- Fun little video I made using poking fun at the recent news that Disney is shutting down the Star Wars hotel. I had a lot of fun editing and adding the voice over on this
All footage is protected under fair use.
I know no one reads this far but if you do, understand i'm actually kind of sad this is closing down as I would have loved to stay there. Perhaps one day I'll make a video about it and why Disney thought this would actually work.

yeah i used Elevenlabs AI and it works really well if you can get a good clean audio sample.
I think AI voice generation is going to be huge for the modding community.
I mean you could do fully voiced companions for games like Skyrim super easily.
@@SpacedLogic It’s truly amazing how far all of that has come along, I still remember using fax machines and VHS tapes and now we have computers emulating various popular personalities (and accurately as well) I wish I could see how far it comes before I depart this mortal coil but I’m glad I’ve been here for the events which I have witnessed!

The funny thing is, the Galatic Starcruiser concept might have worked as a cruise ship, where you're already confined to the location anyway. But here, you're taking people at a theme park resort and forcing them to not experience the actual resort for two days ... when they could just get a place any of the hundreds of nearby hotels and enjoy multiple theme parks with actual rides for less than the price of staying at the Galatic Starcruiser.
And anyone who could afford to go there would probably much rather stay at an actual ultra-luxe hotel.
Honestly, if you did this, it would make more sense to make the Coral Vanda floating casino from Timothy Zahn's Dark Force Rising book, from the Thrawn Trilogy. That would be cool.
Right. Nobody has to feel like they're actually in space. A multiday costume party on the ocean is plenty.

yup that was the reason i made this video. I was getting footage for a longer video talking about why this failed and saw this ad. I couldn't stop laughing at that part and just had to make this. It's just like why would you make that a part of your ad?

@@SpacedLogic Heh--when we did it, there actually were ppl who sided with the FO. Me, I worked with the Captain as a double agent, reporting on their plans. I lament that they couldn't get the price-attendance balance to work (I blame the advertising), but it was absolutely stunning for me.
I mean, the rebellion are the bad guys, 100%. Maybe the original trillogy rebels weren't, but the disney rebels are. They seek to reinstate the old republic, minus the jedi influence. And since the old republic were sadistic slavers who only stopped slaving after they were forced to by the jedi, we can be sure the new republic will be much worse than the old empire ever was.
Should have themed it after the OT and made it more affordable for families to stay there. It likely would have been quite successful. but no, Disney was like, "Let's theme it after the trilogy nobody liked and make it uber-expensive!" It really makes you wonder how these executives making millions of dollars could botch something this bad (which could have been an easy home run). What an abysmal failure for Disney.
I think they were actually aiming for system agnostic to keep it somewhat Avatar themed tbh... Not that that helps or is better, Avatar isn't known for spaceships.
They’re all rich people who figured that there are plenty of people willing to pay a small fortune (for most of us) to have a once in a lifetime experience. It really goes to show just how out of touch these people are.
If they had modeled it after the OT, wouldn't they owe George some money? I know they bought it from him but I think he still retains certain legal right with regards to the OT.

Have you gone? It was amazing. I've saved up to go one more time before it closes. I wish it was cheap enough for more ppl to experience, but I saw value for every cent I spent. :( The trailer's hilarious, but the real thing is just stunning.

@@LaurenceQuint Can confirm. It was like being on a LARP funded by a multimillionaire Star Wars fan. Was worth every cent I saved up for it.
They would've made more money buying a plot of desert in new mexico, building a sort of village surrounded by those lonely huts from Tatooine and themed it after Mos Eisley. The huts would've made for better private retreat homes anyway and then the Mos Eisley village could function as a proper resort village on its own, just in costume. Infinitely cheaper, more attractive to fans, a location that could do themes for Original, Prequel, Sequel, and Disney+ Show material since Tatooine is practically where all the important stuff happens in all the series (or similar desert planets)

All you really needed was the clip of Donald Gennaro from "Jurassic Park," where he says: "And we can charge anything we want -- two thousand a day, ten thousand a day -- and people will pay it! And then there's the merchandise . . . !" 😉
Oh, well, so much for my dream of being a voice actor, if everything's going to be done by rentable AI . . . .

Others have said it best. If this hotel were less expensive and based abound the original trilogy, it would’ve been amazing. I would want to see the original storm troopers, Darth Vader and maybe the bar could be the Mos Eisley cantina scene. That would’ve been cool. But it was based on Disney’s remake with Rey. No wonder it failed.
The original artwork/concepts was much closer the original trilogy...they were going down the correct path then they went to the Iger/Kennedy route.

@@stoves5877 Because Galaxy's Edge was originally planned to have three themed lands, Tatooine, Bespin, and Endor. Kennedy convinced Iger/Chapek to change it and tie into her trilogy instead to boost her flagging failures influence and gain more fans for them. Tatooine became Batuu and the rest are on hold now because of less than expected popularity. It is because of her narcissistic suggestions both on screen and off being heralded as visionary only to end up in failure that resulted in limiting her control and Chapek being forced to step down.
Basically she's an insidious Sith Lord using her power and influence to sway the galaxy and the Magic Kingdom to her twisted and evil vision.

No, Galaxy''s edge was always going to be 1 part of the park. it was not going to be a 5th park. That's an insane thing to think.
KK has absolutley NO input on Park operations. She isn't even in the same company. She works at Lucasfilm Not at Disney Parks.
From what it sounds like to me, you're paying for at least one actor every minute of your stay. So there was no way they could do this for much less than the amount they're charging. This was always targeted at the top 10%. But how often are they going to want to come back for the same story? And the reason the top 10% is the top 10% is they're not going to waste their money on crap like this.
I went. We're going again right before it closes. Not perfect, but stunning. I'm coming up with a new character this time because there was more story than I could participate in last time. It's like playing a video game again.
“It failed because its themed after the sequels” No it didn’t this hotel could’ve been themed around any of the trilogy’s and still failed just because of the price alone.
Now if it cycled between trilogy’s every month or bi-monthly and had its price be made affordable then this hotel could’ve been a success. Because even though I love all Star Wars even if this was affordable I would’ve gotten bored with the sequel theme after awhile.
They should have sold Death Sticks in the cantina.
The price tag alone was already more than enough to get people to go home and rethink their lives.
Cant believe they needed to shut this down. Even Leia and Han Solo had their honey moon on this thing in the official canon after all.

Not to mention, you have to be staying in another Disney resort AND have tickets to Hollywood Studios. Souvenirs and fancy drinks not included. XD

I know this is supposed to make things sound bad...but ...a lot of this is literally what I wanted as a kid and the rest mostly makes this sound even better than any ads Disney could have put out there.
It really was amazing. It's crazy to say, but the crew puts every cent of that price to work. I'd rather do this than a "real" cruise or a luxury hotel full of Audi drivers with golf scores and mistresses.

My wife and I are queer. It was remarkably cathartic to be sabotaging the First Order as Florida was slipping into fascism. Since quite a few of the crew are queer (Theater kids. Who'd guess?) we bonded. A lot.
This is ironically a better ad for the galactic star cruiser - I’m mildly interested in this.
Tbh the experiance itself was actuly quite cool its just not worth the asking price. had it been part of the price of your park entry and just been a attraction it probs would have been one of the most interesting things in the park. If they was to do something like this again they need to think that hey maybe chargeing almost half an avrage persons yearly wage for 2 nights probaly wont bring enough buisness to keep the hotel open. fact is alot of people did want to go to this despite the negativity online but noone was willing to pay 12 grand for it
It never could cost less, the price of the actors alone already costs that much. The idea was idiotic to begin with from a product standpoint.

Ah, to be such accurate in laughing about it, you might be one of the few wealthy people or influencers that have the chance to experiment it.
As one of the fans that is from the large majority that didn't had such pleasure, I still feel a bit sad for its closure.
From all reports I've heard from non-shill sources, the actual experience was top notch and the closest thing you'd get to that old-school Disney World vibe from the 80s as far as the entire thing being immersive and fun without being overly cheesy.
Unfortunately, at the prices they were charging, it was inevitable that after the flurry of wealthy superfans and influencers packed in for the first few months, attendance would absolutely crater.
I wouldn't be surprised if they re-open a no-frills version of it as a dinner show at some point.

I don't think the OT would have mattered. But the price was a big feature especially given the quality of it. I mean it's nice but it's mid rage nice. Like getting a 5 Guys burger is nice and worth the $10 or whatever it costs but if you charged $100 for that same burger the quality isn't up to that level

an interesting point. I believe this is the hardest thing to do when a fandom gets as large as Star Wars is. Since we have fans from the OT, the PT, and the ST they all want different things. I think it's impossible to make 1 single Star Wars product that every fan likes.
Even the Mandalorian is divides fans.
@@SpacedLogic well said. Maybe I just speak for myself but I don’t think it’s unreasonable to have resorts that represent a more complete picture of the franchise. Ep 1 to Ep 9 takes place across 67 years and so far both attractions, Galaxies Edge and Halcyon, represent roughly a one year time frame. Apart from the preposterous cost of stay, the fact that they’re catering to such a small percentage of the total fan base was itself setting themselves up for failure.
@@mertz7305 Exactly my thought. Ultimately, it's an economics question. Galactic Starcruiser didn't need to be perfect for every person, it needed to be good enough for enough people to be financially viable. GS cut its pie slice way too small, first by only being available to people willing to lay down several thousand dollars on a 1.5 day experience, then basing that experience on a narrow slice of their available assets.

Having gone, this is funny, but not accurate. It was VERY pricey, not gonna lie. But it was also an experience I'll never forget. You gotta be into LARP or atvleast RPing/improv, but it's incredibly immersive! Every cast member down to the lady cleaning the rooms committed to the setting, and all of them were visibly having FUN with it. The advertising really didn't carry the intensity of the experience. We made FRIENDS on the cruise (passengers AND crew) who we stay in touch with. It cost a lot, but I saw the value of every cent we spent. There's probably a way to do a cheaper version, but it wouldn't be...THIS. I'm deeply sad it's closing. I'd save up and go again.
It is something I really wanted to do but I just couldn't justify the price.

Anyone know why they actually charged so much? I’ve stayed at Travelodges with more space and better amenities in the rooms. The ‘ interactive’ screen fixtures look like early 2000s tech too. Is it to prop up the actors fees? Can’t imagine they have amazing salaries.

Most of that actually sounded pretty awesome but the honest ad doesn’t mention that pretty much everything in the ad is an up charge on TOP of the price of a used automobile.

It’s not 3 nights it’s 2 nights 3 days but the third day isn’t really real since you leave the ship at 10 am after breakfast so it’s really two days total

I wonder what will be done with the physical starcruiser set/hotel. It must have cost a fortune to build. Will Disney just dismantle it? Perhaps they can repurpose it as a Star Wars mini-mall or something.
i'm going to talk about that in an upcoming long video but it looks like it will just sit there abandoned. They are going to just write it off as a tax deduction which means they won't be allowed to repurpose it.
