Thank you for the detailed description. My KZ650's starter is doing the same thing (of course). Good thing we don't mind using the kick start. I could see on the diagrams what part was likely the cause but I wasn't too keen on pulling apart the engine. After seeing your video and knowing the failing parts are not available, good reason to use the kick start. Thanks
My GPZ900 makes a clacking sound every now and again as I am cranking it over before the engine fires up. Is that the starter clutch? I have had the bike for many years and it has always done it.

I’ve the same issue ! Ahhh. Do you Have to split the case to rebuild the starter clutch ? Not exciting :(
what does it take to remove the alt

My GPZ900 does it too, I have seen exploded views of the engine and gearbox and I am pretty sure it is the same as this one.
