  • FLYSURFER Kiteboarding designer Armin Harich walks us through the long and short Mixer Test of our SOUL closed-cell foilkite. With this technique you have the option to pimp your SOUL for maximum performance without any tools.
    If you know how to perform the short Mixer Test, it is simple. The long Mixer Test just includes the complete bridle in the measurement to make it more accurate, so you can compensate for shrink/stretch of the lines over time.

    I've had perfectly tuned long mixer with the kite frontstalling a lot. Had to reduce B and C to get it more stable, and long mixer looks out of tune...

    Thanks for these fantastic tips. My Soul 2 6m has been virtually unused from new because the back-stall has been huge in nearly all winds. I have just measured the A to C at about 1.3cm approximately on both sides using the long and short tests. I will readjust and hopefully get some use out of the kite. I'm not sure why it wasn't perfect out of the factory though. I'd say the kite has now had about five hours water time.

    Is it worth checking symmetry on all other bridle connections ? Also if short mixer is fine but long mixer is out can you just pull/stretch the shorter bridles ? My thinking is if you adjust mixer to make long test work will this not mess up the short mixer test ?

    I've heard there is a way to tune or change the bridal on the Soul in order to make it better for racing. Is there a tuning guide or instruction manual for this?

    • @FlysurferKites
      @FlysurferKites  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Ryan, no there is not such a tuning or change of bridal. Just do the short mixer check (or long one if you want it 100% precise) and your SOUL kite will perform with maximum performance as it should be.

    In three seasons, my Z-main lines shrank about 10cm, and one side shrank more than the other side. After replacing them and doing the long mixer test (trying to make all four lines equal), the wingtip on one side keeps folding in and the leading edge appears not be be cutting into the wind nicely. Can you tell from this description how I could fix this problem?

    • @ArminHarich
      @ArminHarich 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Difficult. I never heard and think it almost impossible to let the Z-Main shrink for 10cm especially in 3 Sessions. Please send me some pictures or videos from the Z-Main compared to A-Main or a scale, Mixer, ... at my surname@flysurfer.de.
      I will try to help you

    The Long Mixer test is the more accurate thing. At the SOUL make a long mixer test, to be more accurate.

    I adjusted lines with long mixer test, but short mixer is not good after that. Is it ok?
    On the left wing of Soul 2, 10m, A and Z different with long mixer test. Z is 1cm shorter.
    The right wing, with long mixer test, Z is shorter than A in 3cm. What should I do in such situation?
    I adjusted B and C to the level of A on both wings of the kite.

    • @FlysurferKites
      @FlysurferKites  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      please check the new long mixer video on our youtube page. You calibrate A and Z first and then measure from there. Z will always shrink over time, when that line gets 5 or more cm shorter, its time to exchange them for new Z mains.

    My B C and Z are roughly equal but A is maybe 5 cm too long. It appears that I cannot shorten A or add length to Z, so now I have lengthened B and C to match A, but Z is too short. Thoughts? Thanks for your time

      Please check the Video again. You make A and Z at same length at the top end towards bridle/kite. No problem, if A and Z is 5cm difference at lower end!! You can adjust that 5cm with the Flyinglines.

      @@ArminHarich Thank you Armin, just one last question: how to know if A and Z are equal length, if they change when you move them around. What’s the procedure for measuring them to be equal? I mean I understand for the long mixer test you move A and Z around untill they are equal, so you can line up main B and main C properly, but if you only want to measure A and Z how to know if they are correct when they change length when you move them around

      I would really love to have a play with this app. I think it would help a lot in understanding how the mixer works. If you can't host it on Facebook, could you put it on your website? Or even just provide a download link so we can run it locally?

    Hey guys, how sensitive is the soul to different y split positions on the bar? I am using an older Frankenstein bar and the split is prob 6m up from the bar. Is this fine for 8m and 12m soul on 16m lines?

    • @FlysurferKites
      @FlysurferKites  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey mwdnasa, the soul is not designed to be used with a bar with a Y in the frontlines. It could workbut te Y is only 10m from the bridle, which in our vision is too short.

    • @ArminHarich
      @ArminHarich 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      For the smaller size / WIngspann it is less a difference.
      But it is also important, that the safety is working. It need to flag out the kite more than half of the wingspan. Otherwise, you can break your kite.

      When you bring A and Z at the same level as described first and than measure B and C and trimm then, your problem will be fixed. In that case, C is actually 2.5cm to long and B 1.25cm too long. With that method you will shorten C for 2.5cm and B for 1.25cm.
