On AWD models, the front driveshaft runs through the oil pan, so you need to remove the axles and differential. also, the 4 parts in the engine valley are MDS solenoids, not knock sensors. they shut off 4 cylinders to save fuel under certain engine loads. I actually want to deactivate mine because the exhaust drone when cruising is terrible when the MDS kicks in.
Those aren't knock sensors in the valley of the engine under the intake manifold. Those are MDS solenoids. They are what makes the cylinder shut off when driving under normal conditions to save on gas.
good short vid. done with my build motor back in trying to remember how all the wiring harness went in. obvious stuff easy, its the lower sensors few plugs im lost on. have some left over plugs not sure where they go
very good and informative video, surely helps seeing what's involved in such a task, especially since I'm planning on doing power upgrades soon to my 2005 magnum rt. Appreciate your work
I'm changing my motor in a 2011 grand cherokee, is there anything that have to do after the new motor is in with the electrical, no modifications or do I have to flash as they say the computer?
also, those front axles are a notorious PITA to get out. they tend to seize together. I've replaced entire front drive assemblies before because of it.
how long did it take you to pull the engine. i have an 06 magnum R/T that needs a new crankshaft from a spun rod bearing and i was needing to know how long it would take to get the motor in the heated garage. its cold outside lol
Good advice to never put your arm under the motor. I lifted a motor with some pretty beefy but solid tow straps lent to me by a neighbor once while lifting a 500lb Mercedes diesel. I was desperate to lift the motor and adjust the motor mounts so instead of going to the store the next day and getting proper chains I used these. Strap broke and the falling engine would have taken my arm right off had I not moved it a few seconds before.
2 things, you removed the transmission and didn't take the torque converter bolts out? You have a lift and didnt drop the whole thing out from bottom? I'm hoping you did it the hard way to just show people who dont have a lift.
the engine was locked up so no way to access the converter bolts, yes you can drop it but look at all the extra that need to be removed, not to mention the unit will still need to be lifted to be moved for the repair. Thank you please like, share, and subscribe, also please check out my other channel Salem Taxi, on TH-cam for more material on a different level.
How did you disconnect the engine mounts? My engine mount bolts keeps spinning and there's no way to access it from the top so I'll have to remove the two side bolts where the mounts split on top! I have a 2006 300c AWD Hemi
I used the impact gun on one of the nuts and now the bolt is spinning but I was able to remove the side bolts and pull the engine out. Thank you. Great video!
Affirmative. I have damaged pistons, damaged cylinder heads, etc.. guess after fixing those I may as well replace the bolts. Never overheat the 5.7 HEMI engine or any engine. LOL. Thanks bud :)
for sure use NEW BOLTS, also if you have a good machine shop have the heads overhauled, they will last longer, also replace all the pistons . and the crank rods on the damaged pistons
Great video just one question my mechanic said he replaced my motor with one from 2011 it’s a 5.7 hemi mine was 2007 are the parts going to be the same for tuneups and what not also where do I find the cast number on the block so I know what year the motor came from thanks in advance
+Danny Bickel No its rear wheel Drive. What type of additional work are you referring to? If you are Referring to the AWD version, you may need to remove the forward differential to reach other required bolts. around the transmission
Those engine mounts are very similar to Mercedes, and it also has a front sump oil pan. The Hemi would probably swap well into an older Benz. less fab than the ls swaps
Hey Rufus I needed me a cole pak. Want trade a cole pak? I got a brain box for a phleetwud broham an a trottle body intake for a box car. Hey yo why yo gots a @6:34 some cadilac converters on yo dodge boy? Dats messed up. Bowtie an be alot cheeper than mopar shit anyway. Here in Houston, them hemi parts hard come by yo know mean?
Very nice run down of parts, location & even oil change & a bit of safety. Lots of info in a short, compact video. Thanks man.
Those 4 “knock sensors” that you pointed out in the valley are actually the MDS solenoids 🥲.
Just so no one gets confused 👍

+Brandon Siebert thanks
+Brandon Siebert I was just about to make a comment saying that but you beat me to it XD
I said the same thing those are mds plugs, you can get the fancy skanke metal ones
Gen 3 Hemi Extreme modern muscle i turned mines of with diablo i3 tune on my magnum
Do you have videos of rebuilding the motor
good short vid. done with my build motor back in trying to remember how all the wiring harness went in. obvious stuff easy, its the lower sensors few plugs im lost on. have some left over plugs not sure where they go
did you drain the trans fluid?
About how long did it take you from start to finish?
That's a good infomation. How many days does it take to change?
Good job.. and great point on safety keeping body out the way..

THANKS FOR WATCHING !!!! Please like share and subscribe, also check my other channel, Salem Taxi on YOU TUBE . Thanks.
I just got a 2005 Dodge Magnum RT. It is sweet.
what ever you do DO NOT LET IT RUN HOT.........EVER
frank jones Yup....it'll drop a valve seal and scorch a cylinder...ask me why/how I know this lol
Thank you so much for this!
What are those two metal lines running across the vally under the intake.. mine look pretty rusty
coolant lines

Nice video bro
Thx

Great video. Might be using this one day
Which bolts did you remove from transmission bell housing? I'm doing a engine replacement on 14 charger 5.7 hemi can't get transmission bolts lined up
all of them need to be removed when changing the motor
Great video bro. Do more
Thanks for the visit please subscribe
Do i need to support the trans
You can't drop it out the bottom?
do you have a How To for a DoDge 3.5
same way minus 2 cylinders.
how long did it take you to pull the engine. i have an 06 magnum R/T that needs a new crankshaft from a spun rod bearing and i was needing to know how long it would take to get the motor in the heated garage. its cold outside lol
with the proper tools not long. only 4 bolts hold it to the frame. the rest is accessory connections. unbolt all and pull it out
Dustin Angell I pulled this engine in about 4 or 5 hours...taking time to label things and whatnot
in my own vehicle of course
in my own vehicle of course
@@crazysexycool180 does this apply to 07 charge 5.7 rwd? Possible to drop it out the bottom?

awesome video tutorial, can definitely use this information. thank you.

remove the 2 bolts from under the frame that go into the bottom of motor mounts

when you replace the factory recommendation is to replace those mounting studs
Affirmative. I have damaged pistons, damaged cylinder heads, etc.. guess after fixing those I may as well replace the bolts. Never overheat the 5.7 HEMI engine or any engine. LOL. Thanks bud :)

Have an 07 AWD and having trouble finding another AWD engine does it really matter if it come out of an AWD or a Rwd car?
No, Same motor. just different drivetrains.
Great video just one question my mechanic said he replaced my motor with one from 2011 it’s a 5.7 hemi mine was 2007 are the parts going to be the same for tuneups and what not also where do I find the cast number on the block so I know what year the motor came from thanks in advance
Is this an awd hemi? If not, is there additional work that must be done?
+Danny Bickel No its rear wheel Drive. What type of additional work are you referring to? If you are Referring to the AWD version, you may need to remove the forward differential to reach other required bolts. around the transmission
Good Job Bra. Real deal info.
I have everything except the front wheel stuff. does anyone know of a good resource for removal of the front gearing to remove the engine completely?
+Danny Bickel use a transmission jack. Remove the front cv axels first.
yep I like this
in my opinion its way easier to drop the motor and trans as one. lifting the body off.
Those engine mounts are very similar to Mercedes, and it also has a front sump oil pan. The Hemi would probably swap well into an older Benz. less fab than the ls swaps
Well, I think the Hemi was designed during a time when Mercedes owned Chrysler, so that makes sense that they could be similar.
when I do these, I just drop the whole thing out the bottom.
i'm thinking the same thing. i have an awd magnum with the hemi. i have a car lift.
my brother has a 2006 chrysler 300 srt8. we,re putting headers on it but dont have a lift. talk about a nightmare
@@ChrisCarpenter-d5e I put SRT8 headers on my hemi and it was a pain in the ass
Do you knoe the reason for that hemi going out?
these engines are bad about dropping valve seats in the combustion chamber.
Artistry Photography when it drops the valve does it happen randomly?
Artistry Photography or at a certain milage?
random, seems to happen after an over heating event,
So they're not what you say they are those are MDS solenoid
Never leave the torque converter connected to the fly wheel
If dodge owner are watching a dodge maintenance video. We don’t want to see a ford commercial
They are not. KNOCK SENSORS THEY ARE CALLED MDS MULTI DISPLACEMENT SOLENOID WHICH SHUTS OF 2 OF THE CYLINDERS ON THE HIGHWAY SO YOU CAN SACE GAS
not two but four cylinders
nice
