    OMG FREE EPIC CONTENT ON TH-cam! Please don't become like drive!!!!

      @SWatchik 10 ปีที่แล้ว +32

      Well XCAR is funded by FOX... so they won't. Drive produces a wider variety of arguably better content for a much smaller budget/profit margin. So stop whining when they ask for a bit of money to put food on the table and carry on producing great content.

      Drive has a deal with NBC, but I think what's ruined Drive is bad management, they had over a year to diversify their source of revenue, why didn't they a Drive website, why didn't they just make a second channel for vlogs and behind the scene and funny bloppers on which they could salvage a lot of content they've already filmed anyway and make tons of money out of it, why didn't they make a mobile app that would use the website as a source of feed, why didn't they look for partners for direct ads in video..;....ect ect

    • @SWatchik
      @SWatchik 10 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      InitialDAmine because ad revenue doesn't generate enough to fund all of that... why is that so hard to understand? youtube money is shit. The NBC funding is only recent and they wouldn't be able to post that content for free on youtube anyway.

      did you even read my comment? Not only you are clueless about youtube partner program and how it works and how Drive came to, but you didn't even read the part where I clearly stated that they had over a year, to diversify their revenue resources and they did NOT and I gave some examples, there are channels that produce as much if not more content that Drive and they are doing just fine, because they managing their business properly. Do you really believe that Drive+ would save the Drive channel? that's only a delusion coming from someone who cannot manage a business.

    I don't quite agree with labeling it a Supercar. This is not a supercar IMO. A great Sports car? Definitely. But a "supercar"....meh, it just doesn't feel like one. that's just my opinion though.

    • @trevorlbennett
      @trevorlbennett 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I guess the R8 V8 is also not a SuperCar, what about the Vantage V8, Maserati GT V8, 911 Carrera?

    • @kezboy1
      @kezboy1 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Trevor Bennett Well I consider all those to be sports cars. The Audi R8, when it came out, was a super car, as it was competitive with all the other super cars at the time. The Maserati is a GT, as is Aston Martin, Although Aston themselves call the Vantage a "Sports car". Nonetheless, as I originally said, it's my opinion, you have yours.

    I don't like the misleading way they claim this and other cars can go "electric all the way" when it only does 20 miles. That's literally useless unless you're only driving for a few minutes a day. I will basically use gas 99% of the days most people drive it. Just go full electric and stop wasting time on this. The Tesla's 7 seater already outperforms this 2 door "supercar". I like the carbon fibre and design direction but the rest seems overpriced and over-hyped.

    The idea of a concept car is pretty simple. The clue's in the name. They're about conceptualising ideas. The production cars that result from it are never going to be the same, and they were never meant to be. That said, most of BMW's recent "concept" cars have more or less just been the production cars anyway. Take a look at the "concept" version of the 4 series.
    I'm not sure I like this i8 though. I mean, it looks cool (except the wheels in my opinion), but I don't really like the way they've done the hybrid stuff. It still feels like it's two separate drivetrains stuck in to a single body. That doesn't sit right with me. I much prefer it the way the P1 does, where the electric stuff is kind of like a supercharger that compliments the combustion engine instead. Also, you have to wonder what this car would be like if they could have saved some weight and focused on just putting a more powerful combustion engine in.

    Technology is moving on and as he said in ten years time every car will be powered by a hybrid system, the downside though is that struggling companies that build great cars like Lotus etc will struggle as the development costs are going to be so high. I think a lot of smaller car companies will go out of business which is a shame.

    • @alexanderyoung8628
      @alexanderyoung8628 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, I agree, all internal combustion engined cars cause greenhouse emissions. It's certainly worse to have a V8 over a VW, but both will cause pollution. We're already experiencing the consequences of over a century of pollution, and the time for cleaner and more renewable energy sources and uses is long overdue. It's important for us to start acting immediately to reduce our carbon footprint, and cars are a large part of this. Hybrid systems aren't perfect, but they're a step in the right direction, and these are steps we should've been taking for a long time.

    Overpriced, underpowered, overhyped, and drowning in pretentious BMW fans. Looks cool though.
    For just over half the price you could get a Corvette that would run circles round it in every performance category- if you were buying a car for performance.
    And for the same price you could get a Model S that's actually worth the hype generated about it- if you were buying a car for cool factor.
    This is something bandwagon jumping hippies with money buy, who are into the BMW badge. It'll do well in the showrooms, but it's not exactly an enthusiasts car. That vaunted BMW badge used to mean a lot more than it does now.

  • @TheJusticeCross
    @TheJusticeCross 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    Brilliant. I don't really care about emissions because your simple car won't save the world but the most important is that if you want you can do a roadtrip during your holidays, enjoy the car all day long, during for example 3000 km, for no more than 500€ of fuel, whereas a 911/R8 would have costed you three or four times this price, with a stop at the gas station every 500 km.

    With that amount of torque and horsepower, and weighing as much as it does, the i8 could easily do sub-4 second 0-60mph times with more sporty gearing. But BMW made a nice compromise between quickness and economy/emissions. I just hope there are enough people willing to lay down that amount of cash for this car. I'd love to see them on the road on a regular basis, and I hope it doesn't die out quickly because of the price.

  • @Dgannt
    @Dgannt 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    Always said, once there is a big enough market the giants will enter. As he says i3 and i8 are BMW's first efforts in the hybrid market with purpose built vehicles and not reworked existing models. And they have already sold a tone of them.
    Soon there will be BMW i1, i2, and i3 with batteries and 0,5L and 1,0L petrol engines for the masses. And sports cars like i8 but even better. And of curse the other giants will fallow.
    These kind of cars are the viable cars of the future until there is a real and expanded infrastructure for battery only car. Cars that cost less than their petrol counterparts, can be charged everywhere (and not a supercharger every 250 miles) and also can be charged in max 5 minutes on the way. A bit longer at home, but not in 15 hours.

    I really can not see this car being anything close to a 911 in the bends. Just look at the tires, they are hard and pathetically skinny; for efficiency I know. But I think your giving it way to much credit. Sorry, but I think your nose is caked in BMW brown.

    What i hate is the fake exhaust sound BMW is putting on all their cars now. If Triumph can make their 3 cylinder bike sound incredible with nothing more than a good pipe, why can't BMW do the same. Make it sound amazing in reality, not in the TRON universe.

  • @coolerdude44

    never understood the need to make low-volume high-budget sports cars eco-efficient. so few of them are purchased and the ones that are are only driven a fraction of the amount that mainstream cars are driven.
    i guess the technology is meant to trickle down, but why can't low volume $100,000+ sports cars be the realm of old fashioned visceral auto design? for the 1 day per week blast, i want to feel a haughty v8 engine note tickling my spine. for the other 6, i'd be happy to drive an electric or hybrid car, and i'd be doing my part to help the environment.

  • @AleksisPelli

    I love it. The only thing I'm missing, is a huge, proper exhaust pipe! I mean, come on now. It's a super car, it needs one. To think that cool aluminium pipe would destroy its eco image, that's just stupid. Sports cars = exhaust sounds = exhausts.

    I saw a blue i8 in person and it's more impressive than a Veyron in my opinion. It's a type of car that just doesn't belong on the city streets, almost like an iPhone in the Jurassic period. Although, I don't understand why you need the hybrid technology in this car. If you can afford one of these then that means you are somewhat wealthy and can afford petrol and wouldn't be driving in economy mode all the time. It's an awesome car never the less.

    BMW should use this chassis, put the twin turbo v8 in it along with some fatter tires, and you'll have a real BMW supercar!

    I think Citroen should refresh the GTbycitroen concept they did a few years back, make it a little more road worthy and it could give this car a serious run for its money.

    This car is not made for the racetrack... and for that it`s not a true sportscar! It has fake sound, it is to heavy....(1600 kg even with that carbon monocoque cause of the heavy batteries), can not take heavy g`s with that small tyres and after 2-3 hot laps your batterie is draining and all the other cars and for sure the 911 (which he always talked about) will eat you up with ease! Whats the point of a sporty car wen you now it only lasts for a couple of minutes before your down to your 1.5 litre 3 cylinder..?!?

    • @Firemarioflower

      Brandon Mochel SPeed isn't everything. Sure it may come close to a 911. But taht is just fucking irreleavnt. It's about the feel. Those new age hypercars lack soul, a communicative bonding that you used to have with the supercars, a genuine reaction instead of the digitised trash. A car that lets you know through the wheel how it's doing. like those 90's beauties. But no, the computer arranges everything, it's no fun, and it makes no authetnic sound. Everything is decided for you and you STILL have to choose 5000 driving modes. Drives me nuts.
      Where are the times that BMWs were proper driver's cars, ultimate steering machines wtih precision other than robots that don't make anyone's heart beat?
      You do whatever you numb, mindless herdfollowing chump. You lack spine. IF you honestly can ignore a legend with a V10 tower of power with a more honest feedback than this nerdy and useless fake mobile, that looks utterly retarded (better design? HAH!) it's all numbers and no show.
      The R8 is also a great daily driver. But at least it's got sportscar heart, this i8 has NONE of that. You made the wrong choice. You'll regret it and i'll laugh and said i told you so.
      'everyday'. A sportscar is for FUN you silly. Not for everyday driving. You spoiled brats don't know what you want. Comfort is for pussies. Learn to drive a real car.
      I know your driving habits. Pretty sloppy.
      That's why you need a shitty eco-fascist minger to save all your mistakes.
      I'd choose a 300.000 mile R8 over any of these pumped up Priuses that have a battery that will last just a couple of weeks.
      At least the R8 has a decent design, decent adn well built dashboard without stupid shit to distract you.
      Science?? Supercars aren't science, they're not supposed to be geeky science, they're about passion and drama and pleasure and feelling like living a dream, playing around and enjoying yourself. having a damn SOUND for that matter. A REAL MECHANICAL ENGINE SOUND.
      Not about this Ring laptimes bullshit and green rubbish or having to show off with all numbers and gay details no ordianary human being that drives a regular car understands.
      Or having to drive it daily. 'smooth' oh just shut up. This is so stupid.
      All they proved is that they lack principles, values, and don't care about love for the process, or care about the petrolhead scene.
      Intelligence is overrated. Especially with BMW, who now copy Kias.
      The i8 is no beast. It's a timid pussy car. BMW is dead. Lamborghini lives on. They know how it works.
      If it's really more than enough for a daily driver, why don't they just shut the fuck up and buy a 4 serie 3 cyilnder?
      Your positive propaganda is meaningless and just marketing talk. I don't buy it.

    Great review Alex you set the benchmark for reviews with drones etc 6 yrs ago, and ref I8 being a polymath of a car, you have understood it fully sir on the button.... over last 6 yrs most keyboarders think eh 3 cylinder nah and have lampooned it despite not driving it!! Koeniggsegg don't they have embraced the concept for a car selling for £1m !!
    I have had 3 of them - my latest the Roadster was 40% off list (same discount as the Z8 I got in 2003 for £60k and they are now £200k)- if you have £70-75k to invest 10 plus years BUY A ROADSTER ONLY 2500 MADE WORLDWIDE / NOW FINISHED WILL BE MASSIVELY LAMENTED IN A DECADE + it's a better bet than FTSE as they will be £150k plus in ten years and £500k in 40 yrs like the hitherto also unloved discounted in 80/81 E26 M1 I have ! WHEN THEY ARE GONE FROM DEALERS, THEY ARE GONE !!

    It is a nice review, but it suffers the same problem as most other i8 reviews: admiring the sound of the 3-cylinder ICE. Of course it sounds much better than what you would expect from a 3-cylinder engine, because it is not the REAL sound, it is a FAKE sound from the speakers. It's like playing an mp3 of a real sportscar. What you hear is NOT the real sound of the engine!

    Ya that's great and all but why can't they put all this weight savings in an actual car instead of compensating for the batteries! If they put this much effort into a regular sports car it would be amazing they could make the m3 or m4 now like 2 pounds I mean really and additionally if this is a sports car I don't see much modding capabitites in the future I mean to my knowledge u can't really mod electric engines? And they have pretty much juiced all they can get out I that engine were as a 335i 500$ for a jb4 gets you 380hp and 420 torque and another 100 for a DCI intake and your at 400hp and 420torque for 600bucks! I don't see that happening with these new hybrid sports cars

    • @davidbowser
      @davidbowser 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Give it time. This is BMWs first hybrid sports car. Once the market starts to see some more options, things will adjust.
      Body weight - They could do this to an M3 or M4, but it would cost at least US$10k-20k more due to materials and process increases. The i8 costs around US$135k, which is about US$70k more than an M3.
      Two things to understand about modding engines: 1. The ICE has been in assembly line cars for about 100 years, and modding car engines didn't become really popular until the 1950s, after it became affordable for average folks to buy a car. 2. There are still gears and mechanical parts in Hybrid engines and electronics and computer modding started to become more popular in the late 1990s when PC prices started to get very cheap. It might take another 20 years, but modding hybrids or electrics will certainly happen.
