Thank you so much Spa Guy for visiting with him and hearing him talk about Elvis. This is my grandfather, and I remember hearing all these stories during my childhood summers with him and my grandmother. I know it meant a lot to my Grand Tommy and Granny D for yall to come and hear him talk about his time with Elvis.
Great video. I'm so thankful that you captured Tommy's story. This area has such a rich musical history. I feel honored to live here and am thankful my time at WLAY.
This is great! I live in this area, and Tommy is my uncle's best friend. My dad went to the shows at the Sheffield Community Center. Thanks for spotlighting Tommy!!
Such an important person in the Elvis Story yet hasn't received the recognition they deserve and such a nice person. At least his participation will be forever in History.
Well what can i say. This amazing story has come into the Elvis world forever now.and what a story So glad you found him. He was so happy to tell you about his time with Elvis and be recognised for it. Lovely gentlemen. So glad you found him. We need to know as much as possible from that generation who knew Elvis or spent time with Elvis .Thanks Billy so much for this video enjoy it so much. Can't wait for the next few. Specially the lady getting buried in her fur coat Elvis bought her. Must have been special memories for her. Thanks again Billy and Tray .
This video deserves an award!!! This is the best video you've made in my humble opinion. Interesting stuff from my hometown. I know much about the rich music history in our area, and I never knew this one. You let that man relive a memory that only he can tell.Thank you, sir!! Excellent job!!!
Wow this is just beyond words, and the joy on Tommy's face recalling all those wonderful memories of Elvis is priceless.Huge Thanks Spa Guy and Trey your research and time and work in these videos is very much appreciated Big Greetings from Australia 💯👍
Billy I don't know what to say through my tears, but thankyou for making this man so happy and for finding this Elvis history. And Sir thankyou for being so nice and giving to Elvis.
Wow!! This was crazy. Know one ever even knew that this man did record this . He was crying because he was so happy you acknowledge him!!! You and Trey are awesome
That's awesome he looks just like my daddy did in his later days my dad had Elvis stories too he was in Germany when Elvis was and used to see him at various places around the base
Great history digging SG & GTWT. What a nice man.. Most people especially in current times,,,would tell you to get lost if you asked them to talk on spur of the moment.. Thank You to Mr VanSandt. You got to keep your noise to the ground,,,and you find history nuggets like this. Got a chuckle. You said about "Elvis cussing like a sailor", in front of the girls.. Our mother never said two words in a ,months time,,,but that was one of her sayings,,,when we were little rats at home. "That man cusses like a sailor",,,,,she would say.
All your videos are great, but this one was a little extra special. My father passed 4 years ago and suffered a stroke 7 years before his death that had left him much like Mr. Tommy. He obviously has some physical & speech challenges, but that man's mind was still sharp, and his memory, what can you say except, WOW! What an interesting life he has lived thus far and to be such an important part of music history. Billy thank you so much for what you do and kudos to you and your team on this one. God Bless! Wow, thank you super sluths, Mr. Spa Guy and Mr. Trey. You both are the best at Elvis history period. Thanks for finding Mr. Tommy Van Sandt before him and his history with Elvis was gone. Hiya Shug! That recording that Mr. VanSandt made at his dad's studio DOES IN FACT have both Scotty and Bill playing on it, along with someone playing a non pedal steel guitar... Probably the late, great Jimmy Day... I know that he was the staff steel player on the Louisiana Hayride and I'm pretty sure that he did a few tours with Elvis and the boys, circa '54-'55.... You and Trey absolutely made Mr. VanSandt's day!
Spa Guy, it has been awhile seeing one of your videos on TH-cam. I was really glad to see this one, got emotional hearing you talk with Tommy Van Sandt's, but happy emotionally. He recorded Elvis, he just 16 years old, and Elvis just 19 years old! I love that Elvis chose that song, and how that voice of his sang out then! Oh, if Mr. Sandt's had that record, and the one Elvis brought to him, GOLD! It is like he said, then he did not know how big Elvis would become, and thought just be another country singer. If I remember right, he said three times Elvis was a nice guy, and he meant it. I was surprised Elvis got a beer with his hamburger, but alcohol was not Elvis' problem (food, sex, and prescription drugs). I do know Elvis cursed when in the studio recording, and mostly guys there. He knew when to curse, when not to curse, and being respectful (or his Mama would have been after him, ha). I am really glad you got to interview Mr. Sandt's, you apologized several times for dropping in, but think he glad you did, and he part of Elvis music history (both very young)! I wish he and Elvis could have seen each other again (after those 3 times), and talk about those times. This was very interesting to listen to, and Mr. Sandt's still living to tell himself! The many that had/have musical history with Elvis Presley, and wonderful to hear each time. A shout out to you, when you are talking with someone about Elvis, the factual information you know. ❤From A Nashville Girl❤
Wow this amazing history and I'm so glad you found him to get his story out. He should be the 2nd name mentioned behind Sam Phillips when it comes to Early Elvis. This was even before Elvis met Col Parker wasn't it? You guys made his day by recognizing him and I think that is so awesome. I'm gonna share this with everyone I know that loves music history.
Great job boys! I like this stuff because I own a studio and live to hear this history. Del Shannon was my grandfathers best friend and my grandpa played lead guitar for Del before he hit. We stayed close with Del until his death and were still extremely to the Shannon/Westover family. I started a channel called the Del Shannon archives and I’d eventually like to do videos like this. It’s so important to keep these memories alive before the original people pass and then the 1st hand accounts are gone and relying on families limited family. Thanks again!
Gotta catch these people and their stories while they are still with us. I ask my mom again recently about her Elvis concert experience's. I could have went to a Asheville concert, but gave ticket to my baby sister. i was 8 -9? thought Elvis would come back several times but he didn't 😢 i saw a video i think Trey made of the motel Elvis stayed. I always thought he'd stayed a the Gove park or the fancy hotel in middle of town. In the late 80s early 90s i stayed in that motel several times. Bar hopping we'd stay in town not drive drunk. To think i might have stayed in same room.
@@SpaGuy id love to see interviews. I've told several people about the motel. Must have been top secret because everyone thought he was at the Grove Park. That motel has outside doors I don't know how they did it? because that place would have been surrounded with women like my mother ,and fathers cousin. Both have said they would have left everything to be with Elvis 😊 im talking Christians, god fearing women. Their husbands weren't jealous they would have understood 😂 I'm not joking. Elvis was the man!!!
The entire hotel was rented for Elvis and the whole group musicians and all.. Elvis even shot a tv while he was there and wrote. a personal check to pay for the TV.. I will put that video out one day soon.. I have had the interview for a few years now and need to get one more interview before completing it..
Great Billy, Trey, and most of all, Tommy. Imagine, the same year you get your drivers license, rock and roll starts and at 16 you record and hang out with Elvis.......too much.....much too much......lol.
This was just amazing! I really enjoyed hearing Tommy’s story! Thank you so much for all you do to bring these Elvis puzzle pieces to us! I live in NJ and just recently found out about a record store in Cliffside Park, NJ that Elvis stopped into in 1956 to buy a record player he saw in their window. The daughter was working there and still owns the store. It is the oldest record store in the tri-state area. Maybe an idea for a future story if you’re up this way.
Amazing video thank you Spa Guy and Trey and I saw also another man step in your car. But why would you leave your car running by the way?, that's so bad for the environment! Back then car's had no airconditioning let's not forget about that fact. But that aside thank you for giving a guy a great day and also his name full on this video, giving him the acknowledgement he deserves. But driver license at 16, you can't get it in Holland when your that age, you have to be at least 18 years old. I also loved the fact that he told Elvis drank beer just like a normal guy LOL😅 Later on he hardly drank alcohol, maybe it was because of his mama or that it's dangerous to mix alcohol with pills. But anyway you made this man feel like a young man again. How great is that❤
I always leave my vehicle running with the dash cam running in case we get run off.. In this case we were welcomed in and it was so fun I forgot my truck was running..
Ok your video with Bob Joyce… which you turned comments off on.. you failed to ask if he ever was Elvis he is not Elvis now and legally changed his name so he is being honest and True with he is not Elvis because he isn’t anymore. But he was before not that it really matters. He had the same scares hair line teeth laugh and many other things that are the Exact same as Elvis. Just as Saul turned into Paul and Simon into Peter Elvis is Bob. So the old is dead and gone but reborn in Christ.
I have found a lot of information on her and and working to find all of it.. She did in fact pass in Memphis by hitting a bridge and when I reveal where it will blow your mind!!
What a nice and lovley man. God Bless Him.
Thank you Mr.Van Sandt for sharing your story, God bless you. Great work Billy and Trey amazing to hear!!
It’s this type of history that would be lost and never known if it wasn’t for your work! Thank You

A lot of commercials, but that’s ok. It was worth it. Really appreciate you, SpaGuy, for making this video.
Amazing. Elvis must have really liked Tommy’s show to make the trip himself even though he just barely had gas money.
