I was in a Polish/ Ukraine border refugee camp. And I was deeply ashamed of the UK. I saw fleets of luxury coaches moving women and children all over Europe. I spoke with the bilingual "intake " volunteers. And it was the UK and Canadians who were regarded as the worse countries to receive help from.
And this idea refugees flee to the UK because its "so great" (lol) is a joke. They flee to the UK because they are taught English in school. They have a little knowledge of language.
And yes I felt ashamed to be British again.
