Ben Lomond - Summit camping above the clouds.

- I know I say "it doesn't get much better than this" in my videos quite often. But it honestly doesn't in this video. We would all love to wake up high above the clouds with no wind and photograph the sunrise.
Ross and I headed to Ben Lomond after work on Fri 14th Aug 2020 and climbed to the summit. We arrived and pitched our tents in the dark and in the clouds. I poked my head out the tent at 2am and the sky was lit up with stars. It was at that point I knew we were above the clouds.
I spent an hour shooting the stars with zero wind on the summit. I got back up at 4.30am to shoot the sunrise.
What an amazing and memorable trip that I will cherish for years to come.
Equipment used -
Cameras - SONY A7r, Panasonic G7, dji Mavic Pro 2.
Lenses - Sony 16-35mm f4, Sony Zeiss 55mm f1.8, Samyang 135mm f2, Panasonic 14-144mm.
All music written and produced by myself, another passion of mine.

Totally awesome. Doing research on my town of Ben Lomond, California I came upon your video. It's probably the best summit campsite I have ever seen. Being at the top is always my favorite. Thanks for sharing. Superb drone footage. New subscriber.

Thanks mate. Yeah the summit was busy. There were a few others camping not far from the summit as well plus a few people hiked up for sunrise. That's one of the only downfalls of it being the closest Munro to Glasgow, we never had the summit to ourselves lol atb, Graham

When is the best time of year to do this as clearly winter is no good with 40mph winds and minus 13 😂 my good lady is a photographer and dying to do this after seeing this video. Keep up the good work! And was is just me that felt like skimming a stone along the clouds?

Hi, you can get inversions at any time of year tbh. I normally check an app called clear outside which tells u the low, med and high cloud covering. U obv want a lot of low cloud and 0 high and medium. 👍 Hope this helps a bit 👍 atb Graham

@@GrahamWilliamson1985 she downloaded The app and now looking at that site. The other site we use is www.windy.com also shows live Web cams all over the mountains. And nullschool for severe weather. Thaks again dude. Can't wait for next video
brilliant video mate, im new to camping and was just wondering if your allowed to camp on ben lomand all year round or if your only allowed on specific months of the year ?
Hi there. I think u would be OK to camp on the summit or higher up on the hill. The by-laws are in place along the shore around the loch from April to Oct I think.

Cracking video. What was the site/app you used that showed the low cloud forecast?
Hi Nicholas. It's an app called clear outside. I put it in the video beside the forecast but it wasn't very clear. 👍 It's a great app. I use it all the time, usually checking to see if there's going to be any high altitude clouds, they usually light up at sunset. 😉

@@nicholasbreslin5398 we parked in the car park at the bottom of the hill. Was a few other in the car park. By the time we came down there was a massive queue waiting to get in. The weather is looking similar for 2mo morning btw 😉 might be worth a bash.

I'm an Inverness boy but have lived in North Wales since I was 11 (30 years ago) I love the Welsh mountains but gotta say your channel is tempting me to get up to Scotland soon.

Thanx so much for those views and impressions. Truly amazing. I had planed to be in Scotland right now, but for obvious reasons its not possible with this mess of measures. I miss the Highlands very much, but I try to stay positive. The scene beginning at 6:32 would be great for a longer video with just music (for endless playback)

Superb . How do you do these panoramic photos? How many pictures? Vertical? Thank you for the video.
Hi, I try different things when I'm on location. Depending on what I need to fit in the scene. The only pano in this is the one with the tents and the sun rise. I used 2 images shot at around 21mm, stitched in light room and distortion corrected in photoshop. 👍
