      depends on what you consider old tech.
      Is something thats 10 years old considered old tech?
      They probably aren't gonna show the most cutting edge designs/prototypes which they are working on right now, because they don't fully exist yet.

      that isnt how it works, especially for something like this. its capabilites, construction techniques, mission profiles, and technology are kept secret, but there is no power projection by showing a half completed version to the world, if they had one fully ready and in service

    Whats sad is that i read a paper back in 1982 while in college detailing why this shape of submersible was actually more versatile, efficient (and quieter) than the cylindrical ones being produced. They'd done lots of tests with models and found that a craft designed for 'flying' in the denser medium of water like an aircraft flys in air would have some significant advantages as an attack vehicle over traditional shaped adversaries.
    Yet it took this long to happen.

    • @tunejunky
      @tunejunky หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      the computational power needed to design and the materials needed to make this with didn't exist in the 80's, let alone the new type of power delivery systems required to make this a reality. this is a true denizen of the deep with the only logistical requirement being only for tactical missions...reloading.

      @@Nainara32 “why do planes have wings? Cant they just strap rockets underneath and fly out of the atmosphere?”
      Just like the air, water is a fluid, and having fins makes it much easier and less energy intense to change direction.
      All those “tubes” you see are for research or naval vessels designed for extreme depths. This drone is designed to loiter close to the surface of the water where it isn’t at a high pressure.

    @ninehundreddollarluxuryyac5958 หลายเดือนก่อน

    It must be made to carry something very heavy or physically large. It has a very draggy lifting body design and thick wings compared to a Slocum glider. I wonder what the propellers do. They will make sound whether they push the glider or create electricity by windmilling. Whatever motor or generator they are connected to will make sound as magnets distort the metal. Thats why electric motors cannot be completely silent and silence is an underwater glider's best trick as far as stealth goes. It is possible to make actuators that make no noise at all, but I don't see that here. Maybe its a red herring for Russia and China to try and copy.

Say the ships detect our Submarine and are deploying massive amounts of firepower against our sub. So our sub discovered it needs more support in the water to help fight against the ships. So under water a hatch on the large nuclear sub opens releasing up to 5/10 of these swift and deadly new fire support system for under/above water warfare. These drones able to carry maneuver under water really well to get close to the enemy ship then launch 3 torpedoes at them or even because of how good there stealth is it can attach to the hull and place an explosive device then leave
