  • @MetalGearDavid57

    The best thing about this scene is that it doesn't do the stereotypical anime thing where they're standing and facing each other having flashbacks or internal monologue. It's just powerful and meaningful music set over a grisly scene, and the writers assume you have the emotional intelligence to comprehend the atmosphere instead of just narrating it to you and telling you what to feel. In fact, the whole OVA is like that. That's what made it great.

    • @carlosluismendez7392

      @@MetalGearDavid57 Nope, you need to watch more japanese cinema instead of adaptations of shonen manga. And this can be call more stereotypical because the way the action is done here has roots in 60 years of tradition. Japanese action is really like this, it takes a moment of calm, then explode and ends very fast. That's why the tried to do something different with the live action movie because the action director had a lot of experience in action movies from Hong Kong.

    • @MetalGearDavid57
      @MetalGearDavid57 4 ปีที่แล้ว +25

      @@carlosluismendez7392 You also do realize I said stereotypical anime right? Anime doesn't account for the entirety of Japanese cinema.

    • @carlosluismendez7392
      @carlosluismendez7392 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MetalGearDavid57 . Anime took elements from Japanese Cinema for his style of storytelling from the very beginning because that's what Osamu Tezuka said to his animators at Mushi pro back in the day, 'just go and learn cinematic techniques'. What you call stereotypical anime are just shonen manga tropes.

      Because it's an OVA. While not always the case, OVAs generally have better quality animation compared to television series since they aren't rushed out the door. They're basically in-between the quality found in anime series and theatrical movies.

    • @stormcutter59
      @stormcutter59 2 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      @@Sawngawkuh No. I'm tired of hearing this argument. It's just an excuse. Their are tons of modern OVAs that have the budget and the workmanship like this did, more even, but they don't capture the style of handrawn animation like this one does. It's a difference in method and intention, as well as skill honestly. They don't make them like this anymore. Not saying their aren't good animes but I honestly can't call most of them classics like Rurouni Kenshin and Trigun.

    • @Sawngawkuh
      @Sawngawkuh 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@stormcutter59 One, it's not an "excuse," it's an explanation. An explanation that even applied far back then when this came out. OVAs generally (NOT ALWAYS, but GENERALLY) look better than TV series, be it during the 80s, 90s, or today.
      Two, no one was talking about style and art direction, just animation quality in general. When it comes to more nuanced elements like the direction of scenes and art styles, I do share the same sentiment where I prefer the more gritty and adult look that's seldomly seen these days outside of seinen manga and only a few anime.

    When anime is art, not a modern joke. This scene is perfect. I tried to look for something similiar, but fights in this ova (this one and first with tomoe boyfriend) made so quick and deadly that it looks like real fights. Even that jumping on roof killer. Camera work, shifting between speachless characters, dropped sword, animated blood covering her umbrella. Well, I believe i there will be no more something comparable. Some Kenshin vibes was in House of Five Leaves, but its more about decoration, not fights. There is almost no fights at all.

The reason behind his sweet and innocent talk, the reverse blade, all hiding in those scars, revealed in a masterpiece called Trust and Betrayal. @@umarmuhtadin3784 No, it's like comparing the different kind of cuts of beef, all from the same franchise, all from the same cow, but different parts.
      Comparing beef to chicken is like comparing Rurouni Kenshin to Teletubbies, how dumb is that?

    What's crazy about this scene is that the assassin sacrificed himself for the greater good, just like the assassins in the snow later in the film.
