and opponent is down.
Wow, that's cool. I can see where this can help ones reflexes. Thank You

Mr. Chan, you should really try Krabi Krabong (the weapon based MA from Thailand) 😁
